'Dallas Buyers Club': Watch Matthew McConaughey's transformation

We've heard all about Matthew McConaughey's transformation for "Dallas Buyers Club," but there's nothing like seeing it in action.

In the first trailer for the December release, which is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, we're introduced to McConaughey's gambling, "hellraising" cowboy Ron Woodroof, a Texan electrician battling HIV/AIDS.

The story, set in the late '80s, follows Woodroof as he establishes the Dallas Buyers Club, an organization that imported experimental AIDS treatments and then distributed them to those in need.

The nearly three-minute long clip smoothly balances humor, action and drama in a way that indicates this'll likely be a movie to watch this awards season. Based on the true story of Woodroof, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1992, the trailer intones, "sometimes it takes a hustler to change the world."

Jared Leto - who underwent an incredible transformation of his own - and Jennifer Garner also star in "Dallas Buyers Club," which is slated to open December 6.

But McConaughey, 43, will be in theaters well before then: the actor is also appearing alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in Martin Scorsese's November 15 release, "The Wolf of Wall Street." You can check out that trailer below.
