Yoko Ono posts photo of Lennon's bloody glassesYoko Ono has entered the debate over gun control with a handful of tweets and one arresting image. On Wednesday, the artist and activist posted an image of a pair of bloody glasses, frames that her late husband John Lennon was wearing on the day he was murdered outside of his New York home.
"Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980," Ono said along with the photo. "We are turning this beautiful country into war zone," she continued. "Together, let's bring back America, the green land of peace." Prior to his death, that effort was a pursuit the couple shared. With March 20 also marking what would have been their 44th wedding anniversary, Ono tweeted, "We decided that if we were going to do anything like get married, that we would dedicate it to peace." Reflecting on the years that have passed since Lennon's murder, Ono tweeted that she and the couple's son, Sean, still miss him. "The death of a loved one,” she said, “is a hollowing experience." |

Remind Ono that NYC has the Sullivan act of 1898 preventing citizens like the shooter from owning a firearm in the city. Did that stop him NO. Would any law on the books stop the shooter NO Will any law passed after today stop the shooter NO. the key word is NO
THANKS
REVIEWED: SAID SAME SH!T AS EVERYBODY ELSE-- SHE'S NO BETTER...OVERLOOK YOKO
THERE IS NOTHING HERE....DAD SAW HER
HO
Yoko had John killed.
–
Oh noooooooooooooooooooo.
We all Miss you John!
Shut up you old hippy – the only time you show your face is when you need to print more money using John's name for something.
I have lost two friends to murder–one by knife and one by gun. When a loved one is murdered, there is an element of horror mixed in with the grief. It is not something one "gets over," but instead we learn to live with it. Those of you who are "tired" of hearing about the murder of John Lennon lack compassion. His murder and the continuing grief of his family are not meant to "entertain" you. Whether or not you agree with her message, to say she should "shut up and move on" is insensitive, and I hope you never have to know what it feels like to lose someone that way.
–
Yoko is a strange duck. Didn't she also give her husband to her assistant because she couldn't deal as a wife for a while? I'm sorry for what happened to the family, but I'm not interested in her message.
–
Anyone? Sunshine girl?
Who are these sick people? Has anyone seen sunshine girl?
A women lost a husband, a child lost a father. A family was blown away in an instant, not by a car, not by a bomb, not by a dog or wild elephant running down the street. It was destroyed by a GUN. This is about gun control, the NEED for strict laws, enforced laws and people waking up to the reality that YES, GUNS KILL PEOPLE. A GUN KILLED JOHN LENNON. Not A CAR! This family will mourn all the days of their lives, just like any family who lost a loved one in such a tragic, mindless way would do. A life was taken , never to return and some of you people act like it is a joke. God bless this family and God bless this nation because if the posts on this site are a reflection of the society we live in, we are in BIG TROUBLE! 🙁
your right that is awful and in poor taste
he would have been fine if he had a gun
thats because yoko sucks
U r a tard
/giggle
Yoko is lobying to take away our second amendment rights b/c of ~1,000,000 gun related deaths in the past 35yrs, while she advocates for abortion, which murders ~1.3 million innocent babies per year!!!
She is way tooled now and we need too let go asap. vote asap.
;p
LOL!! Kaly and Hanna, you both kill me!
we hope yoko gets the help of her problems fixed so she can move on.....
i truly feel sorry for you...i really do....

Over 1,388,347 people have been killed by cars since John Lennon died on December 8, 1980. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WAKE UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE AUTOMOTIVE EPIDEMIC IN THIS COUNTRY!
we license and register automobiles, and we license operators of automobiles. Makes it easier to hold them accountable when they do something wrong involving an automobile.
-
Comparing death by gun violence to death by automotive accidents is like comparing apples to oranges. Cars are used every second, every minute of the day, thus increasing the likelihood of injury or death by automobile accident. Guns, thank God, are not used every second, every minute of the day. If they were than the body count would be much higher in the gun category.
Obviously you can see how well registering and licensing works to prevent deaths. I THINK WE SHOULD HOLD ALL AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS ACCOUNTABLE!
