While you were working ...

Today's news you might've missed:

  • Being both Ethan Hunt and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was a mission impossible for Tom Cruise. The actor's dropped out of the latter feature, which also stars Armie Hammer, in order to focus on the fifth movie in the "M:I" franchise. [Deadline]
  • If you go see Robert Rodriguez's "Machete Kills" and spot the name Carlos Estevez, know that he isn't a new actor. No, that's Charlie Sheen's real name - which he's rumored to be using for the first time professionally in the September release. [TMZ]
  • The stand-off between former "Jersey Shore" star Snooki and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was made only slightly less tense with their super awkward meeting at the Jersey shore today. [GossipCop]
  • We all have the one that got away, and for Baz Luhrmann it's "Harry Potter." "I'm an obvious idiot," the director's said of passing over the opportunity to helm the fantasy pic. [CinemaBlend]
  • Lena Dunham was initially squicked out by the reveal of a "Girls" porn parody, and the award-winning creator has since come up with three reasons why: "1. Because Girls is, at its core, a feminist action while Hustler is a company that markets and monetizes a male's idea of female sexuality. 2. Because a big reason I engage in (simulated) onscreen sex is to counteract a skewed idea of that act created by the proliferation of porn. 3. Because it grosses me out." [Lena Dunham's Twitter]
  • Selena Gomez went out to dinner Thursday night with Jaden Smith, the friend of her ex (and maybe still?)-boyfriend Justin Bieber. We have nothing to note here except to point out Jaden's early '90s-esque 'do. He could've been an extra on his mom Jada Pinkett's show "A Different World." [Us Weekly]

Carrie Underwood donates $1 mil to Red Cross

Singer Carrie Underwood has become more akin to an "American Hero" to Oklahomans recovering from this week's deadly tornado.

The 30-year-old OK native (and season 4 "American Idol" champ) has donated $1 million to the Red Cross for disaster relief, which will aid those rebuilding after Monday's monstrous twister decimated the town of Moore, Oklahoma. The sum was generated by proceeds from her "Blown Away" tour.

'Fast & Furious 6': What the critics are saying

Typically, the more installments a movie franchise has, the worse the flicks become.

But with the "Fast & Furious" series, it seems they've put out so many movies the franchise has come full circle to being great again. If you've dismissed "Fast & Furious 6" as nothing but a cheap attempt to milk the last out of a brand, you might want to think again.

Jennifer Hudson might return to 'Idol' as a judge

It sounds like "American Idol" is far more interested in sticking with old friends than making new ones.

After rumors that the show wants Jennifer Lopez to return to the judges' table - which is now missing Randy Jackson and potentially might lose more - come new reports that the production team also has its eye on Jennifer Hudson.

Morgan Freeman was just testing Google Eyelids, guys

After getting caught with his eyes closed during a press interview earlier this week, we thought it looked like Morgan Freeman was sleeping.
