Mel Gibson joins cast of 'Hangover 2'It looks like Mel Gibson's headed for a "Hangover." The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the 54-year-old actor will join Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha in the upcoming film, "The Hangover 2." In this sequel to the Sin City-set comedy, the rowdy gang of guys makes their way to Bangkok, where they encounter a tattoo artist played by Gibson. Though much of the story line is hush-hush, a source tells the Hollywood Reporter Gibson's cameo is "pivotal" to the plot, which involved one character getting inked during a night of partying. Jodie Foster defends Mel GibsonWhether or not Hollywood turns its back on Mel Gibson, he'll always have Jodie Foster in his corner. Foster, who directed and co-stars with Gibson in the upcoming dramedy "The Beaver," tells October's More magazine she is standing by the troubled actor throughout his ongoing battle with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. Foster, 47, says that she and Gibson – who portrays a man who rescues himself from depression by wearing and speaking through a beaver puppet in the film - immediately clicked when they first teamed up for the 1994 Western "Maverick." The 54-year-old star was the "easiest, nicest person I've ever worked with," she explains. "The second I met him, I said, 'I will love this man for the rest of my life.'" Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Defending Mel GibsonJust when the “Showbiz Tonight” staff thought we'd heard all the tapes with the alleged voice of Mel Gibson absolutely tearing into the mother of his love child, Oksana Grigorieva, out pops a third. CNN has not independently confirmed the authenticity of the recordings. In the tapes we’ve heard so far, the breathless man purported to be Gibson screams with piercing rage and seems to threaten Grigrorieva saying, “I'll put you in the f*****g rose garden, you c***!” He also launches into a rant where he drops the n-word as well as statements degrading to women. Then in the third audio released today, the male voice uses the term “w******s” in an argument over an employee who takes care of a child. If you were sitting in our morning meeting today, you’d be hard-pressed to find a staffer who would defend Gibson's alleged actions and words in those tapes, but today, there are actually people who say Gibson's not entirely at fault (if it proves to be his voice). Whoopi: Gibson's a bonehead, not a racistAlthough some say that Mel Gibson is losing his support system since those rant-filled tapes leaked which are alleged to be him talking to his now ex-girlfriend, it looks like the actor and director still has a friend in Whoopi Goldberg. “I don’t like what he did here but I know Mel, and I know that he’s not a racist,” Goldberg said on “The View” Monday. “I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he’s being a bonehead, but I can’t sit and say that he’s a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids,” Goldberg went on. Mel Gibson being investigated for domestic violenceThe Malibu Hills police department has opened an investigation into the alleged domestic violence dispute between Mel Gibson and his former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, CNN has confirmed. The 54-year-old actor has been caught in a custody dispute with his former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, over the couple's 8-month-old daughter. Toward the end of June, Grigorieva, 40, filed a restraining order against Gibson alleging that the actor and director struck her in the face, People reported. Police said they are still in the process of gathering information surrounding Grigorieva’s allegations, and because the investigation is in preliminary stages, there isn’t more information available. CNN has reached out to both Gibson and Grigorieva's reps for comment. Mel Gibson's Viking adventureBravehearted Scots? Check. Mayan warriors? Been there, done that. What else have you got for us, Mel Gibson? Turns out the answer is... Vikings. I caught up with him last night at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood for the premiere of his new crime drama, "Edge of Darkness," and he confirmed he's working on a new Viking saga. And no, it won't be centered on Brett Favre and whether or not he's going to retire. "It's going to be good. I'm writing it with Bill Monahan ("The Departed") and he's a good writer," he says. "And I get some pretty good ideas sometimes," he adds with a smile, "It's going to be Viking with a capital 'V.' I've never seen a good Viking movie, have you?" Off the top of my head, I couldn't think of one. So is this thing going to be like "Braveheart" with boats? "No, it will be pretty good, it's different. I cracked [the story]. I'll give you that in about, you might see that in 18 months, two years. It's a long gestation period." Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly set to play the lead. Let the pillaging begin! |