And how often do you use a gun for transportation? OR any other purpose iother than killing stuff? Your argument is equal to a 4 year old screaming about a toy they want in a shop but that the mom doesnt wanna buy. Brat.
The point is that both are inanimate objects that can result in death when used by ACTUAL, LIVING BREATHING HUMAN BEINGS. HUMAN BEINGS being the problem. You focus on the root of the problem (poor drivers, lack of a moral compass, etc.). Passing more laws with little or no enforcement of existing laws solves nothing. You are all fooling yourselves if you think otherwise.
using that "logic," we should do way with all traffic laws in order to save lives, just as we should do away with all gun laws.
You couldn't be more wrong. No where did in my statement is it suggested that we do away with existing laws. The argument is do to a better job of enforcing them. This is a perfect example of someone who makes a rebuttal without stopping to analyze what the other side just said, and is the reason why most debates go nowhere.
your talking your personal life again....stick too topic.
your talking about your personal life again....pls stick too topic. thanks.
what was done worked....and its still working....
God, you Americans and your stupid 2nd ammendment. Your like a 2 year old going through the 'mine' phase were they act like little brats. 'MY GUN, MY RIGHT!' – ok cool so you couldn't even make a guin yourself, this god given right argument is pathetic.
btw those arent spelling mistakes, I just have a crappy keyboard.
where in the Bible it says that American's have a God-given right to possess firearms? I must have missed that. Is it toward the back?
thanks.
nobody is taking anything away--
There are about 100,000,000 gun owners in the US and 99,999,999 of us didn't shoot John Lennon.
Go after the bad guys–and assuming that we're all bad guys is a non-starter.
Thank you. These new regulations do nothing but punish the good, decent, respectful gun owners while not solving the problem of the illegal gun owners.
good for you....
the gun mess is all illegal.....from start too finish....
I'm going to say this just one more time, because obviously you people are the sheep of the NRA. NOBODY wants to take your guns away. Even if a bill was passed, NOBODY is going to come and take your guns away. There are over 2100 guns that are not even affected under this new gun law that they are trying to pass. When are you people going to wake up and do some actual research? Quit listening to the NRA's agenda. They are lying to you to keep you all worked up, so you either go out and stock up on ammo, or buy yourself that assault weapon, or join the NRA. Who do you think is making out like a fat rat on this? The NRA, and all the gun manufacturers. Honestly, what a bunch of babies you gun owners are. You believe anything. And if you already own, say a Bushmaster, NOBODY is going to come and take it away, even if this bill goes through. It is to prevent future sales, not guns that have already been purchased. If 2100 guns are not enough legal guns for you, maybe you should all move to Afghanistan. You can have all the guns you want there. Now, do you gun nuts get this yet? Btw, I own a gun. I am a responsible gun owner. It is locked up in a safe place. You people are ridiculous.
I got bored about halfway thru but grats on having all that energy for the thread
do you understand?
doesn't affect us–all we did was make you jump...
I too noticed that she didn't include Julian's name. Reading here of how Julian was treated, I was deeply disappointed in both John and Yoko. Perhaps John would have made it right had he lived, but since he didn't, it was up to Yoko to make sure Julian was equably treated after the trauma of losing his father. She did not, and for that I lose respect for her. They are living, and John is gone.
Noone every stopped living through this ordeal...
I agree, completely.
Thought that was sad she chose not to mention Julian. As someone who proclaims to be enlightened (by instructing others to do so) she's far from the light.
Yoko, you can't speak common sense or facts to these people (gun lover's). It's called little man syndrome, they need a gun to make themselves feel good, about the little .22 in their pants. Its the dumb American way.
Yes, nothing you said was rhetorical. Not an ounce of caustic venom or any indication that you have sacrificed objectivity for hatred. I can certainly expect you have a constructive perspective on anything you disagree with. This is clearly a one-sided issue. Hate on, hater.
Stop looking down Joe, you must stop looking down...
it never was our problem–it was all Yoko.
we said it was over now move on Yoko
Regardless of how you feel about Yoko or John, the image itself is poignant. There's something quite sobering about this artifact of violence; the bloody remnants of a man's fading life, a life stolen by the whim of another.
