Gal Gadot: Getting to know the new Wonder WomanTalk about a breakthrough role. Now that Israeli model/actress Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman movie, she's catapulted from little-known name to one on everyone's lips.
So who is she, exactly? The short answer is Gisele from the "Fast & Furious" franchise - the criminal weapons expert/Mossad agent who's appeared in the last three "Fast" flms. But outside of her association with the Universal franchise, there's a bit more to 28-year-old Gadot than that. Here's what we've dug up: 1. She served in the Israeli military Gadot served with the Israel Defense Forces as a fitness instructor, and "Fast & Furious" director Justin Lin mined some of that experience for Gadot's character, Gisele. "Justin Lin and I knew we were going to work on [three films together], and we wanted her to evolve," Gadot told Forward.com. "I think the main reason was that Justin really liked that I was in the Israeli military, and he wanted to use my knowledge of weapons." 2. She has action star chops As a result, Gadot's movie training is almost exclusively action-oriented, and she's a fan of doing her own stunts. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWTpyFVEjYw&w=450&h=360] Aside from her work with the "Fast" franchise - which began in 2009 with "Fast & Furious" and escalated with 2011's "Fast Five" and 2013's "Fast & Furious 6" - she's appeared in just a few other pictures, including 2010's "Date Night" and "Knight And Day." She's green, but also has plenty of experience playing a badass - which should be perfect for portraying Diana Prince in her big screen debut. 3. She's a former Miss Israel Gadot grew up in Tel Aviv, and prior to going into the military she won the 2004 Miss Israel pageant. That kick-started her modeling career, which has included some work in Maxim. 4. She's married - and a mom Gadot will be balancing parenthood with Snyder's project, which is scheduled to begin principal photography in early 2014 as it heads toward a July 2015 release date. The new Wonder Woman is married to businessman - and owner of The Varsano Hotel in Tel Aviv - Yaron Varsano, with whom she welcomed daughter Alma in 2011. 5. The movie is still untitled, but she's excited anyway Although this film is being called "Batman vs. Superman," it's still technically untitled. As it's a sequel to "Man of Steel," there's speculation that the official title could include that marker. That blockbuster's star, Henry Cavill, will be back in the Batman vs. Superman film as the iconic hero with the mild-mannered alter-ego, and Ben Affleck will (controversially) portray Batman. Even with few details, Gadot is (obviously) thrilled to join the project. "Had to share this with the best fans in the world," she posted on her Facebook page Wednesday. "I can't express how happy and excited I am to be part of this amazing project! Thank you for all your support!" |

As usual most of the posters on this blog are cynics...perhaps the studios know more than the average viewer. In fact, most of these comic book movies tend to do pretty well. Of course there are exceptions, still, most do well. It's the reason they keep making them. Also, perhaps the folks on this blogs and many others are not the target audience. Most of the demographic audience that will go see this movie don't even remember or know who Linda Carter or Chris Reeves are for that matter. Furthermore, when a studio cast an actor for a role, they do so for their potential; what the producers and directors envision. They have time to make over the actor to fit the role as they see it. I'll temper my opinion of this latest cast until I see the movie. I so am looking forward to it. Hugh Jackman wasn't exactly Wolverine ready when they casted him in X-men, now no one can imagine a better actor for the role. In short, he had the characters essence and all the rest was just a matter of work.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA bltch please...
I think she looks just fine.
According to this generation, there were no movies made besides 'Fast and Furious'....and she doesnt look like an Amazon to me...hot...just not an Amazon
What about Adrianne Palicki?
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT ATLEAST MARVEL HIT THE NAILS ON THE HEAD WITH 99.9% OF THE PEOPLE PORTRAYING THOSE CHARACTERS, ID RATHER WATCH THEM ANY WAY, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF "THE MAN OF STEEL"
Enough already.
IT'S REDICULOUS TO HAVE HER AS WONDER WOMAN, SHE IS TOOO...SHORT AND HAS NOOOO...CURVES LIKE WONDER WOMAN SHOULD BE, COMPARED TO LINDA CARTER. MAYBE THEY SHOULD CAST LINDA CARTER AS WONDER WOMAN FOR THE FILM NO MATTER WHAT HER AGE, AT LEAST SHE HAS THE RIGHT BODY FOR THE JOB, WHAT A CROCK
Yes that is a FACT, Sky
I think Gal is a terrific choice. She's attractive, an exotic accent, and feminine yet tough and determined looking. She has time to build up a bit and the costume will round her out nicely.
