John Oliver starts as 'Daily Show' host on ...John Oliver will take Jon Stewart's seat behind "The Daily Show's" anchor desk beginning June 10, Comedy Central's announced. Of course, it's not a permanent switch, as Stewart's just taking a hiatus to direct his first movie.
The project, called "Rosewater," is based on a book by journalist Maziar Bahari. In addition to directing the film, Stewart also wrote the script. While he's off working on the film, Oliver will be holding down "The Daily Show" with guests Seth Rogen (June 10), Armando Iannucci (June 11) and Fareed Zakaria (June 13) in his first week. Mavis Staples will also perform on June 12. Until Stewart returns to "The Daily Show" on September 3, Oliver offered these soothing words for fans: “Don’t worry, it’s still going to be everything that you love about ‘The Daily Show,’ just without the thing that you love the most about it," he said in a statement. Also arriving this fall on Comedy Central will be a new show, to be hosted by Chris Hardwick. The late-night program is slated to air four nights a week after "The Colbert Report," according to Deadline. The site describes the format for Hardwick's new gig as a “comedic panel show that will have a heavy social-media presence integrated throughout.” |
