Overheard: Has 'Idol' jumped the shark with new judges?This isn't the first time "American Idol" has thrown us for a loop with a judges' announcement, but the latest panel is being received by some fans as a dealbreaker. After plenty of speculation, Fox revealed that the new lineup for the 12th season will include, in addition to previously announced judge Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. We believe former judge Jennifer Lopez said it best when she told Katie Couric Friday: "That's an eclectic group."

Randy Jackson and 'Idol' - what's the deal?We've been light on the never-ending "American Idol" rumors this week, so here's a freshly spun one to tide everyone over: Randy Jackson is said to be out as a judge on "American Idol," according to TMZ. The speculation of what's to come for Jackson has been persistent since Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez sung their swan songs earlier this summer, but it's intensified as a growing list of possible "Idol" judges has bounced around the Web. When Mariah Carey was confirmed as the newest "Idol" judge, some loose-lipped sources starting whispering to a few outlets that Jackson would possibly transition from being a judge to being a mentor. TMZ says that it's officially the case, but (still) no word from Fox.

Overheard: Alanis Morissette open to 'Idol'At this point, we wouldn't be shocked if "American Idol" has reached out to you, dear reader, to judge the next season's competition. This list of "maybes" just keeps growing longer. One day it's Nick Jonas, then it's Nicki Minaj, then it's Brad Paisley or Keith Urban or Kanye West. And now, Alanis Morissette tells us that she, too, has had a conversation about sitting at that table.

Nicki Minaj, maybe 'Idol' judge, unveils new fragranceWhile "American Idol" fans are still waiting to see what will become of those Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams rumors, on Monday came yet another name to add to the "potential new 'Idol' judge" list: Nicki Minaj. The fiery rapper is said to be in talks for a judging position on Fox's singing competition, although neither the network nor Minaj's reps had a comment on the reports.

Nick Jonas: Yes, I'm being considered for 'Idol'For once, one of the rumored "American Idol" judge contenders is 'fessing up: Nick Jonas has confirmed that he is one of the stars being considered to judge the Fox singing competition. "The rumors are true," he posted Saturday. "I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol, and it would be a dream come true if it happens."
