Dwayne Johnson is 2013's highest-grossing actor

Dwayne Johnson did not have the highest-grossing movie of the year, but he still has reason to celebrate.

The prolific actor has been named Forbes magazine's highest-grossing star, thanks to the $1.3 billion his films have earned at the box office over the past 12 months.

While Robert Downey Jr. can lay claim to having the No. 1 movie of 2013 - "Iron Man 3" - and being the highest-paid actor in the business, Johnson's been a quiet but visible powerhouse.

Also known as "The Rock," the 41-year-old starred in that other blockbuster May release, "Fast & Furious 6," as well as the not-too-shabby "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." To top it off, he also rolled onto the screen in "Pain and Gain" and the action flick "Snitch."

"Fast & Furious" is the big winner of those four films since, with $788.6 million earned globally, it also helped earn Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker places on the list of top 10 grossing actors of 2013.

With "Iron Man 3" earning $1.2 billion across the globe, of course RDJ isn't far behind Johnson on Forbes' list. With only one credit to his name at the box office this year, Downey Jr. is 2013's second highest-grossing actor.

  2. Just think...

If The Rock won a $157,000 car on The Price Is Right, he would owe a bunch of taxes for it!

They're not talking about the highest paid actor. "Highest-grossing" just means which actor's movies made the highest combined total at the box office.

That said, Johnson is active in charity work. Whether he's active enough for your liking is another matter, but for consistency's sake you should give thatresponse to every news story. :-p

Hey hypocrite, why don't you volunteer YOUR time to a charitable organization instead of wasting it here.

So this would be the best time for him to ask for more money. He was really hilarious in the movie, Be Cool. I liked him in, The Run Down as well.

Highest paid for bad acting. Not bad if you are him no doubt. Sad tho. I know many people who do their job much better, tho not in acting who are lucky to earn $35,000 a year let alone millions. Guess that says a lot about what is truly important in American society. Oh well. Nothing new there sadly.

First off its global numbers so not just American Society and I'm not dishing out $75 in tickets and popcorn to watch the people you know do what ever it is they do for $35,000. People always complain about how much money these actors or athletes make yet we continue to pay to watch them. The guy started off as a wrestler and now is known all over the world. More power to him.

OH MY GOD!!!! WOW!!! People complain about "EVERYTHING" these days!!! Cheese's Rice man! If people want to make more money, the only one holding them back is themselves!!!! No one to blame but yourself. Mr. Johnson worked and works hard for his money. As do ALL actors. If you don't like how much they make then do see any movies. Don't like how much athletes get paid, don't support the team. Everyone's a critic now a days thanks to the internet. How about we make the world better by starting with the person in the mirror.

To those with the "if you don't like it, don't support it" reasoning: well, I don't like it and I don't support it, how about that anomaly? The first and last movie I saw starring The Rock was "Scorpion King". I like the guy as a person, but he's a terrible actor. It's sad to see well-deserving actors (i.e Sir Ian McKellen, Phillip Seymor Hoffman, etc.) not getting the big bucks. These great actors don't play Box Office politics because they are self-respecting actors who choose roles to expand their acting skills, not their wallets. Good for Robert Downey Jr though, because he IS one of those great actors who just happened to land a very profitable franchise.

Wah wah wahhhhh McKellen, Hoffman and others in that category aren't blowing stuff up and drawing in the action crowd, so it is really idiotic to try and compare apples to oranges here. Johnson isn't paid to recite Shakespear, he is paid to keep his muscles oiled and deliver cheesey one-liners. People complained about Stallone and Arnold back in the day for making the money they did, too. Go figure....

Guess you never watched an old John Wayne movie. The guy was a pitiful actor but made the money in the day. Sylvester Stallone another pitiful actor with fists full of dollars.
