Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr to perform at Grammys, and more news to note

Today's talk you might've missed:

  • The Recording Academy is making up for its lackluster nominees list with a strong lineup of performers for its awards show. The event, coming up on January 26, will now also feature Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as part of a Beatles-centric special set that'll include other acts like the Eurythmics. [HitFix]
  • We kind of love the idea of Johnny Depp as Dr. Strange, as one casting rumor has suggested could happen, but it looks like that gossip might not be based on truth. [Deadline]
  • Tina Fey's Golden Globes joke about Leonardo DiCaprio - that he gets with a lot of supermodels - definitely walked a thin line between spot-on and crass. But it was also, it seems, pretty true: he left the ceremony after winning the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy and made a beeline for the lips of his model girlfriend, Toni Garnn. [GossipCop]
  • We were feeling a little left out that we hadn't had a chance to see Orlando Bloom's "Romeo and Juliet" on Broadway, but now we can try to see it on the big screen. A recording of the production will be available in more than 2,000 movie theaters across the U.S. from February 13-19 (to coincide with Valentine's Day, naturally). [People]
  • The execs behind Showtime, the geniuses that they are - or are at least today - have rightly renewed Lisa Kudrow's "Web Therapy." [NYMag's Vulture]

Seth MacFarlane explains why he killed Brian

When Seth MacFarlane decided it was time to temporarily kill off "Family Guy's" dog, Brian, he was trying to teach a lesson.

"It reminded people this is still a show where anything that can happen despite the fact it’s been on for awhile," MacFarlane explained to TV critics at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour.

With that being the goal, MacFarlane considers the stunt a mission accomplished. But what he didn't expect is for the viewers to teach him a lesson, too.
