'Hustle,' Lawrence top NY critics' picks"American Hustle" just got a sweet deal from the New York film critics. The David O. Russell film - about politicians, con artists and law enforcement officials enmeshed in the ABSCAM scandal of the late '70s - won best picture Tuesday from the New York Film Critics Circle.
Also among the winners was Jennifer Lawrence, who stars in the film with Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner. Lawrence won best supporting actress for her performance as a brassy mayor's wife. Her performance in another Russell film, last year's "Silver Linings Playbook," eventually led to an Oscar for best actress. Other winners at the NYFCC included Robert Redford, who earned best actor for his performance in "All Is Lost"; Cate Blanchett, whose work in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" won her best actress; and Steve McQueen, who won best director for "12 Years a Slave." Jared Leto won best supporting actor for his performance in "Dallas Buyers Club." The complete list can be found at http://www.nyfcc.com/ . Though the critics' honors only occasionally mesh with the ultimate winners at the Academy Awards, they offer fodder for awards sites to handicap races - and highlight candidates - as Hollywood heads into the Golden Globes, the Baftas, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Oscars themselves. A NYFCC honor certainly didn't hurt "The Hurt Locker," for example, which won 2009's best picture prize. Tomorrow the National Board of Review will release its annual list of top films, and Sunday the Los Angeles film critics will hand out their picks. The Oscars will finally arrive on March 2, 2014.

Oh for the love of all things holy...can you please wait and SEE the movie before you bash it? I saw both 12 Years A Slave AND American Hustle, and the praise for BOTH is well-deserved. Personally, I found Jennifer Lawrence's performance more compelling than Lupita Nyong'o, but I respect that others may not feel the same way. In my opinion, Nyong'o was outshone by Ejiofor, but Jennifer Lawrence isn't outshone by anyone in the cast–she is equally good, and the entire cast is superb.
She may be overexposed (which isn't her fault; the stupid people running PR for the Hunger Games are squeezing every public appearance they can out of her), but that doesn't mean she's not a talented actress. Have you ever seen Winter's Bone? Or The Poker House, which she made when she was 16? This girl has acting in her blood.
I wonder how long it will take them to realize theres a nip in the pic and change it out.

blanchette won for best actress... lawrence for supporting... so why is this article freaking out over lawrence?
Maybe because the movie she is in own best picture?!
Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress, but too over exposed and does not deserved to win this time around when Lapita clearly gave a gut wrenching performance and NY critics rather kiss up to the "it" girl. Shame on the critics.
Overexposed? She's not exposed enough from where I'm sitting.
