Oscar winner Ang Lee to direct FX pilotIt's got to feel promising to have a two-time Oscar winner on board to direct your TV pilot. Such is the case for the team behind FX's forthcoming drama pilot "Tyrant," which has nabbed "Life of Pi's" Ang Lee.
Lee, who won an Oscar for directing 2005's "Brokeback Mountain," earned the same award at the 2013 Oscars with "Pi." But he's not the only high-profile award winner associated with the project. According to a statement from FX, "Tyrant" is being executive produced by "Homeland's" Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, who've earned Emmy and Golden Globes love with their Showtime series, as well as by "Lost" and "Six Feet Under" writer/producer Craig Wright. Written and created by Raff and developed by Wright and Gordon, "Tyrant" follows an American family as its drawn into "the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation." If the pilot goes to series, Wright will be "Tyrant's" showrunner. This drama pilot will mark Lee's debut as a director on TV - and, as it turns out, it's also his first post-Oscar project. “The fact that the brilliant Ang Lee has signed on to direct his first project for television speaks to the extraordinary nature of ‘Tyrant,’” said Bert Salke, the president of Fox 21, which will produce the show. “Ang Lee, Gideon Raff, Craig Wright and Howard Gordon are master storytellers at the height of their powers, and the material is incredible. We can’t wait to get started.” "Tyrant" is expected to head into production this summer.
