'Batman vs. Superman' finds its Wonder Woman

As if having Batman and Superman together in a movie wasn't enough, Zack Snyder's upcoming action epic has thrown in another major hero.

Or should we say heroine.

Studio Warner Bros. and DC Comics confirmed on Wednesday that actress and model Gal Gadot has been cast in Snyder's Batman vs. Superman as Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman.

Gadot's portrayal of the Amazonian princess will be a first on the big screen.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” director Snyder said in a statement. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Gadot, 28, most recently appeared in summer blockbuster "Fast & Furious 6," and has previously starred in 2011's "Fast Five," 2010's "Date Night" and "Knight and Day."

The Israeli star will be joining Henry Cavill, who's reprising his role as the Man of Steel, and Ben Affleck, who of course has been cast as Batman, in the anticipated project. Batman vs. Superman, which DC Comics' says is still untitled, is scheduled to start principal photography in early 2014 with a release date of July 17, 2015.

Tall, muscular yet still femine build, beauty.... yes, she is pretty, but henry cavill's girl friend, who also does her own stunts would fit this profile better then her.

What does "He's taking the role seriously" supposed to mean? So he didn't take daredevil seriously? Is that supposed to make a true comic fan forgive him for spewing out a terrible comic interpretation? I'm still not happy with Afflek. I will never get over it.
I have mixed opinions about this choice for Wonder Woman however. I know we'd all like to see Gina in the role theres a couple reasons why they didn't go with her. One, she's not really a good actress. Sure she fits the role physically but she cant act or speak. They dubbed all her lines in that movie she was in. I'm sure, just like in every super hero flick Gal will be assigned a personal trainer and a high protein diet and in a couple months she will fit the role. I think what most of you are worried about is her bosom and seriously folks, that can be easily fixed with the right bra and padding. Any female can attest to this.
I think if Gal "Takes the role seriously" she will do fine. Trust me, Afflek will be the worst part of this movie.

  9. Just an observation

The comments about "Bulking Up" are not meant to mean she needs to turn into a bodybuilder...she just needs a more athletic appearance. She has good background with action in F&F movies and being in the Israeli military, she just needs the physique to go with it. My hope was Gina Carano...but as long as they get a good trainer, like the guy that bulked up Chris Hemsworth for Thor, and add some muscle to her, I'll go with it...but if she's still this thin, its just not gonna work, at least not for me.

I love how so many of these male posters are lambasting this woman for being too thin. These are the same jerks that go on other threads and criticize another woman for being too fat. Make up your mind, idiots. No wonder young girls end up with such a screwed up body image and develop eating disorders.

Margo, I can tell you've never read Wonder Woman comic books. The issue is that she's about to portray a female character that is supposed to be physically strong. People have an image in their head, and she isn't fitting it. The same holds true for men trying to play comic book characters, e.g. Ben Affleck as Batman.

The comments about bulking up are interesting. It would only be to fill the misconception that WW actually needs to be bulked up or ripped. Think about it. A character with super strength, like WW is supposed to have, doesn't need to be bulked up, per se. (Same goes for Superman, btw). Would they really be going out and working out at the gym? Can you just imagine the gym that could actually give Wonder Woman or Superman a real workout? 🙂

I also think she need to put on some muscle; however, D.C. says Wonder Woman is 6'0 and 130lbs. That's pretty thin for a a women that tall.

Not a "car movie" fan so not familiar with her body of work- she will have to be a heck of an actress and athlete if she is to truly be wonder woman. Another 25 pounds put in the propper places will help the look. Linda Carter she isn't.

    • Calcommuter

Tom Cruise barely meets the height requirement to ride a roller coaster, yet he is considered an action star. To be an amazon and taller, there are ramps, boxes or camera angles or cg make the illusion work. Adding size in other areas of her body will make it too fake. Like Affleck's acting.

I'm not so worried about Affleck. Word 'round the scuttlebut is that he's taking the role seriously. People protested in front of Fox studios about the Wolverine/Jackmam choice in 1999. I think Affleck can pull it off. I do agree with your overall statement though that DC has its head up its ass. WonderWoman should be played by a tall, muscular woman. Not a little lady.

She will need to seriously bulk up for the role. Sure she has been in a couple of movies, but she can't act worth a damn. She was picked as eye candy only for her previous roles. Couldn't care less about her ethnic background. Of course the whole premise of the movie and the casting so far is ridiculous. It will bomb badly. Have you looked at DC comic books and wonder woman? Her chest is about 5 times the size of her waist.
My only concern is, how do you introduce such an iconic character as a co-star to a movie that has two larger iconic characters? I think she will be washed out and her role/character won't amount to much. There is not enough time for a good background (like they did in Batman and Superman).
Marvel's avengers did it right – they had all of the characters (minus the two assassins who are small time) have their own movie. Good or bad movie, it gave a background

Wonder Woman is not american. Neither is Superman. Wonder Woman is an Amazon, but she is from Atlantis – not the Amazon. There is no Atlantis (other than the vacation resort) and people don't know where the mythical Atlantis ever was (it's suspected in the Caribbean)

      I agree. I don't want a muscle-bound Wonder Woman but Gal is super-model material, not super-hero.

      To What?

Wonder woman is not from the Amazon region of Brasil, although that's not what you may have been thinking. She is actually from a mythical island called, "Themyscira", the so-called capitol of the Amazon tribe in Greek Mythology. However she was created by an American, was based in America, fought with other American super-heros, so I think that's why some claim her as American. If W W was being portrayed as anything other than Amazonian, that would be inaccurate. Since she is not really American, she should have an exoctic look like Gal Gadot has. Again, just needs to be a little more buffed.

Sorry, but as has been pointed out, Wonder Woman is not "American". She's an Amazon from Themyscira. Which in the comic continuity is it's own sovereign country. In classic mythology(Greek), it was the home of the Amazons, do it's very doubtful it was America.

wonder woman was not american , shes a Greek, an Amazon , and Greeks are tanned, with dark features, such as dark hair, dark eyes, not an "american" and fyi anyone that live in american is just decedent from someone from another country. native Americans what we call "Indians" because Christopher "i kill women and children with small pox blankets" Columbus was looking for India when he landed here then everyone else showed up.

Gina would have been great. She used to date Cavill, so I'm not sure why they didn't think to cast her. They're still friends. Megan Fox or Jennifer Biel were rumored a while back to play WW...either one would be a better fit. She HAS to gain weight otherwise, it makes no sense. It's like casting Kevin Garnet as Hulk or something. This is lame already and they haven't even started filming.
