In the song "Somewhereinamerica," Jay rhymes, "Feds still lurking/They see I'm still putting work in/Cause somewhere in America/Miley Cyrus is twerkin.'" The industry titan is also heard seemingly encouraging Miley's dance moves with the repeated phrase, "twerk Miley, Miley twerk."
Listeners haven't been sure whether Hov is poking fun, providing social commentary, revealing himself to be a fan of the singer's dancing, or all of the above.
Cyrus, meanwhile, has fired off a cryptic tweet so well-timed that most are presuming it's in response to Jay's lyrics.
"Somewhere in America a Jay Z song is onnnnn," she posted on July 4, the same day that "Magna Carta" was released to 1 million Samsung customers.
"Somewhere in America" could be a nod to the song she's featured in, but the latter half of the phrase is also a name-dropping lyric from her own single, "Party in the USA."
Perhaps Jay-Z was simply engaging in a little tit for tat.