There is something about a woman who keeps her husband from his first child (I loved his music, but he was a very immature man who let her take control over his life) and then continues to ignore his existence that makes anything she does suspect and without a whole lot of credibility.
Be positive.
No big deal they were displayed in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame for a Lennon. I saw them in person years ago.
I saw them yesterday
I live in South Korea, and even with the knowledge that we can be bombarded at any moment and living with a lot of precautions to avoid seafood contamination due to a fatal allergy I suffer, I feel more safer here than being in the States. Iam truly terrified about the day we head back there, and look at that day in the calendar with fear. I believe, if people want to excercise there exagerated and abuse right of being armed, they can do it with only one gun. I dont see the need for assault weapons, excesive guns and excesive amunitions. Too much is too much. I also believe armed people should be screened universally and every down and then. We can not keep covering the sky with a hand, we have a problem in the society, our way of raising our childrens, the way we teach hate, the way the politicians teach hate and put it in our heads... the way we resolve problems, the lack of compassion and respects for others. Seeing those people that kill with all the intention of doing it in a big number, and how easily they got the arms and ammunitions... for so many years, is reallly obvios we are failing and we need to accept that something great have to be done. It is time for ALL the politicias to grow some backbone, and face reality and not there pockets. We need help, please, do your job and protect us! And we, the people, we need to work to be a better society, better people.
Nilda where are you from? Are you an American citizen? In any case, NIlda I don't know if somebody just put a lot b.s. in your head or you're paranoid but you sound nuts.
I agree with Miranda. Here in Canada, gun ownership is around 30% and I don't think I've ever seen anyone holding and carrying a gun. Gun owners say it's safer in a city where everyone's armed? I say, I feel safer in a city where the stranger next to me on the streets, shop or bus doesn't have a gun. Just seems like we have a greater level of trust among us, and it works: outside of gangsters shooting each other, gun violence is quite low and we haven't had a mass shooting in decades.
you really should stay there, you actually have more of chance dying in an automobile accident in the US than by gunshot.
but have you seen the traffic fatality % in S Korea? it's higher than USA per 100,000 search youtube for driving in korea
Dearest Yoko Ono.
I too, like so many, felt the loss of your husband, miss him and celebrate his life and his music.
I, too, have also lost close friends from guns. However, I believe that we should be very careful how we treat the second Amendment in this country.
I am not own or have guns in my home, but I will not ask the government to pass laws to take away guns from law-abiding citizens to protect society from the sick, bad and broken. This heads down a path from which we cannot return. I
We must be very careful not to put such power in the hands of the few...
I applaud you and your family for all you have done to represent peace. Leading the way by example, music and art is a better way than handing the rights to "solve" our problems to the powerful and corrupt. Blessings to you.
Hey, Moron (Yoko) Put the drugs down and do some research before you run your mouth. The census bureau and the FBI keep pretty good stats on crimes like murder. There have been about 545,650 murders since 1980. Firearms were used in 356,123 murders. Do the research, check your facts or shut up.
Hmm, I don't think I like you very much...
Hey, moron, Yoko didn't say just murders, she listed all the deaths FROM GUNS in America since Lennon's death. If you're too dumb to understand that murders aren't the only deaths by gun–for example, the many accidental deaths each year–then you're too stupid to own guns, or to comment about them on the Internet. Or you're just another right-wing idiot who doesn't care about facts and doesn't care about those accidental deaths from handguns. Moron.
Where do you get off talking to someone like that? Its people like you that cause people like us to try and get gun control. If you can't be part of the solution get the @@@ out of the way.
They always fail to include the number of crimes that have been prevented or ended by people who defend themselves wuth legal firearms. The criminal who invaded our home 2 years ago will never bother anyone again. The stories like ours need to be front page news, but the liberal media buries them. If the government takes away our legal guns, criminals will still have them.
You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. – Isoroku Yamamoto
Whether or not it was actually said is still to be debated but I'm a firm believer that had it occurred many millions more would be dead by comparison. Have a good day Yoko.
