Garth Brooks announces a new tour, and more news to note

Today's talk you might've missed:

  • With the approval of his wife and three daughters, Garth Brooks is ready to take the world by ... tour. The country star announced on "Good Morning America" Monday that he has a global trek lined up that'll launch in 2014. [ABC News]
  • Miley Cyrus had a "Wrecking Ball" and Katy Perry had her "Roar," so "Glee's" Lea Michele is trying to up the ante. The singer has a new single on the way called "Cannonball," which you can preview below:

  • Hot "Gossip" that happens to be true: Leighton Meester is set to make her Broadway debut alongside James Franco and Chris O'Dowd in their upcoming "Of Mice and Men" production. [HuffPost]
  • Sarah Palin isn't done with reality TV just yet. When not enjoying the company of the "Duck Dynasty" stars, the political figure is plotting her own return to televised reality with a new series called "Amazing America." If you want to steer clear of Selena Gomez's bad side, don't "F" with her audio.

The 21-year-old singer let the "F"-bomb slip during her performance at the 2013 Jingle Ball in Los Angeles Friday, as she was apparently aggravated by a faulty sound system.

Shirley MacLaine, Billy Joel soak up Kennedy Center Honors

Washington mixed with the world of arts Sunday night at the 36th annual Kennedy Center Honors, which recognizes artists from the stage, screen and radio.

President Barack Obama hosted the five honorees at the White House for a reception before attending the event at the Kennedy Center, which is set to air December 29 on CBS.

The honorees were opera singer Martina Arroyo, actress Shirley MacLaine and musicians Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana and Billy Joel.

As 'SNL' spoofs 'Sound of Music,' Carrie Underwood prays for haters

NBC's "Sound of Music Live!" was begging for a "Saturday Night Live" spoof, and over the weekend the sketch show delivered.

Recruiting two old favorites - Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen - "SNL's" cold open was a "condensed" version of the mainly hate-watched but ratings bonanza that was Thursday's three-hour musical event.
