New 'X-Men' movie slated for 2016

The "Apocalypse" is nigh!

Or the "X-Men" one is, anyway.

On Thursday, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" director Bryan Singer sent fans into a frenzy with this mysterious tweet:

While the phrase "X-Men Apocalypse 2016!" might sound like a bizarre presidential campaign slogan, Singer was actually hinting that the immortal villain/original mutant Apocalypse will come charging into theaters in a mere three years.

There isn't much else to go on other than that, with 20th Century Fox confirming only that "X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated to drop on May 27, 2016. That means you'll have to decide between seeing Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska in "Alice in Wonderland 2," slated to open on the same day, and whomever will wind up in "X-Men: Apocalypse." Which do you think you'll choose?

Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is scheduled to open May 23, 2014.
