MJ in 3D, and other news to note

Today's talk you might have missed ...

  • In case his holographic form wasn't enough, now Michael Jackson is going to be in 3-D - at least the "Thriller" version of the singer. Director John Landis told the New York Daily News that he's revamped the 14-minute video from 1983. “It is going to reappear in a highly polished and three-dimensional way that is very exciting on the big screen," he said. It's due for release next year in venues yet to be determined. (New York Daily News)
  • Bet you think of cartoon legends Tom and Jerry as cuddly scamps, huh? Well, they weren't always so nice - or politically correct. Not only were the early, more slapsticky cartoons an inspiration for "The Simpsons' " Itchy and Scratchy, the cat-and-mouse pair occasionally indulged in racist stereotypes. Amazon.com, which is streaming some of the early cartoons, attached a warning: "Tom and Jerry shorts may depict some ethnic and racial prejudices that were once commonplace in American society. Such depictions were wrong then and are wrong today." (Huffington Post via BBC)
  • Have you missed "Community" creator Dan Harmon? He's missed you. And in the film "Harmontown," which chronicles Harmon's 2013 tour, he gets close to one audience by crowdsurfing. The film is being released on demand and in selected theaters starting Friday. (EW)
  • Finally, sometimes you just need a rousing speech to get your blood pumping. Despite his often laid-back manner, Matthew McConaughey is just the guy. He gave a mid-practice speech to the University of Texas Longhorns last week. All right, all right, all right! (People)
