Did 'Idol' just have its best performance ever?

"American Idol" contender Candice Glover may or may not take it all this season, but according to judge Randy Jackson, she's already given a history-making performance.

Her rendition of The Cure's "Lovesong" earned both a glitter bombing from Mariah Carey and a standing ovation during Wednesday night's show.

The top six "Idol" contestants were tasked with singing a song from Burt Bacharach, and then a song they wish they'd written.

Glover chose to first sing sing Dionne Warwick's "Don't Make Me Over," which was perfectly lovely:

But when it came time to sing Adele's cover of "Lovesong," Glover showed out and brought down the house:

As Rolling Stone recaps, Glover was just two notes in when she won the audience over.

"A song I wish I had written is The Cure's' Lovesong,'" she told the "Idol" audience Wednesday. "It was done over by Adele, and singing about love is my absolute favorite thing to do. If I was to record an album, I would definitely want to touch on that. Like, when you're alone with someone, and you just feel at peace because you and that person are so connected. There's no one in particular that I'm thinking of now as pertaining to that song, but I definitely know how that feels, and I think that's why I connect with it."

By the time she was done, Keith Urban had stepped out from behind the judges' panel to bow as his fellow judges and the audience stood on their feet and clapped in appreciation. The applause went on for so long that Glover began to cry.

"On behalf of all my judges up here," Randy Jackson exclaimed over the cheers of the crowd, "[that was] one of the greatest performances in the history, in the 12 years of 'American Idol!'"

What do you think, "Idol" addicts - have we found the season's winner?

for me, of all the names mentioned above, Krystal has the most remarkable voice. i don't know why dara is not on the list.. maybe because she's not as young as them. but still, i prefer her as the prettiest. she has the natural beauty and she looks very young despite of her age. she may not be the best singer or dancer, i like her personality...^^

That was pretty good, but black people shouldn't be so enamored of every singer who turns one syllable into 6. That isn't necessarily good singing, it's not being able to hold a note. And there was a huge pitchy bit in the 1:30-1:40 range... singing louder doesn't cover that kind of thing.

OMG!!! I have never been so proud to be from Beaufort, SC as I was watching Candice Glover. The other girls were really good (Lazaro didn't perform anywhere near the level of any of the girls) BUT Candice's voice was on a totally different plane of reality. This girl has a voice every music engineer in the industry dreams of; she sings and they sit back, hit record, and do absolutely nothing.

Yes it is the official video; the sound wasn't heard in the studio but it was on every video of the song, including the show download that I have. It sounded like someone was way too close to one of the boom microphones when they shouted their 'love" ::chuckles:: But yeah its real. And yeah, what's with all the racist stupid posters these days? Sheesh..

A black person has not won idol since who Fantasia? It is so obvious that Randy, Mariah and Nikki are going gah gah over the remaining 2 black females. All the ladies are great but Candace is not one that sticks out.

And that's what's wrong with American Idol. Americans who know nothing about singing get to select the winners. Candice was beyond amazing last night. One of the best performances on TV in years.

That's your opinion. I have been watching Idol since it's inception. I think Candace gave the best performance ever, with Fantasia's Summertime now second. Yes, Clay was good, especially singing Bridge over Trouble Waters, but it was not as good as Candace's rendention of Adele's song last night.

Clay? Who is Clay and where is he now? Oh that's right, he ended up being a nobody like many of the favorites voted for. Jennifer Hudson wasn't voted for by the white crowd either and where is she? Oh right, singing for the President of the United States of America and the first lady. But, she can't sing according to a lot of voters on this stupid show. Jennifer not only sings, she became an actress as well. There was more talent in her right butt cheek than most on the stage during her Idol performances. I hope she turns them down when they ask her to come sing for Idol

What the hell CNN? The second song was great and beautiful but at 1:10 the song someone screwed it up. That is not the official video? If so someone needs to be fired at idol for bombing this.
