Selena Gomez's bindi draws criticism

Selena Gomez's performance of her new song, "Come and Get It," at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday has received plenty of attention ... but not all of it has been positive.

To some, the 20-year-old singer's bindi, worn on her forehead as part of her costume, was insensitive.

While you were working ...

Today's news you might've missed:

  • An excerpt from an upcoming book on morning TV alleges that Ann Curry suffered through a hellish work environment up until her departure last summer, including, but not limited to, producer-commissioned blooper reels and "who wore it better?" comparisons to Big Bird. [NYTimes]
  • Dick Van Dyke has canceled an upcoming appearance in New York due to fatigue and a "yet-to-be-diagnosed neurological disorder," but a source for the star has added that he's remaining in good spirits. [Us Weekly]

  • As far as Nick Lachey's concerned, Kim Kardashian is responsible for her fame, not him. Although the reality star says that her date with the boy band singer in 2006 paved the way because it blew up in the tabloids, Lachey has a different story: "Let's just say this: We went to a movie. No one followed us there. Somehow, mysteriously, when we left, there were 30 photographers waiting outside. ... There are certain ways to play this game, and some people play it well." [Details]
  • Stephen Colbert has been extra on fire this week. Following his rousing monologue dedicated to Boston, Colbert tackled "Accidental Racist" on Wednesday ... and this was the result:

Peter Dinklage isn't buying his sex symbol status

Although the Internet would like to think so, Peter Dinklage tells Playboy he isn't getting nearly as ... far with the ladies, let's say, as has been suggested.

In the magazine's new issue, the "Game of Thrones" star plays 20 questions, one of which refers to a YouTube video that suggests playing Tyrion Lannister on the HBO series has made Dinklage pretty promiscuous.

To Anne Frank's stepsister, Eva Schloss, the furor over Justin Bieber and a remark he left in the guestbook of the Anne Frank House is "childish."

Trailer Park: Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges in 'R.I.P.D.'

If "Ghostbusters" and "Men In Black" had a baby, it might look a little like the new comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, "R.I.P.D."

As seen in the new trailer, the upcoming release follows a deceased pair of cops as they hunt down dead wrongdoers that are walking among the living to bring them to justice.

Ryan Reynolds' Nick Walker joins the R.I.P.D. - which stands for the "Rest In Peace Department" - after getting murdered on the job. As he teams up with his new partner, Roy (Bridges), he's tasked with going after ghoulish bad guys on top of searching for the person who sent him to the afterlife.

Directed by Robert Schwentke ("Red," "The Time Traveler's Wife"), "R.I.P.D." is set to open July 19. What do you think of the trailer?