You naysayers are going to be surprised.
Wonder Woman is not exotic and does not have an accent so, they need to rethink her as the actress for the part, Lady Jaye from GI Joe would have made the perfect Wonder Woman, I heard rumors she was going to be the one for the part, but nooo....they make a BIG mistake and cast the opposite of what she should be. I'll stick with Marvel!!! Way Better Actors, eccept Henry Cavill as Superman
Hey Anne !
HOW DO YOU KNOW that WW doesn't have an accent ? ( She's a Comic Book character !)
She's not American as many people are calling her. She's descended from ancient Greek lineage.
SHE SHOULD HAVE AN ACCENT !
WHY shouldn't she be "Exotic "??? She's from Paradise Island And grew up WITHOUT MEN.
The TV show was fun. I LOVE Lynda Carter… BUT that was a 1970's view of WW.
Speaking of the 1970's… Check out Christopher Reeve as Superman. The guy was as thin as a ballet dancer… not too different from Gal Gadot. With the right hair style…. some workout regimen… some curves discreetly added to the costume… Gal will be a breathtaking Wonder Woman.
Well, I told you fanboys Snyder will find a way to ruin this. Affleck and now this tiny thing as Wonder Woman? She may be able to pack on 20 pounds or so, but can she also grow some hips, boobs and 4 inches in height?
Exactly when did you tell the fanboys that? Prove it.
Sorry.. no muscles = no amazon warrior princess!!! Please stop making me sad Hollywood!
My wonder woman will always be Linda Carter and any new WW has to be physically strong!
You said it!!!! Terrible person for WW
wonder Woman's lasso is bigger than her arms.
Another in a long list of movie-television ideas that shouldn't be made. Sounds like anothe re-make, somewhat like "The Lone Ranger". I suspect the movie will come out and fall flat on it's ass.
Wonder Woman was tall, had strength and had boobs. This woman would make a better Olive Oyl than she will Wonder Woman. Why does Hollywood tend to use 'scrawny' actors to portray superheroes... these actors should look the part for which they were cast.
. . . on everybody's lips, mmmmmmm!
Good looking but seriously Wonder Woman? She is tall with breasts, shapely hips and butt , not thinspired.
Her face is close, tho. (that's about it)
She's got nothing on Linda Carter.
I can't seem to get past the first 2/3 of your comment, Triumph: "She's got nothing on..."
Perhaps I could have phrased that a bit better lol.
No, your phrasing was just fine. I appreciate the visual.
Gal Gadot... wasn't that a Kardasian villian from Star Trek Deep Space 9 ?!?!?
Wait a minute - Kardashians are Star Trek villains? I can see that now.
KATY PERRY = Wonder Woman.
I can't stand her, but she has the "look" for the role. Can't deny it.
All Israeli citizens serve in the military. It's their very noble and patriotic duty. Something that should happen in the U.S. as well.
Id rather have seen a bigger, stronger woman for this part. They picked her for her looks, obviously. Disappointing.
Agreed, she is a wonderful woman, but so tired of the way they cast superheros. It would be nice if they got a fitness girl with some muscle tone and curves .... and certainly the same could go for most of the superhero men. I stopped watching these types of movies because of that
1) not tall enough.
2) not strong enough
3) Hello!!!! Her bewbs are too small!!!
Beggars can't be choosers, loser.
Didn't beg for her, loser. Get it right or don't do it. She could play Wasp woman or tinkerbell, but not WW. Amazons are tall with bodacious gazongas.
Skinny girl is not right for the part at all. Gina Carano we need you!
Kelly brook would have been perfect choice for new wonder woman have you seen her
Not to be harsh, beautiful woman, talented actress, and military/action background...all great.
But she's gonna have to pack on about 30 lbs of muscle to be an Amazon Princess. Hope they get her a good trainer who knows how to bulk some up...maybe get the guy that trained Chris Hemsworth for Thor.
the guy who trained Mark Ruffalo to play Hulk in the Avengers.
Totally on point, agreed!! Wayyyy more athletic and curvy and muscular would be great.
