Heidi Klum saves son from ocean waves

Heidi Klum's Hawaii beach vacation with family turned frightening on Sunday when her son, Henry, was pulled into a rip current along with two nannies.

As Us Weekly reported, Klum and her bodyguard/boyfriend, Martin Kirsten, immediately raced to save the 7-year-old and the caretakers. Henry is Klum's oldest son; she's also mom to Leni, 8; Johan, 6; and Lou, 3.

“We were pulled into the ocean by a big wave. Like any mother, I was very scared for my child and everyone else in the water," Klum told CNN in a statement. "Thankfully Henry is a strong swimmer and was able to swim back to land and we were able to get everyone out safely."

The 39-year-old supermodel and TV personality, who's currently hosting the latest season of "Project Runway," will appear on "America's Got Talent" as a judge this summer.

If that dumb bimbo did not have her child swimming in that wild waters to begin with, the child would not need saving. I just find her to be very ignorant..

so you wouldn't let your kids swim in the ocean with 2 adults with him and 2 more watching from shore?

So – according to the article her son is a "strong swimmer" – and was able to "swim back to land".

So – exactly how is it that CNN's writer credits Heidi Klum with "saving her son" – when obviously he saved himself ???

It doesn't sound like she saved anyone at all. She said in her own words "he was able to swim back to land'. So why are we making her a 'hero' when she basically did nothing but watched. Sorry but I refuse to give her credit for something she had nothing to do with. It was probably her fault he got pulled out in the first place. Stop trying to make celebrities into Super Heroes. Especially someone who's only claim to fame is wearing clothes and marrying a famous singer.

This woman cannot get enough public attention. Money Money and more money that is exactly what Heidi is all about. Personally I am sick of non stories like this serving only to promote a person who already has everything. I am 100% certain that this exact same thing happens several times a day in Hawaii to people who don't have body guards and nannies. I am glad the child was ok but using the incident to get a press headline, come on. It just shows how low these stars will go to stay in the lime light. Enough is enough, this is a NEWS site. This is not NEWS. If people actually started paying attention to the real stories and not this garbage, learning something other than what a celebrity is up to, America would be a lot better place. If anyone that knows of Heidi Klum never saw or heard from her again on TV or the web our lives would still go on and so would hers, minus the coverage. Stop posting non NEWS stories on a NEWS sites. Let people who want to lower themselves to this type of wasted life go someplace else to read about people they will really never relate to and probably never meet.

As a person who grew up on the beaches of Lake Michigan, you know you never try to swim back to shore if you are caught in a rip tide. Yes, Lake Michigan gets them, too. You always swim horizontally to the shoreline to get out of the riptide. You can't fight it, because it will just suck you out into deep water. I know a lot of people wouldn't think this would happen on Lake Michigan. When the water gets rough, it can get really rough. We used to have the big power boats race on Lake Michigan. It's not like racing on the ocean. The ocean gets the big rollers, we get a lot of chop. The racers didn't really like racing here, just due to that. The lake can be very dangerous, and it can happen so fast you don't see it coming. If the flags are out, you are a fool to get into the water.

    • taffylinden

You're exactly right. I got caught in a riptide on Lake Michigan once and only escaped by swimming parallel to the shore. I ended up a half mile down the beach and so exhausted, I could barely move. The water doesn't LOOK dangerous, so it's not surprising people get caught in this dangerous situation. So maybe Heidi Klum isn't a hero, or maybe every parent who rushes to aid a kid caught in a riptide is. I vote for the latter.

Whatever you think of this model, she must be a good swimmer to attempt a rescue ( her son could also be
a good motivator). The North Shore has been treacherous lately and even when not so- the undertow is incredibly
deceiving. Life Guards are present, but can't patrol the whole beach. I saw 2 grown men get swept up in seconds
and almost drowned just wading 25 yds. off the beach, playing around. Tourists must learn to swim in with the
turbulent wash of the waves; they usually try to swim in in the calmer part which is the invisible current flowing
out from the beach. I'm glad no one drowned and whether it's the fierce motherly instinct or her confidence as a
swimmer-all moot- no one lost their life.

So who actually "saved" the child, and why was Heidi quoted as saying her son is thankfully a strong swimmer? I see this as namedropping by the media, not so much Heidi's grabbing attention. I like this celebrity and I'm glad things in this tense situation worked out okay – but let's get real.

Rip tides are no joke. I was an AAU A class swimmer as a kid and I got sucked out by one of those things at the beach. Doing the logical thing, swimming straight for shore, is the WRONG thing to do and by the time you figure it out it may be too late. Swimming sideways is the way to go until you are free of the current. I'm glad I knew and was even gladder when I got back to the shore. It's fortunate that these folks are ok.

Ripcurrent/Riptdies are dangerous...you should never try swimming against a rip current....that is how people drown no matter how strong a swimmer you are...you have to swim laterally to the land.

Hey detectives, who said the photo was shot directly after the event? It could have been shot by paparazzi earlier in the day or even earlier in the week. You've drawn your conclusion without knowing the facts. Welcome to the interwebtubes.

Rethink your posting name and learn to read a few paragraphs. At least you're anonymous, so even though your stupidity is seen by everyone, you're the only one who really feels it.

Nice reporting. What happened to the Nannies? Were they pulled out to see and drowned? How did Klum save her son if he swam back to land himself?

Am I missing something. The photos show Heidi drying off her son with a towel, the bodyguard soaking wet but she is perfectly dry, including her hair. It sounds like a publicity stunt to me. But what do I know? She may have had her hair dried and styled before the photo was taken.

You are missing something – no one said that the picture was taken right after the rescue.

I don't think Heidi was the one that saved her son. Her dress isn't even wet.

I know exactly how scary this can be, my husband almost died in a rip current in Michigan in 2011. He's a really tough guy, and I never saw him so shook up before. I'm glad everyone made it out safely.

In Michigan? Do you mean one of the Great Lakes? (Really more of an inland sea if you ask me!) I had no idea rip tides could be there! Thank goodness he got out!
