'How I Met Your Dad's' casting shakeup

With "How I Met Your Mother" ending on Monday, CBS' spinoff comedy pilot "How I Met Your Dad" is busily trying to whip itself into shape.

After casting indie star Greta Gerwig as the lead character Sally, CBS started filling in some of the characters who play her friends.

Initially, "Smash" alum Krysta Rodriguez was supposed to portray Sally's "sexy and flamboyant" best pal. But according to Entertainment Weekly, Rodriguez departed the pilot project after a table read last week.

Her spot has quickly been filled by Tiya Sircar, who's popped up in "The Internship," "17 Again" and, most recently, in a guest arc on another CBS comedy, "The Crazy Ones."

The premise for "How I Met Your Dad" loosely follows the structure of the long-running "How I Met Your Mother," which stars Josh Radnor as a man recounting how he met his kids' mom through a series of flashback stories about himself and his friends in New York.

With "HIMYD," Gerwig's Sally will be retracing the steps she took to find her future partner. CBS has described the character as "a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life." After breaking up with her husband of less than a year, Sally turns to her friends and family for support, even though they're "often too willing to give 'good' advice that can backfire badly."
