Jason Sudeikis officially exits 'Saturday Night Live'

On CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" Wednesday, Jason Sudeikis confirmed that he's officially leaving "Saturday Night Live."

The 37-year-old comedic actor has hinted that a departure was imminent, and on Wednesday night he told Letterman that he's "definitely done."

Sudeikis has spent 10 years with the sketch comedy show, eight of which have been on camera.

β€œI mean, a person can go as long as they want," he said, pointing out that exec producer Lorne Michaels has been on the job for over three decades.

"But me, yeah, no, I'm definitely done," he said. "I'm going to leave. Yeah, I'm not coming back next fall."

Sudeikis mulled over making an exit last summer, when he told the Los Angeles Times that he wanted to stretch his wings.

"I'd like the opportunity to use creative muscles that ... haven't been asked of me for the first nine years that I've worked there," the entertainer said at the time. "The least of the concerns is anything financial ... It's more having a desire to give more to a place I really believe in. To stay just for the juice of being in the public eye – of being Mitt Romney – is not enough."

Sudeikis' "Letterman" announcement makes him the latest member of an apparent exodus from "SNL." Stars Fred Armisen and Bill Hader said goodbye to the series at the end of its 38th season in May, following in the footsteps of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg, who left in 2012.

And it presumably won't be long before Seth Meyers, too, graduates to another series, as he's scheduled to take over NBC's "Late Night" after "SNL" alum Jimmy Fallon moves to "The Tonight Show" in 2014.

"It’s been really, really amazing," Sudeikis told Letterman on Wednesday, as he looks ahead to his flourishing movie career. Of his decade spent with "SNL," he said, "I was very, very lucky.”

Sudeikis will next hit theaters in the August 7 comedy "We're the Millers," which also stars Jennifer Aniston and Emma Roberts.