There is no "whether or not." It WAS NOT. Precisely the sort of garbage that circulates on the Internet.

Here is a song from my new album:

Some of the funniest days of the Stern show had the gag where she was signing like that. Oohhh Ahhhh wheeee Ohhhhh Ohhhhhhh
GDI – great days on the Stern show
she sees me with my glasses on folks–that's all it is.
You make money from selling daddy's mug yet? I need petrol money for the Range Rover
its a beautiful day out...got out and enjoy it!!!!
I miss John Lennon every day too.
John was a dead beat dad. While he, Yoko and later Sean were living it up in NY, Julian and his mother were on welfare. Julian dedicated his first album to his dad and named his step-father as his dad. Yoko screwed Julian out of his inheritance sending him a $1 dividend check. He framed it.
I'm glad you brought that up. Too much adulation has been given to John Lennon. Sure, he was a musical genius, but he was stunted as a person. His death was tragic, absolutely! But to make him out as some kind of hero is just wrong.
–
I bet a million dollars her security has handguns on themselves.
I was just below her and Sean and George's wife at the McCartney concert at Vegas two years ago. She had an armed guard STANDING beside her for the entire concert, blocking the view of dozens of people behind her. If not for her, John wouldn't have been walking around in public which was her asinine way of thinking. And if a gunman didn't end his life, that caterwauling shrill un-human horror noise coming out of her throat she calls singing, surely would have.
@mfhpr... A 5yr old took a shotgun and a handgun out in the yard and shot the handgun... Did the handgun survive? Yoko is, was, and always will be a dirty hippie. No one who can read above a National Enquirer level gives a d@mn what she says
Isn't she an illegal?
Go to bed, Yoko. It's way past your bedtime.
Dear Yoko,
Would you feel better if he had been stabbed? Is his death somehow more tragic having been shot?
The answer to both questions is NO. Murder is murder no matter how it was accomplished. How about you talk about mental health care issues? That's what killed your husband.
Love,
Common Sense
You and I both know that he would have had a better chance of surviving if Chapman had a knife... just look at that guy who tried to go on a killing rampage with a knife in that Chinese school vs. the Newtown Massacre. NONE of the victims died at the Chinese school... NOT A SINGLE ONE.
And yes, mental health is an issue that needs to be addressed, but not the ONLY one as the gun nuts proclaim. The easy access to guns also needs to be addressed. There needs to be a very lengthy and thorough process before a person can get one, involving intelligence tests, psychological tests, etc. And there need to be extreme penalties for anyone obtaining or owning such a weapon illegally.
@Michael,
You conveniently left out these school children in China who were slaughtered with a knife.
On March 12, 2010, Zheng Minsheng killed 8 children with a knife at a elementary school in Nanping, China.
On May 12, 2010, Wu Huanming killed 7 children and 2 adults with a cleaver at a kindergarten in Hanzhong, China.
In August 2010, Fang Jiantang killed 3 children and 1 teacher with a knife at a kindergarten in Zibo, Shandong province, China.

Yoko.....You forgot to mention the fact that Julian Lennon misses his father also.....remember him? and if you want to talk about war lets talk about the one YOU created between Julian and his father? { HYPOCRITE }
Let me sing you a song. Wheeee aaaaaaaaa iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeea aaaaaaaaa ieeeeeeeeeee
I bet the security that guards her penthouse only have pepper spray and nightsticks.
YOKO just die already . The Beatles crappy pop music and hippy crap sucks ONOS.
Yoko Ono needs to send that pic to the CIA and the U.S. gooberment since they were the ones that used their guns to take out John. Get a clue Ono.
Were those the same agencies that also took out the Kennedy bros, MLK, arranged for the 9/11 attacks, etc? Genius! Just GENIUS! Thanks!
Get psychiatric help.
The sheer stupid of your lecturing to someone WHO WAS THERE WHEN IT HAPPENED is hilarious beyond belief.
wait wait wait.....the glasses have 'lennons blood on them' and everyone goes bananas with anti gun glee...monica's dress stain from slick willi was fake though...ok I see now.
