Carrie Fisher as an 'elderly' Princess Leia? Not so fastCarrie Fisher is open to the idea of joining the cast of Disney's upcoming "Star Wars" films, but that doesn't mean it's a done deal. While the actress told Palm Beach Illustrated that she's set to reprise her role of Princess Leia, it seems she was pulling someone's leg.
"She was joking," a rep for Fisher told CNN about the star's comment. "Nothing has been announced." When and if something is announced, though, we'll be interested to see if it falls in line with Fisher's vision of what her character would be like today. "Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home," Fisher laughed. "I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle."

I love Carrie Fisher. I think its very cuel to make fun of her wieght and mental illness. Shes really an amazing woman. I admire her strength and bravery. Like Princess Leia she has struggled againt evil forces in her own life and Im in her corner hoping she wins. I would love to see her in the new Star Wars films.

What a bunch of misogynistic, woman haters. If the character will appear having aged 30 years, then all 3 of them probably look as they should and their characters look. Maybe you should check out some info on her life post-Star Wars, both personally and professionally.

You guys ought to read some of the articles where she discusses what she had to do to get in that slave bikini. When motivated she has the work ethic. I am guessing that a contract to appear in the next SW series would be very motivating for her and I have high confidence that she'll do a great job. As much as he was everyone's favorite, Han Solo would not have worked without princess Leia, let's all remember that.

If the new movies take place during the New Jedi Order timeline (the most likely choice unless they decide to really botch the canon) then Carrier FIsher is about the correct age for Leia in that time period. I think it would be great to get Mark, Harrison and Carrier back at least for a cameo since they're all around the same age as their characters would be in the timeline, and then it can focus on their children as the protagonists afterwards.
Ah, but who knows how rapidly the aging process proceeds in the Stars Wars epoch? That could introduce the possibility of her, and Luke, and Han, and maybe even Chewbacca (How many Wookie years in a human year?) being alive a thousand years later.

great news! she'll be fine! she's 35 yrs older, get over it youngins. she'll look older, but so what. her hair will be down like in the later scenes, and the makeup and acting coaching they'll receive will make them just like the characters once again.

You do understand that a lot of time has passed since they made STAR WARS? Getting old isn't a sign of weakness or lack of resolution. Something like bad ankles or internal problems can make it really hard to exercise efficiently, and a lot of medicines make you retain water in your tissues and make you look fatter. If you don't know these things, just go on living and you will find them out the hard way.
I don't care how old she is - I'd still like to see her wearing that Return of the Jedi slave bikini outfit.

If Carrie Fisher isn't in it, I'm not going to waste my time with it. She was the best part of the original series. The last 3 (the prequels) were so bad because they didn't have anyone who could act in them. Natalie Portman and whoever played Anakin may have been physically attractive, but they were boring as hell. Young Anakin was one dimensional and a terrible choice for a great multidimensional villain. Samuel L.Jackson was silly as a jedi. Jar Jar Binks was beyond ridiculous. I'm sure Carrie can get in shape for it and act the ass off any of the plastic people they get to pass the "baton" to. What's the point of more Star Wars without any of the originals? The originals are the stars. Not the lightsabers and stupid costumes.
Jar Jar Binks was a far better actor than that little kid (Jake Lloyd) who played young Anakin Skywalker in Phantom Menace.
IIRC, both Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are supposed to reprise their roles, as well.
I would have to disagree with you, though. I think the three original movies were all about Harrison Ford's acting ability, not Fisher's. Ford is the one who pulled it off and didn't make it sound forced. He was also the more experienced actor (Apocalypse Now and American Graffiti).
When the prequels came out, I was psyched and went to see them in the theater. But since they were very underwhelming, I'll probably just wait to see the new movies when them come out on Netflix.
I rest my case.

Oh my gods, people get old, big @$#!ing surprise. It'll happen to all of us if we don't die first. personally I'd like her and all the rest of the old cast to be in it, but as minor characters, passing the torch to new heroes. If they can capture the same dynamics the old cast had, and put a new spin on it instead of just recycling, and give them good dialogue & story to work with, and some good practical effects instead of CG overload, these will be good films.

Please let her be in it! Carrie is fabulous. Lucas and Lucasfilm choices have been worse than horrible from episode 1 forward... Dear old Leia would be a wonderful grounding presence. I want her as fat and jaded as possible.

Carrie Fischer is as smart and feisty as ever. If she needs to lose weight for the role, she can do it. She just needs to take care of herself, stick to her (prescribed) meds, and she'll do fine. The cruise ship circuit is not for her – too stressful. She is bipolar, but so are a lot of other people, many of them great artists, actors, musicians, and even scientists and business owners. When they're up, they soar. When they're down, they crash. I think Carrie is great, both on and off the set. What's a few extra pounds? "Look this good, you, at 600 years? I think not!"
Personally, I think it would be pretty cool to have her in the movie. I don't know what part she'd play, but have her in it regardless. For me, just a nostalgia thing.
I would pay to go to that movie just because she was in it.....and I don't go to movies that much!

Its sick how many of u make fun of ms. fishers weight problems. if u knew anything u would know that carrie has struggled with bipolar disorder for years and has been brave enough to pubically discuss her horrific struggles. anyone at all knows weight gain is a common side effect of antipsychotics. carries has gone on oprah and demonstrated her courage by discussing some of her more craized times....if u think its funny to make fun of a bipolar person with a weight problem u probably would kick a sick puppy. bravo carrie fisher not only for the chain mail jabba dress but also for ur many postcards from the edge!

I think it would be great to see her back in this role. I grew up watching Star Wars, Empire, & Jedi....all during my grade school year. I am part of that generation & I think the original actors would bring back the magic that these last three films didn't have.

Props to Carrie, however Leia is a fit Jedi in the canon which followed the film. Really, if there's any notion of portraying an older Leia, need to get to the gym as most actors do, to get ready for such a role.
