Support swells for 'Duck Dynasty' star reinstatement petition

Some "Duck Dynasty fans are flocking to get the show's star reinstated.

E! online is reporting that as of Thursday an online petition for A & E to reinstate Phil Robertson on the hit show was just shy of its goal of gathering 250,000 signatures. Robertson was suspended over controversial remarks he made about gays and black people in a magazine interview, and has stood by his statements.

His family, who costar with him in the reality show about their lives, have rallied around their patriarch, as have those who took Cracker Barrel to task for removing "Duck Dynasty" merchandise from its shelves. The restaurant chain quickly reversed its decision after complaints.

The #IStandWithPhil petition is written in the form of a letter to A & E and states that "Mr. Robertson’s comments in GQ Magazine are simply reflective of a Biblical view of sexuality, marriage, and family – a view that has stood the test of time for thousands of years and continues to be held by the majority of Americans and today’s world as a whole."

The petition asks that the network "immediately reinstate Mr. Robertson to Duck Dynasty, and to formally apologize to him, his family, and the millions of viewers who tune in every week, stand by him, and share his worldview."

Twitter blocked the #IStandWithPhil hashtag after it was deemed as containing spam. The site later apologized and removed the block.

Meanwhile, another of Robertson's most vocal supporters may not have totally known what she was supporting. Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has admitted that she didn't actually read the GQ magazine interview containing the remarks.

Politico reported that when pressed during an appearance on Fox News about the Robertson article, Palin said “I haven’t read the article. I don’t know exactly how he said it.”

Rev. Jesse Jackson has reportedly demanded a meeting with A & E after stating that Robertson's comments about African Americans on the story were "more offensive" than the actions of bus driver who ordered Rosa Parks to move to the back of the bus in 1955. That event was galvanizing to the Civil Rights Movement.
“At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law," Jackson said. "Robertson’s statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was ‘white privilege.’”

Happy Duck is boring, crude and a millionaire because so many people don't have an interesting life and watch this ridiculous reality show. There are so many more great heros in the world to admire, writers, artists, working women, cancer survivors, pro bono lawyers, etc. that these men who kill ducks for a living are definately NOT worthy of one more mention.

Can anyone look at that gross disgusting man and be surprised that he's bigoted, hate mongering bible thumper who would judge others who are not like him? Take it for what it's worth....he's one of millions of intolerant ignoramuses crawling on all fours around this world.

    • no, actually

You're the ignoramus here. It's obvious you have not watched the show for yourself. You're just a parrot, repeating words you heard someone else say. There is no hate in Phil's heart or on the show.

The only people who were enraged by his comments was the media seeking to make a mountain out of a mole hill. He has a right to his opinion and those who do not like who he is or what he stands for can simply switch the show off. If it really matters then more people will stop watching than watches the show. If you are offended by his comments you are the one with the problems not him. He simply spoke his mind. I personally believe you are reading way to much into what he has said and are just to sensitive to the idea that someone may say something that offends you. Get over yourselves and move on.

Good Ole Jesse still trying to be relevant. He went from being MLK's errand BOY to being a self appointed spokesman for our race just because he was close to the true leaders. I am not so thin skinned that I can not take a few negative comments thrown my way by a redneck like Phil R. This political correctness bull is getting in the way of everything in our country these days. Our government can't do it's job because both parties are trying to outdo the other. We have a President and is so worried about the polls that he allowed people to die at our mission in Africa 9/11/12 and has lied to our faces about this healthcare mess. Sorry but I really don't give a damn what someone is supposed to have said to some magazine that I have never read and don't really care to anyway.

So there I was, Christmas day and 10lbs of lower Cascadian ducks breast and no idea how to cook it. So I went to the Duck Dynasty website. There was ONE RECIPE. I would think that with a duck hunting industry so large, the family would have a duck recipe for each and every holiday... I froze the duck breast...

  12. Come on now people

What I find infuriating is the number of people who call Phil a hater even though they have not watched even one episode or read the article for themselves. Free speech is not just for the left.

who cares? does anyone really watch this garbage? Sad day in America with the continued dumbing-down of the people with mindless "reality" shows like this. There is NO Reality when there are cameras rolling folks! Enough already!

People who do not believe as you are not necessarily bigots or racist. Gays wants the right to say they are gay. Everyone wants their agenda to be the legally and politically correct opinion. But, free speech gives us all the right to voice our opinions whether anyone else agrees or not! .... Accept each other, let us all be who we are...what a sad boring world when we all become the same. That's the point.

Why is ok for a black person to joke about whites, but it is racism when a white person jokes about a blackperson. If there was a white music award, that would be considered racism. Also if there was a White Entertainment Television{WET} that would be considered racism also.Jesse if you want equal rights you got to give equal rights. My personal opinion,I am getting sick of old Jess anyway. So I am turning channels every time I see him.

    • Sorry, Frank, but you're mistaken.

Caucasians still hold the edge in racial majority here in the good old U.S. of A., according to the most recent U.S. Census. Experts project that majority will slip sometime in the 2040s. Perhaps you're thinking about your own neighborhood, and projecting that onto the entire country?

I like Phil and believe he has the right to his opinion. He only quoted from the Bible what God had said....that was not his words, but God's words. Jesse Jackson..;why are you sticking your nose in this situation...I never see you come to the aid of a white person being raped, or killed by a black...but you sure can open your mouth when a black is involved in a story, first thing you do is scream prejudice.; that is just B.S.
