Anne Hathaway apologizes to Valentino for Oscars PradaA lot of fashion fans were expecting to see Anne Hathaway in Valentino at the Oscars and were caught off guard when she arrived wearing pale pink Prada instead. It was a noticeable switch, given Hathaway's frequent reliance on Valentino - her wedding gown was custom-made by the fashion house - as well as the fact that the label sent out a press release about her dress pre-Oscars.
Hathaway, 30, told E!'s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that it had been a last-minute decision. The Prada gown, which some found highlighted a certain part of her anatomy, was "the one that spoke to me in the end," Hathaway said. What she didn't say at the time was that her switcheroo was brought on by the possibility of another actress wearing a dress similar to her original Valentino number. “It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans," the best supporting actress Oscar winner told Women's Wear Daily in a statement. "Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”

Those are very poorly made darts and a haute couture house should do a better job. Many of the red carpet gowns do not fit properly.
Only morons who have no clue about design think those were her nips. They're idiotically placed darts and frankly, Miuccia Prada should have been taken out behind the studio and shot for that one. A horrifying pink apron. She should have gone with the Valentino even if it looked similar to the McQueen gown her friend wore.

I'd be more concerned for the ever increasing acceptability of stick figure actresses then what they're wearing. It's not her dress that looks weird, it's her body. The camera puts on ten pounds and even with that, this woman looks painfully thin. Ah well who cares as long as the masses are entertained.

OoooEEE. Anne looked so lovely that I came in for a quick look around. And hear nothing but the hissing of snakes! What a nasty, writhing little vipers nest. You know, there is a lovely world above ground, full of light and kindness and joy, if you can manage to evolve up out of your dark little holes. Glad to be able to turn and go myself.

I cringe every time she talks. The pretentiousness, it's too much. So into herself.
You people are really mean. she is someone's daughter, someone's sister, shes a person. you would never say these things to her face. you all need to look in the mirror at your flaws before you crudely start bashing other people. Not that i've ever met her but she seems so nice and sweet and obvisously talented and all you can focus on is her looks- which btw- i think are flawless. she's gorgeous. her warm eyes and huge inviting smile. i dont know what any of you look like but im seeing a bit of what your heart looks like and its very ugly. thats why she is a star and youre at home judging the stars.
She's also someones toothpick and a teenage girls reason to vomit after every meal. Grow a pair.

She is pale and nasty looking with a big nose. The worst thing she could have ever done is cut her hair. She needs to grow it back as quickly as possible
I find those on here criticising her hair and weight childish. I guess none of you bothered to see Les Miserables. She had her hair cut in one of the parts of the movie, and had to lose excessive weight for her part as a starving homeless mother. Maybe before you sling mud, you should learn the facts.
@Julie: I've already pointed it out once but I'll do so again... They finished shooting last JUNE, that would be 8 months ago minimum. (don't know how late into the filming schedule she worked) The excuse that she had to lose weight just doesn't hold up 2/3 of a year later.
I've waited to comment....but really wouldn't matter. It's Friday, and I really don't care what she wore on Sunday – yeah it looked like trash or grandma's napkin on a pencil, she enjoys the attention, and expected to win. I don't think she will match Oscar worthiness of Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Taylor or Bette Davis.

I was not fond of this dress, but you are all insane to complain about her weight. First she had to loose weight and tone up for cat woman and then she had to loose even more to play the very part she got the oscar for. And we aren't talking lose a few pounds but lose a LOT, enough to look sickly. This is not something someone should do btw, but she did for the sake of the role and she got an oscar out of it. It will take some time for her to -safely- put back on weight. Not to mention gain back muscle tone, and that is not considering what other roles she may be offered that she may have to consider her body image for. Actors that put their bodies through this sort of turmoil pay the price in that they might not rebound so quick as you might like, which is also why we so so few females willing to do it. I applaud her for being willing to do so. Hugh Jackman is now facing the same taxing role of having to retrain from being near starved, to going back to playing the part of wolverine, these are NOT easy things to put your body through and yet they do it. None of us have any right to complain unless we are willing to do same!
I once read a remark somewhere that most women resemble either a bird or a horse. Anne is a horse, teeth and all...
For those comments regarding her gaunt face and body - it's because she had to lose such a great amount of weight for the role of Fantine, and she has been gaining slowly....

Rachel Zoe got her the dress after she freaked out that Amanda Segfreid was going to wear one very similar to the Valentino one she was slated to wear. AH didn't stand a chance with Zoe, the nut job, as her stylist. The woman is such a control freak and does not have innate good taste. Prada is very avant garde and futuristic. What was she thinking to sway from a classic designer like Valentino. I hope he never offers her another dress again. Still it's her own fault for trying to out do everyone else.

If anyone should apologize it should be Prada. The Oscars have an enormous global audience. Anne Hathaway was not part of the faceless rabble walking the red carpet. She was a nominee. To offer her a gown that was over designed and poorly executed is inexcusable. Prada owes an apology to her.

Anne would look beautiful in any gown she wore, she is a wonderful and talented actress. Saw her in a small independent film called Rache's Wedding, and my hubby is also a fan. AH is awesome!!

I'm going to sleep better tonight knowing this debacle is finally over. It's been weighing VERY heavily on my mind ever since the Oscars. Thank you, Anne Hathaway, for your bravery in addressing such an important social justice cause as the clashing of formal evening wear.
