'Physical' tops sexiest songs list testing captions When you think of sexy songs, do you think of Mick Jagger's swagger? Marvin Gaye's croon? Al Green's yearnings? How about Olivia Newton-John's "Physical"? Well, "Physical" was No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 pop chart for 10 weeks back in 1981 - along with several more weeks in high-ranking positions - and, as such, it ranks as the sexiest song of all time on a new list Billboard has released just in time for Valentine's Day.

Super Bowl most-watched show ever testing captions Move over, "M*A*S*H" finale. You've finally been surpassed. According to Nielsen ratings estimates published in Hollywood trade publications, Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV - in which the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 - now holds the record for viewership. The event was watched by 106.5 million viewers, slightly more than the famed 1983 "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen" conclusion to "M*A*S*H," which was watched by 105.97 million. Yes, the usual caveats apply. The United States is a more populous nation than it was 27 years ago, and thus there are more TV viewers. But there are also more TV outlets - the fabled 500-plus channels - which means the Super Bowl crushed a lot more competitors than "M*A*S*H" (or the "Dallas" "Who Shot J.R." episode or the end of "Roots") did.

'Avatar' is No. 1 movie of all time testing captions It was only a matter of time - 47 days, to be precise. According to the box office tally site Boxofficemojo.com, "Avatar" is now the highest-grossing movie of all time domestically. The James Cameron film's business now stands at $601.1 million, ahead of the $600.8 million Cameron's "Titanic" did back in 1997-98. Moreover, "Titanic" took 252 days to top out; "Avatar," which has been the biggest movie in the country since its mid-December release, is still No. 1 and shows little sign of flagging (and those nine Oscar nominations won't hurt).

'Calvin and Hobbes' creator: No regretsOn December 31, 1995, the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes" ended. Comics fans have been in mourning ever since. But Bill Watterson, who created the strip, "never regretted stopping," he told his hometown Cleveland Plain Dealer in a rare interview that appeared Monday. "It's always better to leave the party early," he told the paper's John Campanelli. "If I had rolled along with the strip's popularity and repeated myself for another five, 10 or 20 years, the people now 'grieving' for 'Calvin and Hobbes' would be wishing me dead and cursing newspapers for running tedious, ancient strips like mine instead of acquiring fresher, livelier talent. And I'd be agreeing with them."

Most influential movie soundtracks selectedIt's hard to think of certain movies without their soundtracks. "Saturday Night Fever's" John Travolta pounding the pavement to "Stayin' Alive." Janet Leigh getting slashed in the shower to those terrifying strings in "Psycho." Dustin Hoffman looking blank as Simon & Garfunkel plays in "The Graduate." As a way of celebrating the music that makes the movies, Turner Classic Movies (like CNN, a division of Time Warner) has put together a list of the 15 most influential movie soundtracks.

Scorpions announce breakup testing captions The Scorpions, the German metal band whose biggest hits include "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "Wind of Change," will no longer be stinging. The band, which has been together in one combination or another for more than 40 years, announced Sunday it will be breaking up. They're in no rush to go, however: besides a new album, "Sting in the Tail," due out in March, the band is embarking on a three-year world tour. "We want to end the Scorpions' extraordinary career on a high note," the band said in a message on its Web site. "We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we’ve always had since the beginning. ... We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years." |
