Ryan Gosling has some skeletons on his resume

Every actor has a "before I was famous" story, and Ryan Gosling is no exception.

But, interestingly enough, he's found that the bigger his career gets, the harder it is to watch his own work.

"You get more critical, and also you have more control, so you’re like, more responsible when it doesn’t work," the 32-year-old Canadian actor told CNN. "It used to be that I had a lot of places to hide, or a lot of people I could blame it on, but it’s getting to a point where I can kind of only blame it on myself."

When an actor's in a position where he's not really able to choose his own movies, "you’re just like an actor for hire, you’re just doing whatever you can do, whatever you can get," Gosling said. "You just need a job. But then as you get along you get to choose the movies that you do, and you have to kind of take responsibility for what they represent and how they resonate in the world."

While he didn't specify what early role particularly makes him blush, he did tell us that he's had "so many skeletons."

But, on the bright side, "it’s kind of good for me," he continued with a laugh. "I can’t have any delusions of grandeur because I just have to go on YouTube and it’s all there."

But his newest project, "The Place Beyond the Pines," doesn't fit in that category.

"I did love making this film, and working with [writer/director] Derek [Cianfrance] is an opportunity that is very rare," he said.