Yoko Ono is a nut and is trying to be relevant.
I'm surprised there hasn't been a reality show yet on her.
So sad how this country feels it needs to overcompensate.
when was this country EVER the "the green land of peace" its so sad people do not live in reality its great to think of a utopia but evolution and nature tell us NO
I have one question for all you gun toting vermin that continue to spout your selfish agendas while covering up the facts. If there were no guns then how many people would senselessly die due to a gunshot? Less guns = less death, it's just reality, deal with it... If only the gun owners would just shoot themselves, soon we'd live in a safer and more peaceful world. Sure there would still be lunatics and maniacs blowing people up or stabbing each other but the loss of life would be a fraction compared to what we have now with a gun obsessed society in America... Seems like simple logic a 5 year old could come up with.
perhaps you should notice the heighten gun violence in countries that do not allow their citizens to own guns... Just because you do not like guns does not give you the right o call me vermin.
Gun Control is being able to hit what you aim at, and I aim at the people that want to hurt my friends and family. Why did the DHS buy over 1 billion rounds of ammo? You think North Korea is a Police State, wait until the Democrats finish their agenda. Why are you liberals so narrow minded? Pull your head out of your donkey, and see what is going on.
@Rinfanti LOL, are you joking? Come up with something better then that, why don't you look at America where you can own a gun and we have an astronomical amount of deaths by guns compared with most other country. Most countries where guns are illegal have far less deaths, what are you smoking. Yes, you deserve to be called VERMIN stocking your home with useless guns to protect you from a bs threat and putting another chance for harm to come to me and my family. Sorry, I don't trust you or your friends, family or associates.
Tell that to the kids who get shot every day on the south side of Chicago. They have the strictest gun laws in the country, and one of the highest gun violence rates. I agree with you that something needs to be done, but banning guns outright will not solve the problem.
If you are going to speak of vermin, then perhaps you should ONLY speak of yourself......
If there were no guns, you would be cleaning the loo for the King and wiping his ass with your mother's hand sewn butt hanky.
Just admit you're a fascist who adores the control freaks in our government. You're the "vermin" who support the tyranny and hypocrisy coming from Washington.
We still miss him too Yoko...
Amen
@EricG, we spend billions securing ourselves from crime and lawlessness each year. Take drugs for instance, not on the list... How much money do we spend, how effective are we, how many die? What about rape or murder by knife wounds or strangulation? This is just a hot political topic right now with people jumping on the bandwagon. Yes, we should work on other things first. The ones that will really make a difference and not just politically.
This is a very sad statistic. But there is an even sadder one. There have been over 1,000,000 abortions in the United States every year since 1980. That is 33,000,000 people killed for no reason other than ego and money.
Ryan: That's not the topic at hand. Perhaps a pet peeve of yours, but not the issue currently under discussion. We're talking about guns killing people, not women making medical decisions for themselves.
Julian wasn't mentioned because he is not her son. And these glasses were displayed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for months too, in a special John Lennon display. She also loaned the Hall of Fame his bag of clothes from the emergency room that he was wearing the day he died. She's weird.
Julie, that is not weird at all. It is a very meaningful and graphic representation of the horror of violence and death. Perhaps it will allow more people to relate to it and understand it.
Lennon's murder is due to a mentally ill killer's total fascination to the point of this crime and the world has never been & will never be..."Together, let's bring back America, the green land of peace."...and America is part of this world.
Celeb's have no more influence than Joe Blow does nowadays with the e-world...Yoko's comments are already fading into the great ether of e-vapors...she has always been far from the norm and her opinions have always been of no value since John's murder...
Why no mention of Julian?
I think it was very brave and artistic for Yoko to post a picture of John's glasses. Unless you have lost someone to that type of violence I don't think you understand their pain. I have been saddened that such a talented man of peace was murdered in such a violent way.Although I believe in the right to defend yourself, I do respect the Lennon family and their views on peace and the environment.
If John Lennon was run over by a car, should we have banned cars by now?
