'24' star pulls name from Emmy contention

Don’t look for Cherry Jones to win an Emmy this year.

The actress, who played the president on “24,” has withdrawn her name from possible nominees, according to The Advocate. Jones has not given any indication as to why she is declining to enter the race.

Jones snagged the award last year. She is not the first actress to refuse to throw her hat in the ring.  In 2008, actress Katherine Heigl announced she was dropping out of the race because she didn’t feel the material she was given to work with on “Grey’s Anatomy” warranted a nomination.

TV Recap: '24' no more

[Editor's Note: You know the drill by now. If you haven't seen the finale of "24," DON'T READ ANY FURTHER.]

Well Bauerites, today is the first day of the rest of our TV-watching lives. Our beloved "24" is no more. For those of us who have it recorded, "24" shall live a bit longer in the purgatorial realm of our DVRs. For the rest of us who have seen the final episode, it's all over. (Click here to read more on my "Life AFTER '24'")

Ahead of the show, I decided to "speak Bauer" all day. Time flew by as I threw in line after line of Jack's best quotes... although I did have a bit of trouble finding the right context to say, "The only reason you're still conscious is because I don't want to carry you."

(By the way, schematics of the vending machines, my laptop, and the conference room speakerphone were all sent to my PDA, and by my count, I was "10 minutes out" about three times.)

Life after '24'...

When it comes to TV, I'm easy going. Color me a casual viewer of a few shows I kind of like, and a devout fan of a few I really love. So, when the news came that my all-time favorite show, "24," was ending, I began to fathom the harsh reality of knowing that the show I loved for eight seasons will be no more. At some point, I'll be "Bauer-less", but where will I go? What will I watch now?

I'm a big fan of shows like HBO's "Entourage", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Eastbound and Down," but they're all between seasons at the moment and otherwise unavailable. I religiously watch HBO dramas "Treme" and "The Pacific," but one is a spring runner, and the other is the dreaded "mini-series"... egad.

After careful consideration, I've decided I need a break from the drama. Jack Bauer has some big shoes to fill, and it requires more time. I'm in a transitional stage, and I think its going to be comedy for a while.

TV Recap: One down, one to go on '24'

Spoiler alert! You know the drill... if you haven't seen this week's episode of "24," don't read this post.

"24": Day 8 - 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Wow! Welcome back Bauerites. I think its beginning to hit me. Slowly, but surely, it's sinking in. The end is indeed near and for every episode that goes by, it means we are closer to the conclusion of our beloved "24." One down, one to go.

After last week's thrilling episode, I was really dialed in to the previews for this week's show. Then again, as that high-speed thrill adventure ended, I also knew Jack's revenge-soaked campaign would continue in full force, and President Logan was in the on-deck circle.

As characters go, the depth of my dislike for President Logan could best be described as "the size of Nebraska." Logan is highly unlikable, and as we discussed in past blogs, Gregory Itzin is doing an outstanding job in this role. The proof? Itzin racks up solid performances in scene after scene with his underhanded, smarmy badness. Its been a delight to watch his (A) slimy brand of persuasion, and (B) the speedy arrival of his impending doom. More on that later. FULL POST

'24' recap: Revenge best served Bauer-style

Editor's Note: You know the drill - if you haven't watched this week's episode of "24," don't read any further!

"24": Day 8 - 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Bauerites, the bell tolls. Only 3 hours remain, and another solid episode of "24" is in the books.

It's been said that "revenge is a dish best served cold." Well, Jack Bauer's brand of revenge is being served in sub-zero temperatures, and the forecast looks downright frosty. After Renee was murdered, we knew Jack was in a bad place, but last night's episode provided GPS navigation to the exact address of his state of mind.

In this final season of "24," the show has hit its usual stride with blistering action and sadistic brutality that makes us cringe at every turn. There are also a few stretches along the way where we focus on the day's fast-paced circumstances and keep track of the story lines. I thought this latest episode was an outstanding example of all of the above. FULL POST

'24' recap: Ding dong, the witch is dead!

"24": Day 8 - 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Today is a wonderfully beautiful, fantastically awesome day. Why you ask? Well, let me be the first to tell you. Today is wonderfully beautiful and fantastically awesome because after last night's episode of "24," Dana Walsh officially sleeps with the fishes.

If you saw the episode, you already know Dana didn't die a death exactly similar to Luca Brasi from "The Godfather," but as far as I'm concerned, that doesn't matter one bit. Whether you put it in haiku, spoken word or interpretive dance... ding dong, the witch is dead!

Right about the time she asked Jack her last question ("Jack, tell me what I can do?"), Bauerites far and near were gearing up for what we've been waiting for - the end of Dana Walsh. FULL POST
