The case of Bryan Cranston's 'Breaking Bad' scriptYou know a show is well-made when a possible stolen script can make or break a season. Such was the fear when, as CNN affiliate KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reported, someone lifted pages from "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston's car.
The 57-year-old actor has portrayed increasingly devious chemistry teacher/meth kingpin Walter White to much acclaim over the past five seasons, and fans of the AMC series are eagerly waiting to see how "Breaking Bad" will end its run this summer. The secrecy surrounding the final episodes appeared to be in danger when someone broke into Cranston's car at New Mexico's Sandia Crest in December. Police have accused Xavier McAfee, 29, of unlawfully entering Cranston's Audi and taking, among other items, the script in question. McAfee told KOAT that he didn't know what police were talking about and said he's just someone who does tile work for a living. He faces one charge of burglary and was released on bail Monday. Court documents say a confidential informant contacted one of Cranston's employees and told her of a bar conversation in which a man claimed to have gone into Cranston's car and taken an iPad and a script. Police say that the script still hasn't been recovered and that the incident is still under investigation. However, co-star Steven Michael Quezada said Cranston didn't mention any stolen scenes. "When we talked, there wasn't no script. He didn't seem worried about a script getting out,” the actor said. “Let me tell you, if anyone would be worried about that, it'd be Bryan for sure.” Sony Pictures doesn't sound concerned about any unauthorized leaks, either. "We applaud the efforts of the Albuquerque police in their arrest of the alleged perpetrator and we look forward to sharing the incredible last season with viewers when the series premieres later this year," the studio said in a statement. |
