Portia de Rossi: 'It’s just going to be me and Ellen and no babies'

Portia de Rossi is perfectly content being a TV Netflix mom.

Off-screen, however, babies just aren’t in the cards for the “Arrested Development” star and her talk show host wife of nearly five years, Ellen DeGeneres.

“There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think, ‘Am I going to have kids so I don’t miss out on something that other people really seem to love? Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart?’ ” de Rossi told OUT magazine.

“I didn’t feel that my response was ‘yes’ to the latter,” she continued. “You have to really want to have kids, and neither of us did. So it’s just going to be me and Ellen and no babies - but we’re the best of friends and married life is blissful, it really is. I’ve never been happier than I am right now.”

De Rossi is currently gearing up for “Arrested Development’s” fourth season, to premiere on Netflix May 26.

She plays Lindsay Bluth Fünke, mom to daughter Maeby, on the series that aired on Fox from 2003 to 2006.

“Some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen in my whole life is in this new season,” she teases.

I wish more people would make a conscious choice about raising children. Very few people should actually be trusted with parenting a child. And I'm not just talking about obvious cases (abused children).

Good for them! I think it's great that women make choices – any choice is a good choice! Gay or straight, good for them, I congratulate them on being celebrities and I support their choices. Any choices are good. Any choices, made by celebrity women, gay or straight, are to be celebrated! I'm a brainless moron!

Smart women.....child bearing and raising is a trick from the "ancients". It promotes more humans which at this time, we do not need; it also traps people into a nurturing mode which is a controlling and brain bashing place. No babies sounds like a winner to me !

Straight or Gay, A child demand such of attention that I who happens to enter this area two yrs ago would never recommend anybody to bring a baby to this world.

The things is that been a professional, working and living in NYC for most of my life now at age of 40 my wife and I decided to add to our family which is a blessing but the changes to our life style and work is been crazy...

The worries about daycare, education even f. The cost of living doesn't help neither but life must go on!!!

Good for them. Every couple is allowed to make that choice, and both choices are just fine. My GF and I have no intention of having kids either. Lots of advantages for us, and yes some things we will miss, but overall we are comfortable with our choice.

No it's not fine. Bringing children into the world with the intention of denying them a mother and father is selfish and undermines the foundation of an advancing culture.

I had 3 kids while married to their dad. They are now adults, I am 58 and new partner just turned 50–we will not be having children either! Portia 40, Ellen 55-granted likely in better physical and financial health than myself and partner, they are both in stable but time consuming carriers that energize them. They could afford children, but they would mostly be raised by hired caregivers, it is a very responsible decision not to have children. I'm sure they find ways of financially and emotionally supporting children that come into contact with their lives, there are other ways to nurture children that do not require 24 hour parenting. I would not want to be just launching children into the world when I am 60-80 years old!.

    • The fact of the matter

"And if they choose not to have kids , its their choice." It's not their "choice". It's biologically impossible.

      @Steve Congdon
They can "choose" to adopt. They can "choose" IVF. So it's not impossible for them to have a baby.

I'm relieved to hear this. Every time I've seen Ellen D. interacting with kids on her show, I think there is a woman who does not have a great love for children. She just doesn't connect.

Kudos to these women for admitting they aren't kid people. Too many women have kids "so they won't miss out on something." I agree that motherhood should be more than just another thing you tick off on the list.

I do love children and have all of them over for the weekend.....i want a weekend with 8 children all too myself at times......broadway shows, movies, parks, carnivals–i do not take them too beaches or pools because i tend to be afraid of them in the water so i create other types of fun.

of course i need help with these weekend projects so my friend serafina is a mom and pitches in too make sure i'm ok.....i do not have the experience of being alone with children 24 hours day so i need the help.

when they head home they tell their parents they had the best weekend ever–children are not for everyone, i have another family member who is happy the way she is also and she takes all our cousins kids for a weekend of fun as well

in our family the kids view us as their weekend of fun, no parents just fun–LOLOL

what an amazing woman. when it seems that so many celebrities have children for the publicity it gets them, how absolutely wonderful that Portia and Ellen have actually taken the child itself into consideration and made a compassionate and intelligent decision. i certainly admired this couple before, but my respect for them has skyrocketed.

I love Ellen and think she is one of the most compassionate, giving people on earth. If she and her beautiful Portia don't want kids, it's nobody else's business. In fact, I wish more stars wouldn't have kids, so they can give them stupid names like Listerine Gargoyle, Banana Peach and other such stupidity.

That is so great. It is refreshing to see someone consider the mental health of children more important than themselves. I stopped watching the today show after one of the hosts announced her medically induced pregnancy by male sperm so she can raise the child to think males aren't required for children with two mom's.

these 2 are awesome as they are . people dont need children to make them happy and if they are happy already having children could change that so why mess up a good thing. i think too many people have children for all the wrong reasons so kudos to them for thinking it through. children are a blessing if its what you truly want in your heart of hearts.
