'American Idol' returns: What's the verdict?Wednesday night marked the return of "American Idol" with brand new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. We never imagined we could miss Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler so much. For the first night, we were treated to auditions from New York City, where contestants rolled through offering up what was supposed to be their best for a shot at a golden ticket to Hollywood. As you can imagine, there was much tension and disappointment. Oh, not so much from the singers, but from some of us viewers regarding Mimi and Minaj. Say hello to your new 'Idol' judge ...Mariah Carey is just full of announcements lately. The 43-year-old singer and mom of twins recently revealed on Twitter that she has a new song, called "Triumphant," set to arrive in early August, and she's also confirmed that she'll be a new judge on "American Idol." Mariah Carey's new manager: Randy Jackson?According to the Hollywood Reporter, Randy Jackson is very close to signing a deal that would have him managing Mariah Carey’s career. Apparently Mimi and the “American Idol” judge go way back. Jackson was the vice president of A&R for Columbia Records during the 1990s, where Carey was signed from 1988 to 2001. Plus, Randy has a long history of working closely with Mariah. He played bass for her in the studio and on the road, served as her musical director, appeared on her records and has co-written and produced tracks for the diva.