@Roberto Lewis: that's funny, i've never heard of a car designed to kill people.
Roberto Lewis: Ever try to conceive an intelligent argument? Yours is simply senseless. Think for yourself and IMAGINE. Many things kill – legal and illegal. Grasp for grander thoughts. We haven't illegalized cigarettes, but we have limited access because tobacco kills. Sanity must rule in a civilized society.
John Lennon is portrayed as a man of peace and goodwill towards all.......BS.....He abandoned his wife and son and offered no support to either of them in life or death....basically disowning his first born son as if he never existed....largely due to Yoko Ono....and this seemed to be completely acceptable to John Lennon......"The so called man of peace" did he even care about the emotional scarring his abandonment would cause his son? NOPE ......I have no respect for this guy one bit and turn off his music when I hear it ! He's getting his now though....
Owning a gun has been linked to higher risks of homicide, suicide, and accidental death by gun.
• For every time a gun is used in self-defense in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or around a home.
• 43% of homes with guns and kids have at least one unlocked firearm.
• In one experiment, one third of 8-to-12-year-old boys who found a handgun pulled the trigger.
Please stop spreading these 20 year old debunked claims. Everyone who has been paying attention know that they have been either discredited or used so far out of context as to be meaningless.
Thanks. These statistics continue to grow, not recede. Perfect example: This week in my metro area a 5yr old boy that was being babysat found unguarded guns in the closet of the babysitting family, took a shotgun and handgun out into the yard, and shot the handgun. Just one example of the senseless events that happen every single day in this nation. Cops leave their guns out and their kids shoot their siblings, The need to have guns is leading to senseless injury and death every single day...
Fact is 1% of crime is gun related.
Fact: Stalin confiscated guns – murdered 20 million of his citizens
Fact: Hitler confiscated guns – murdered 6 million Jews and 5 million "undesirables"
Fact: Militant police raids in USA kill over 5,000 people a year, mostly by no knock warrants in the middle of the night.
Fact: Bad guy breaks in my house with a gun, that will be one gun you will no longer have to worry about.
I wonder if you would move to a high crime area in any of these gun control states?
In a police state, the only one safe are the rulers with the guns.
In 2010, there were almost 2,500,000 deaths in the US if that figure were constant since 1980, that would then be over 80,000,000 deaths. Figures lie and liars figure I have heard. I feel saddened by meaningless death regardless the cause. If we are concerned about death, let's work on the top 10 causes first: Heart disease, Cancer, Chronic lower respiratory diseases, Stroke, Accidents (unintentional injuries), Alzheimer's disease, Diabetes, Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis, Influenza and Pneumonia, and Intentional self-harm (suicide). Just these ten represent 75% of the deaths each year and don't take into account those killed by abortion...
So, although we already do concentrate on much of what you say and pour money into research to combat most them, we should go ahead and not even consider working towards securing ourselves on something just because we have 'better things to work on'?
It's true that everyone dies eventually, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't work to reduce or eliminate premature death or unnecessary murder.
She didn't include his son Julian in her remarks. Does she Julian doesn't miss him because he was treated like an afterthought. So sad.
She didn't include Julian because she doesn't speak for him, doesn't live with or around him, and just recently settled relations with him. Why would you or anyone else ask this question? She barely knows Julian. Julian and his father were estranged while John was married to Yoko.
Does ANYONE take Yoko Ono seriously? Have they EVER??
Oh, and a video of Piers Morgan and Michael Moore......talk about a waste of DNA!!
Hate to break it to you Bill, by your comments are so 2009.
Why? Because they believe strongly enough about something that they're willing to speak out and risk their professional reputations, even when those views aren't always popular?
She does this all the time. HIs bloody specs were on the cover of "Milk and Honey" his album with her published after her death, yes it is a total weirdo waste for her to do this.
She feels free and the need to do this because she and John were soul mates. She helped John realized who he really was and wanted to be. Listen to his lyrics about their relationship. They were joined at the hip: she shared his views and he shared hers. Anyone that tried to understand John Lennon would know that he would be all for her actions and words today. It's who he was and she knows that just as any wife would know her soul mate of a husband. There are no second thoughts on what John would want her to say and do regarding activism for peace.
