The Kimmel, Morrissey stand-off continues

The stand-off between Morrissey and Jimmy Kimmel is still on a roll, as both the late night host and the musician have gotten into a war of words over Morrissey's critical position on "Duck Dynasty."

If you'll recall, the former Smiths frontman pulled out of an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Tuesday because the cast members from "Duck Dynasty" were going to be on as guests.

"As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers," Morrissey said in a statement earlier this week. "If Jimmy cannot dump 'Duck Dynasty' then we must step away."

Kimmel ended up hosting "Duck Dynasty" as planned, joking on Tuesday's show that while he "respects [Morrissey's] stance, there's a very good reason why I didn't dump the 'Duck Dynasty' guys for Morrissey. And that's because they have guns."

The singer, Kimmel continued, "keeps finding new ways to depress us."

Morrissey didn't find that so funny, and on Wednesday gave a statement that counted the reasons why.

"I was disappointed with last night’s 'Jimmy Kimmel Show,' wherein our smiling host managed to ridicule depression (70 percent of Americans have experienced depression according to the National Institute of Mental Health)," Morrissey said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking of Kimmel, the singer went on to say that the host "found time to ridicule healthy eating (the obesity epidemic in the U.S. costs $147 billion per year in medical expenditure), and he also ridiculed the notion that animals should be entitled to the possession of their own lives. Furthermore, he found time to jokingly promote gun-ownership – hugely amusing for the parents at Sandy Hook, no doubt. ... None of the above issues are, of course, as important as Jimmy Kimmel himself, who has finally revealed his show to have an overwhelming loss of meaning."

Kimmel swiftly responded Wednesday afternoon on his Twitter account:

And later on that night, on his show.

"I'll be honest, it made me very angry," Kimmel said of Morrissey's statement. "I have a lot of respect for people who don't eat meat ... but the statement he made is ridiculous. I'd like to invite him to join me on the show to discuss it. I am an open, even-handed person, who considers and respects all points of view."

"I figure if I say it enough," Kimmel joked, "maybe it'll be true."

We'll see if Morrissey makes it back to Kimmel to hash out their differences. According to his Facebook page, the singer's back on his North American tour, which was scheduled to pick up in San Diego Wednesday night.

Morrissey is a joke. One of the main problems with the world today is everyone has to get into everyone else's business and try to impose their way on them. Get over it....some people eat meat and some don't. It also should be noted some people can sing and some can't.

The fact is there is a moral question to be answered when it comes to killing animals, but it would seem you have assiduously avoided this question.

Allow me to rephrase your sentiment during the civil war era:

One of the main problems with the world today is everyone has to get into everyone else's business and try to impose their way on them. Get over it....some people own slaves and some don't.

I agree with Morissey. Good for him. All the comments against him are idiotic. As an ex-hunter, I can attest that animals suffer miserably by hunters- most of whom are inept drunkards

I don't think any self respecting performer would share a stage with that lot. You do have an image to keep up, while the Duck Dudes don't. Enjoy your fame D.D. Morrissey just gave you the worlds stage to shine.

Define "lot". Phil Robertson played football with Terry Bradshaw and was better & he has a masters degree in education and was a teacher. Willie has a degree in business and they are all actively religious people. They travel around and speak about their faith. Si is known for his storytelling. And the Robertsons are all funny as heck! Morrissey is against government (both in England and the US), he is said to be racist, and he is depressing. Why would Duck Dynasty want to share a stage with HIM is the question?

How strange that Morrissey espouses healthy eating habits when in fact, he cancelled yet another San Francisco performance because of an ulcer. I had tickets for a show in Nov 2012, which was cancelled and rescheduled for Feb 2013, which was also cancelled. He was photographed out in LA with Russell Brand that evening. Ugh,he is such a diva. To think I still cared about seeing him perform. Shame.

Morrissey is the son and heir of nothing in particular. One good song he ever wrote is simply not good enough for me to care what he thinks three decades on. Preachy vegans are hypocrites in the extreme - they are irritating, haughty, intractable, pushy and huffy. And they manage to be all these things all the while coming of as whimpy. Go get em, Kimmel. Take him to task, the foolish radical, and make him shut up. Now I'm going to eat a nice rare lambchop.

TXproud, it is true that early humans hunted. But they probably did it in times of depravation and desperation as they travelled away from the tropics and food became scarce during winters. We have physically remained unchanged for the last 200,000, and no human alive is a natural hunter. We only do so with implements (guns and spears). So, it is a difficult activity which has always carried the risk of injury and death for humans who have participated in it. Most of our prehistoric diet consisted of plant foods (vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds) that were easy to pick and collect. This is evident in the fossil remains – the molars are worn down due to a diet consisting of raw fruits, veges, nuts, seeds, tubers, roots, leaves etc. This is the same diet that gorillas and orangutans have. Our bodies have not evolved to hunt, otherwise we would look more like lions. We have used trickery to do so when times got difficult. There is a reason why humans originated on the equator – there was an abundance of plant foods throughout the year. Humans literally thrive on a plant-based/vegan diet. I have read a lot about nutrition and discussed it with my medical colleagues. i used to eat meat, dairy and eggs...but i stopped 3 years ago, and i feel stronger and more healthier than i've ever been. Never say never. All the best, bro.

Yeah, right. We evolved higher brain functions, which is why we don't have to do the dangerous deed of chasing down our food. Humans higher IQ allowed the development of weapons and traps to kill when not present or at a father distance, which is important when the population is growing. Yes, farming of vegies is as important as farming animals...farming another higher brain function.

I saw in the New York Times last year that doctors are saying that a vegan diet can cause some people to become depressed. That could explain why the animal rights movement claims to be about peace and love but usually winds up being about rage, aggression and control. You rarely see any of the peace and love and tolerance these people claim to espouse.

They are both celebrities that got popular for being eccentric. It's like if Armani and Calvin Klein had to develop their obnoxious clothes and fragrances in the same building. You'd get this same petty bickering back and forth like we're seeing between these drama queens. But I have to admit, it does seem like JK is in a fight with a different celebrity every week. But seriously, if you have a problem with hunting then fine, let the World know how you feel. But when you start giving other people ultimatums that they have to change their lives immediately for your viewpoint... well, that's a little overboard. It's also called being a dictator and I have a bigger problem with the World history of dictators more than I do about people that hunt.

Moron sorry excuse me your name is Morrissey you are an idiot. Hunting animals has been way of life forever you knock the duck dynasty guys for killing animals why dont you knock your ancestors because chances are they had to hunt to survive unless you did not have ancestors and came from space I would say if you call yourself a man why dont you contact the guys from duck dynasty and meet the face to face but you probably will not do that
