'Blacklist' vs. 'Hostages': Fall TV face-offOn Monday, the fall TV season began in earnest. CBS premiered two new shows - a comedy, "Mom," and a drama from Jerry Bruckheimer, "Hostages" - while NBC presented its James Spader-led pilot, "The Blacklist." "Mom," a new Chuck Lorre sitcom starring Anna Faris as a recovering alcoholic and single mother living in Napa Valley, is so far looking pretty promising. (It's Anna Faris and Allison Janney, which is enough of a win for us.) But the showdown between "Hostages" and "The Blacklist" is trickier. 'Dexter': About that series finale ...If you have loved ones who are "Dexter" fans, you might want to give them some breathing room for the next 12 to 48 hours while they recover from a horrible series finale. While there isn't really a "right" way to end a show - you can't please everyone, after all - "Dexter" fans would argue that there is now an explicitly wrong way to end a series. (If you haven't watched the final episode and care about spoilers, stop reading now.) 'Breaking Bad': The final long haulAs "Breaking Bad" fans look forward to the final two episodes of the series, they should also re-program their DVRs. Both the September 22 episode, "Granite State," and the September 29 episode, "Felina," will run longer than 60 minutes. "Breaking Bad" writer/producer Peter Gould tweeted Wednesday that he "checked and its official: #BreakingBad eps are 75 minutes each w/commercials. Set your DVRS accordingly." ABC cutting 'DWTS' to one night in fall scheduleABC is bringing in some big guns to shake up its 2013-14 schedule, revealing a lineup that the network said reflects its "innovation and stability." As expected, ABC picked up Joss Whedon's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and the spinoff "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland." "S.H.I.E.L.D." will air on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET, launching a night of four new series, while "Wonderland" has the daunting task of battling "The X Factor" and "The Big Bang Theory" on Thursday nights at 8pm. ‘American Horror Story’: What can we expect this season? If the latest “American Horror Story” preview is any clue, its new season should be killer. The first five minutes of Wednesday’s season premiere were recently released online, and it looks like the FX drama’s second installment, set in an asylum for the criminally insane, is full of killers, nymphomaniacs, psychopaths and Zachary Quinto in a skinny tie. Seth MacFarlane, Frank Ocean headed for 'SNL'"Saturday Night Live" is starting off strong with its 38th (38th!) season this fall. NBC announced Wednesday that the late night sketch comedy show will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane, and will have a debut performance from critic-and-fan darling Frank Ocean, on its season premiere September 15. |