I just looked up the stats for car deaths per year since Johnny boy ate it, turns out at about 34000 deaths a year, cars pace gun deaths, and cars have become safer! Who'd a thunk it! People kill people, cars, bats, knives, guns, IED's piano wire.... it takes a village!
Howard Stern said that Sean is the "officially authorized" Lennon child. "Imagine if you were a good father..." he said.
Thanks Yoko, be sure to dis-arm your bodyguards next time you come out to play with us little people.
Yoko seems to be taking a page from her deceased husband's book - imagining we once, if ever, lived in a "green land of peace." We don't, and the law abiding must protect themselves. It's a charming eutopian vision, it just doesn't happen to exist.
In a eutopian society you'd spell utopia right
Reblogged this on My views, My thoughts.
Sobering to be sure. Still...When was this ever the green land of peace?
Over 15,000,000 have been killed by automobiles and drunk drivers since 1980. Cigarettes alone have killed more than 5,000,000 since 1980. Sounds to me like guns are pretty safe. 1,057,000 deaths is not a lot over a 33 year time span. Especially considering that most metropolitan areas in the US have a population of 3+ million per city.
I agree with you. Only 1 million have died from guns since 1980? How many have we lost to Cancer? There are bigger threats to Americans than guns.
Tell that to the parents of those 20 kids who were killed by a lunatic. Did you know that there are 2100 different types of guns that are not even on the gun ban. Exactly how many guns do you need to hunt with, or to protect your family. Do you need a gun with a high capacity clip? Do you need to protect the criminals and the nut cases who want a gun to do harm to others? What about the majority of Americans who favor tighter gun controls? We don't count, as long as you gun nuts are happy? I don't care whether you own a gun or not. That's your right. We have no interest in coming to get your guns, like the NRA keeps jamming down your throats. We want only responsible people to own guns, not criminals or nut cases. The funny thing, just a few years ago, the NRA was all for beefing up universal background checks. It didn't violate your rights back then, what changed? Think about this. How much money do you think the NRA has made just in the last few months pushing this"their gonna take you guns, and you won't be able to buy one, either". Yeah, the $$ has been pouring in.
So Jeff, you think that all methods of death are equal? We don't have a cure for cancer. We do know how to prevent a bullet from destroying a fragile life. Please tell me you know the difference.
Sarah and What!:
These jack-wads don't know the difference and don't want to. It's the caveman syndrome evermore. They cannot equate any need for legal ownership of firearms with legal consumption of any other product. Sane and reasonable firearms ownership isn't even allowed to be discussed as long as the NRA and wing-nuts tell them it's not. You're wasting your time with them, but reasonable, practical people appreciate your comments.
mfhpr: Um, I don't know if you realize this, but there are pretty strick gun laws in place already. The Sandy Hook shooter was actually denied a sale of guns because of a waiting period. He stole the guns from his mom after killing her.
No one is against background checks, not even the NRA.
Why not include his other son who I'm sure misses him as well?
Jen,
From Wikipedia...
In a Playboy interview with David Sheff shortly before his death, Lennon said, "Sean was a planned child, and therein lies the difference. I don't love Julian any less as a child. He's still my son, whether he came from a bottle of whiskey or because they didn't have pills in those days. He's here, he belongs to me, and he always will." He said he was trying to re-establish a connection with the then 17-year-old, and confidently predicted, "Julian and I will have a relationship in the future." After his death it was revealed that he had left Julian very little in his will.
Not that he doesn't miss John, but it's probably because it isnt Yoko's kid it is John and Cynthia's.
Yoko has always been nasty to/ignored Julian and acts like Sean is the only child. After John died, Julian asked Yoko for some of his father's personal effects, and she wouldn't give him anything. Nice.
Because ultimately Julian is the only real Lennon. And not her b@stard child. Julian and his mother hard to pick up the pieces she her kid left behind. And yet they don't want nothing to do with them.
