Plans halted for Madonna's Malawi schoolIt looks like Madonna’s plan to build a $15 million school for approximately 400 girls in Malawi won’t come to fruition, according to the New York Times. The superstar co-founded the Raising Malawi charity through which the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls was to be built, but the organization has said that plans for the project have been discontinued and the organization’s board of directors replaced by a “caretaker board” that includes Madonna and her manager. Update, 3/28 1:27 p.m.: A statement from Madonna's rep provides clarification that "The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls is a Malawi based organization which is independent from Raising Malawi Inc.. ," and that "the former is the organization which has made the changes. RM Inc. has been a donor to the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls but has discontinued funding because of concerns related to how funds were spent."

In a prior life, Britney Spears would've been Audrey HepburnWith her new album, "Femme Fatale," dropping March 29, Britney Spears' name is currently on everyone's lips. But in a new interview, she's turning the tables and speaking out about other stars. Spears, a longtime Madonna fan, tells the latest issue of Out magazine that she is molding her career after the Material Girl's. "She is an amazing entertainer," says the pop princess, who posed in a barely there leotard that reveals tattoos near her crotch. "Besides Madonna, I also admire Sarah Jessica Parker’s career and her shoe collection."

Madonna gives daughter Lourdes big screen debutFirst she collaborated with her mom on the Material Girl clothing line and now Lourdes Leon is starring in Madonna's new movie. The 14-year-old aspiring entertainer is set to make her big-screen debut in the Madonna-directed film "W.E." According to MTV News, "W.E." chronicles the 1930s romance of King Edward VIII and scandalous American socialite Wallis Simpson, who would go on to become the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The film also follows a modern-day woman, Wally Winthrop, who is fascinated by their love story. Lourdes, whose father is actor/personal trainer Carlos Leon, was spotted wearing a schoolgirl uniform on the movie's set last September, and now Abbie Cornish, who portrays Wally, has the details on the teen's role.

Madonna launches global chain of gymsIf you want a body like Madonna's, where better to get it than a gym created by the “Material Girl” herself? The pop star has teamed with the likes of Mark Mastrov, the mastermind behind 24 Hour Fitness, to open fitness centers in 10 locations worldwide, according to a statement. These ultra-luxe gyms will be found in Argentina, Brazil, Russia and throughout Asia and Europe. "Madonna's world tours have taken us to many of our favorite cities around the world. We are looking forward to opening Hard Candy Fitness with NEV in many of these same places," said Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary.

Britney Spears: I'm a big fan of Lady GagaBritney Spears is not one to hold a grudge. Lady Gaga may have dethroned her as the Queen of Twitter, but the pop princess doesn't seem to be bothered by it. In fact, she says she'd happily work with Gaga in the future. "I'm a big fan of hers," Spears, 28, tells the new issue of the U.K.'s Pop magazine, which features a Japanese anime-inspired photo shoot of the "Womanizer" singer. The former Mouseketeer adds that she wouldn't rule out teaming up with Gaga, 24, for a track or two. "Anything's possible!" The collaboration could happen soon. Spears is currently working on a new album, and Gaga - who, like Spears, served as the subject of an entire "Glee" episode - would likely be game: She already worked with another pop diva, Beyonce, on the single "Telephone" earlier this year.

Madonna to Lourdes: Watch those hemlines!Madonna has never been shy about showing a little skin, but she’s got a different set of rules for her daughter Lourdes. “Sometimes she puts something on, and I'll be like, ‘My God, that looks amazing!’ And then I'll go, ‘Oh my god, that's my 13-year-old daughter,’” she told Teen Vogue. While Lourdes is allowed to wear makeup to special events, “there's always a little bit of a discussion about how short the skirt is... or is there some cleavage showing,” explained Madonna, 51. “And I always say to her, do you want everybody to be staring at your breasts, or do you want people to talk to you?” |
