Kate Gosselin brings in record 'Wife Swap' ratingsKate Gosselin's still got it. The mom of eight recently starred in an episode of ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap" with another reality star mom, Kendra Wilkinson, and their edition brought in record ratings.
The season 2 premiere, which aired on Tuesday, was watched by 7 million, a 4 percent increase over the last season opener of "Celebrity Wife Swap," ABC says. Ratings were up in the 18-49 demographic by 6 percent, giving the episode the best numbers in the show's history. In the episode, now single mom Gosselin switched places with former "Girls Next Door" star Wilkinson, a Playboy cover girl who's mom to four-year-old "Little" Hank, her son with husband Hank Baskett. Gosselin was tasked with trying to adjust to Wilkinson's more laid-back parenting style, while Wilkinson was challenged with watching over Gosselin's brood of eight. For her part, Gosselin made the most of being a temporary mom of one. “It feels great to relax. This is what I’ve been missing,” she said. “I am very focused on my kids, and maybe I do need to step away a bit and start dating.” Wilkinson, on the other hand, learned why structure can be important in parenting. "It made me realize if I can do it with eight kids," she said, "I can do it with one." |

Gosselin didn't bring in the ratings, the kids did. The eight kids were the best part of this show as well as the former tv show, Kate was tolerable at best.
Why does everyone commenting hate her so much? She is raising eight children!! And her house was clean, children were clean and well behaved. I can't imagine such a task! How many of these commenters have tried to keep eight children in line, feed them, bathe them, clothe them, clean up after them and make sure they get their homework done? Yes she's a bit cold but she has to be in order to keep up and have her house not be chaos. Without a schedule, she wouldn't be able to get anything done. She is teaching her children good values of hard work and organization!!! The comments say she is "judgemental" but everyone here is judging her! Also of course she is doing things for publiciity to make money!!! She has to provide for her family. She can't possibly take care of eight children and hold a traditional job. If someone would pay you to be on tv, do interview, or write books, who in their right mind wouldn't? Especially if you had eight children that needed to be provided for?

I agree, if everyone hates Kate so much why did the show have the highest ratings EVER? Couldn't have been to see Kendra. All you need is a playboy magazine for that.
I'd like to address a few remarks made here. #1 Kate no longer has nannies. She has sitters who come over and take care of the children when she has to be away. #2 There was money put into trust for every single child. Plus the lovely home they live in was paid for by Kate and John's share of their earnings from the show. Each child has a 'college fund', plus a trust.
Kate is no fool she knows how to manage the money she has coming in. Of course she does interviews, makes appearances, she takes just about anything she is offered (except posing for playboy, although we've all seen her in her bikini, and she clearly has the body for it. If she had, so what? Isn't that how Kendra makes her money, showing off her body?) Yes she does reality shows. Money is money and there are bills to be paid. It's for certain she can't count on dumb-bo Jon to help provide for the children. Even though he has a college degree he can't seem to hold down a job.
Yes, she's difficult. Demanding. Strict. She's a single Mother. Handling eight children is no day at the park. Most can't handle two or three (clearly Kendra can't handle even one without the 'nannies'..)
I admire Kate. She's taken the hand life dealt her and is making the best of it. She doesn't have to be perfect. She doesn't have to be nice. She doesn't have to live up to anyone's standards. Her children are healthy, clean, well dressed, understand the meaning of chores, and the concept of working to earn their allowance. Imagine that.
I'm sure in about ten years one of the twins will come out with a 'tell all' book. And then another one will 'tell' her side. But the only people who really know how their life is, are the nine people who live there.
Hate her if you wish, but even in these difficult times she's providing for her family.

Kate was Awesome on this show. Kate just proves that not everyone has the gift to raise a large group of children and keep them in line. I have one child and it's very hard. The lord must have known that Kate could handle all these kids, so he blessed her with so many children. God Bless Kate!

Are you sure Kate was the ratings draw? I watched the show, but mainly to see Kendra Wilkinson juggle 8 kids and to get a closer look at kendra's cute husband. I didn't look at it to see Kate.

I didn't watch but if I wasn't busy I would have watched for the Kids. I can not stand Kate I always liked John better. If I was him I would have bolted from that marrige long before I had 8 kids.

