Trailer Park: 'Ender's Game'As promised, the first trailer for November's "Ender's Game" arrived like clockwork on Tuesday. It's much meatier than the teaser clip we were expecting, and fans will be pleased that they're getting a good look at how the adaptation of Orson Scott Card's novel has shaped up.

As Harrison Ford's Colonel Hyrum Graff explains at the clip's opening, "the alien attack nearly destroyed" humanity, and they need "a new kind of soldier - one who doesn't think the way we think, fear the things we fear. One the enemy would never expect." In other words, someone like Ender. Along with Ford and Butterfield, the cast boasts Hailee Steinfeld as Ender's friend, Petra Arkanian; Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham; and Abigail Breslin as Ender's sister, Valentine. Breslin told CNN in March that those who loved the books shouldn't worry about the adaptation taking extreme liberties with the plot. "It does stay true to the book, which I'm excited about," Breslin said. "I love the character [Valentine] in the book as well, so it stays pretty true to the character in the movie." "Ender's Game" opens November 1. |

I love Ben Kingsley. He's been in so many great roles. I loved his bad side in IM3. I don't like his tattoo in this new trailer. Look too weird. I just saw him on a Public Television program, or PBS program, Outlook. He is a man of 1000 talents.

I really did NOT like this book.
It was totally episodic. The entire subplot about ender's brother/sister felt like it was written for a different story, and then tacked onto this one. And at the end of the book...there was a NO resolution of this subplot.
And the idea that they'd let ender run the actual campaign against the bad-guys...while he believed that he was still playing a game. That 'trick ending' was something that Serlin and Matheson could do well. But Card does not have the skills of either of those two.
I only read the first book...so don't bother telling me that my criticisms are dealt with in the next volumes. You either write a book well or you don't. This one falls into the latter catagory.
Pooped my pants again.
You should read the sequels....they go back to the brother and sister.

I'd like to see these movies, as I did read the books. This was before learning that Orson Scott Card is a near fanatic in his opposition to gay marriage and has donated money to people who protest against it. That, I cannot support.