I only watched the show to see Kendra. How can they say that it is due to Kate that the show had high ratings? They don't know if it was Kate or Kendra that had the most fans. Kate has a lot of structure to help her control her children, but I agree with Kendra that sometimes you need to just give up the rules and allow the kids to be kids. In addition, Kate thought it was wrong for Little Hank to be at daycare, and she implied it was because Kendra wanted time to herself and is selfish. I know a lot of people who send their kids to daycare at that age to allow them to grow their social skills so that they will be ready for school later. Kendra was very particular about the school she chose for Little Hank. He is her world.
Instead of spending a lot of money on herself (like spas, facelifts, nails, hair, tanning, expensive shoes, outfits and beauty supplies, travels, gyms, bodyguard, cars, etc...), Kate Gosselin should take her oldest daughters to a dermatologist. Man, those two girls have their faces full of acne, pustules and zits. A responsible mother should pay attention to that kind of thing instead of just worrying about her own appearance. When I was around their age, as soon as I got some zits, my mom took me to a dermatologist and really taught me how to take care of my face and all. I'm so glad she did that, because it really helped my self-esteem during my teenage years. If Kate doesn't want to give up the cash she spends with her appearance, she should at least take the girls to a public hospital that provides free consultation or whatever. Just do something. She brags a lot about being a hands on mom, but the kids look like they look after themselves most of the time. She is too stressed out looking after herself. Kate needs to pay more attention to their needs and guide them, instead of barking orders and act emotionally distant all the time.
Wow, I love the posts here. Maybe I watched a different show. I guess I did. Granted this was not going to win any Emmys but Kate Gosselin could probably give a lot of parents I know a lot of advice on how to raise their kids. At least she doesn't beg her kids to please stop doing this or please stop doing that (God I hate that) and gives them structure in their lives (which kids want and crave). Maybe she doesn't take time out for herself (she admitted that) but the kids come first which does not happen in a lot of parent's lives.
I will leave this note by saying one thing. You try raising 8 kids by yourself. Just try it. Then you can post all the hate mail you want. Most of you cannot raise one or two kids successfully. Nuff said.

I saw pictures on the Internet where Kate is beating her kid up and in a very violent manner. At some point, even the police was called. That being said, I think having 8 kids is stressful, but an adult should be able to control him/herself before decide to physically attack them.

One of the show's message was: if you don't want to be stressed out, then have just 1 kid (like Kendra) rather than 8. But if you happen to have 8, then raise them without complaining on national television how they're a burden, how it's so difficult to raise them, how the cost to have them is so expensive, blah, blah, blah. She still didn't get that public is not interesting in them anymore. People don't like the way Kate Gosselin bullies her own children. I understand there are parents like you who supports tooth and nails the screaming, yelling and beating methods used by Kate Gosselin. They brag their children is well-behaved, when in reality they are quiet because they are just terrified to see the whip at any given moment. Her kids look like those torture survivors, lost, robot like, emotional scarred. If I were one of her kiddos (so glad I'm not), I'd feel extremely embarrassing in watching my mom chasing free TV appearances, using me and my siblings as cash cow and make the family looking ridiculous on national television. Just a personal note: my mom was more like Kendra and my aunt, her sister, was more like Kate in terms of educating their children. Fast forward: now my sister and I are both doctors, love our mom to death, raise our children well, and are very happy. My cousins? One is an alcoholic, the other is a drug addict and the youngest one beats my aunt up without mercy. They hate their mother with a passion. As the kid gets old and free, they either get back at the perpetrator or they go to the path of self-destruction. Very sad.

CNN should be careful in not losing its credibility. Nowadays, when a media source publish something like this that is incorrect, the public opinion will straighten it out right on the spot. In my opinion, Kate Gosselin was in no way the reason why the show did good. This article looks more like something that someone from Kate's camp send out to the media, which was clearly a way to manipulate the public opinion. Looks like Kate tried to sabotage Kendra's future works by saying that she was the one who brought in the good ratings. At the end of the day we all know that the success was due mostly because of Kendra. The funny thing is that ABC made tons of money, Kendra has lots of works and will be alright and Kate probably worked for free, got nothing and embarrassed the hell out of her children. Thanks to mom, the Gosselin kids are now the school's laughing-stock.

I watched ... to see Kendra. Personally, I can't stand what's-her-face. I found it heartbreaking to see the high anxiety in all of those children (who were not Little Hank.) Kate just can't hide that nasty personality of hers.

Love Kendra, she was responsible for the high ratings. As for Kate, as soon as her kids reach an older age, I'm sure they'll be all on drugs to be able to deal with a mother like that. One thing is being a disciplinarian parent. Another thing is being an authoritarian, cold parent. Kendra's word (crying): "I felt so bad to see those kids working so much at such young age". I felt bad too. Another thing I didn't get was the fact that Gosselin was angry at Kendra's in having a housekeeper and yet Kendra didn't condemn Kate for having a bodyguard full time. If I was Hank, I would definitely prefer to have a housekeeper taking care of my house than a bodyguard tailing my wife the way Kate's bodyguard does. No wonder her husband left her. I would've too.
Totally with you on this, Mark. That Gosselin woman can have a nanny and a housekeeper if she is willing to give up that salt and pepper bodyguard. Kendra has the maid to help her family, while that Kathy or Kelly Gosselin or whatever her name is, prefers to have a bodyguard just for herself.

I agree – KG's kids looked miserable and the pity-party Kate gives herself – oh plaaaaeeese! She never gets time to herself just to relax? What about the fake nails, the tanning, and the hair extensions? I'm sure she's not dragging those 8 kids with her. I think her kids did look miserable when she got back – they were like little minions! Totally scared of Kate – did you see the looks she gave Little Hank? He's a baby for crying outloud – discipline sure, but she could also give some love, which I didn't see.

I agree, my friend. Me too, I didn't even know who that old lady was. She sounded very boring and in no way she was responsible for the high ratings. No wonder she has no show. Kendra on the other hand, with a lot of projects coming up, was the Kendra we all love: witty, funny, lovely.

I hate to say this, but as much as I dislike Kate Gosslin, I don't think she abuses her children. I think too many parents these days do not know how to discipline their children. Being a parent requires one to be harsh at times and soft at times. I love my kids but If they are misbehaving they know I am going to correct their behavior. When I do, I do not care who is listening or who is watching, what's to hide? I would much rather be known for being a parent that makes my children behave, then one who just let's my children run wild and be unruly little brats. I get so sick of people letting their children spoil people's meals at restaurants, interupt others when they are watching a movie or attending an event in public, and the worst ever parents who let their kids run wild in stores. I think showing your children how to behave is and giving them consequences for their bad behavior is just as important as kisses and hugs. I dislike Kate because she uses the fact that she popped out eight kids as her claim to fame. She has nothing more to offer until she does something truly spectacular, while the kids are awesome, they just can't be her meal ticket forever. At some point she will have to be a useful member of society again. She is no better than a mother on welfare, foodstamps, and medicaid. She offers nothing to society.

The success for Celeb Wife Swap is attributed to Kendra's followers. Kate's viewing numbers were barely a ripple in the 7 million viewers the show had.

From a mans view kate is so not what men like – Shes like living with your mother- only your mother is nicer!
I have never been so disgusted in my life. Once again Kate is taking all the credit, it's all about Kate. Of course her kids are well behaved, because they are afraid of the consequences, they are scared to death of her. She claims she don't get any time for herself, well what about her tanning sessions, manicures and pedicures, and don't forget all the trips to New York for her hair and nights out with her bodyguard. If you watched any past episodes at all with her yelling at Jon and the kids, I can imagine what it;s like when the cameras are'nt rolling. If you choose to be fooled by this woman, you are just as delusinal as she is. She is getting all this bad publicity,so now she claims to have changed,she just wants what Kendra has.

I never watched this show before, but admit I did watch this episode out of curiosity. Not a Kate fan, but I have to say that I think Kendra should have waited until she did not want to still party and hang out before becoming a parent. That nightlife thing has to somewhat take a backseat once you choose to become a parent. She is fortunate to have such an understanding spouse and a great childcare assistant.
KENDRA is a stupid, stupid girl. It is the only word to use because she acts like a young girl. She should not have had 1 child never-the-less ever have any more!!! I'm glad to see on People today that she doesn't want any more because it will interfere with her "social life". Talk about being a baby!
More kudos to KG for being an actual "parent" instead of being like KW by having a nanny, a housekeeper and her husband doing everything so she can remain useless
Kate has that help, too – and also a special laundry person and a "homework helper". She just won't admit it unless cornered because she wants everyone to think she does it all by herself or else she loses what false tiny fraction of notoriety she has left. At least Kendra is open about it so while I might not agree with her choices, I have to respect her honesty. Unlike Kate.

UH, what makes you think it Kate Gosselin? Maybe it was Kendra? And probably the kids, like an update? I'm prretty sure it wasn't her alone. Everything she's done on her own has failed, but not so for Kendra and the kids would of course draw interest. Who's pushing you to promote her?
I was thinking the same thing. I didn't watch the show, but if I did, I would be more interested in seeing those 8 kids to see how they turned out. I don't think Kate Gosselin had anything to do with the rating numbers.
