The end to Beyonce-gate, in five reactions

Well, at least we know the answer to the biggest question surrounding the Super Bowl: Yes, Beyonce will "absolutely" sing live during the halftime show.

The singer said as much Thursday after showing the world that yes, she can also sing the "Star Spangled Banner" live, when she wants to.

It was a fitting conclusion to Beyonce-gate, which shook some people to their core. Here, we recap Bey's admission with five reactions - feel free to share your own in the comments below:

Singers used to lip sync anytime they needed to give their voices a rest but still needed to perform. It costs money to change times and dates of venues and for large concerts, fans often get alienated if a show is canceled even if they are refunded the entire amount. It is amazing how much feeling people put into supposed "concerts" when really we go to see the singer and see the dancing–if you need their voices to be "live" to enjoy it–how silly–the first we hear ANY song is usually RECORDED anyway. The irony is that we act like we expect authenticity in singers, when actors roles are dubbed and redubbed, a lot of people have fake nails, hair, lips, butts, etc. and the majority of people have something about themselves that is enhanced with tattoos, piercings, make up–you name it. so what is the problem? if she lip synced the inauguration, it probably was due to her voice not being optimal–and since the date CANNOT BE CHANGED–she had to go forward, or bow out at the last minute or sing badly and have everyone talking about THAT instead of about the President's speech.

The thing about a hater is that they are a jealous person who will find some way to bring the object of their envy down, no matter what they do. She was there. She lip synced a song–I did not watch the inauguration or the super bowl stuff–but hope Beyoncé's fans (I'm not a fan of hers) loved her performances–and haters need to get lives and grow up.

In my opinion, this will be remembered as the most boring halftime show. No production value. Boring music. Dull moves. It left me with nothing.

Good times and bum times, I've seen them all and, my dear,
    I'm still here!
    Gold statue sometimes,
    Sometimes a kick-in-the-rear, but I'm here
Now one day you're hailed for blazing trails
    Next you're nailed for fingernails
Either they cheer or they jeer, but I'm here
I've heard them say song writing, acting, producing,
What makes her think that she can? Or better yet song writing, acting, producing
What does she think, she's a man?
One day a Tony, Tuesday you're top of the Bill
    So I'm here!
Wednesday you're phony, Thursday you're over the hill
    But I'm here!
Now I've kept my clothes and kept me space
I've kept my nose to spite my face
Still once you say you won't
Keep your place loud and clear
Once you announce you're directing all you hear is...
Everybody says don't, everybody says don't
Everybody says don't, it isn't right!
    Don't, it isn't nice!
    Everybody says don't, everybody says...
Don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter,
Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter,
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade.
Don't tell me not to fly, I've simply got to, If someone takes a spill,
    it's me and not you,
Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade
I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir,
    I guess I didn't make it
Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a-comin'
    I simply gotta march, my heart's a-drummin'
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade,
I'm gonna live and live NOW!
Get what I want, I know how!
One roll for the whole shebang!
One throw that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target and wham,
One shot, one gun shot and bam!
Hey, look at me world, here I am...
I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir,
    I guess I didn't make it
Get ready for me life, 'cause I'm a-comin'
    I simply gotta march, my heart's a-drummin'
Nobody, no, nobody, is gonna rain on my parade!

  18. Define 'Hater"

FYI, A 'hater' is any individual who expresses a negative opinion on anything. Don't like tomatoes? You're a hater. Not into Lil Wayne's music? You're a hater. Judging Beyonce for pretending to sing? Hater. Not a fan of President Obama's policies? Yep, you better believe you're a hater. Your waiter brought you a well done steak instead of med-rare? Don't send it back, that would make you a hater.

I have said this before but it bears repeating. It is not about Beyonce she most likely is a very capable singer. It is how ever about a society that is weaned on smoke and mirrors, the singers don't actually perfom the pieces, the pictures are all retouched, the speaches are all edited and spun, the speakers don't write their speaches, the speakers don't speak from the soul but from a teleprompter, the music is produced by a computer not musicians, nothing is real anymore and that is a huge loss for society and an injustice to those cought up in this big web of lies.

Who has it been all about now? If there's so much to risk, then she's never a full performing artist who knows how to be ready. Did she remember how glorious she felt after her song? 'haha i pulled it through and im perfect, glorify me' lol. Rewind the tapes. Better to take time with her dress n hair/makeup rather than her performance i guess. Damage done, you've been found.

So we know two things: 1) She can perform under the conditions she dictates. 2) She can't perform under adverse conditions that the older generation of artists could perform under. That makes her a recording artist, not a performance artist. Your new idols have half the ability and talent as what came before them. Those who accept her as the best of the best have simply lowered the bar. Nice going, America. I can neither sing nor perform, however my commentary isn't contingent upon equal talent, only that I have a keyboard and a mind that doesn't accept the dumbing down of this and subsequent generations.

What adverse conditions are you refering to? She did perform, singing over a prerecorded track is still singing live, you do realize that? Like you said before you're not a singer so you don't know what you don't know, stop commenting on what you don't know. Makes you look asinine at best. Talent wise, Beyonce is as good or better than any singer you can try to dig up from the past. Modern technology has it's advantages.

Except that she didn't sing. She moved her lips over a pre-recorded voice. And she made very dramatic and body, all while moving lips without a sound. However, she was called upon to sing in front of the nation, not to move lips, so it was a rather low cheating.

she didnt sound good at all. AVG voice and an avg singer. She has no range or life in her voice. I'm not even sure why this is up for debate . Its quite obvious that she is a C level singer at best . If A category is whitney , gladys , barbara , mariah and B level is Aguilerra, alicia keys , jennifer hudson. Then there maybe be room but barley in the C category for Beyonce . She sings like a 12 year old who has had no life experience – very little weight and substance in her voice.

Nobody ever doubted she can sing in a nice warm controlled environment! My problem was that she chose a historical event to lip-sync rather than do what a woman twice her age did just four years before SING LIVE!!! Aretha Franklin sang that very song live four years ago and she is ELDERLY!!! It was much colder than when Beyoncé sang and she did it like a pro! Granny schooled that yongin! Beyoncé missed an opportunity to go down in history as a hard working professional performer who will and can perform in any condition. Instead she will be forever known as a pampered DIVA who will only preform if the conditions are prefect for her sensitivies!

...Awwww, what's wrong?? because some of us hold her to being a true "professional" and are upset with the fact she lip-synched, now we are racists?? Just like how the people who didn't vote for Obama are racists?? People like yourself already have their mind made up BEFORE anyone even speaks!! Go back to your liberal troll-hole and go join another flock of sheep.... the only racist here is YOU......

I am Black and I did not vote for Obama in the 2012 election. I voted for Mitt Romney. I am a registered Republican since 2006.

Also, I am reading through the comments and I honestly have not seen any racism directed towards Beyonce. A lot of people, White and Black alike, are just sick of the fraud that Beyonce is perpertrating. I know I am. She has railroaded a lot of people because she is operating within the confines of a untreated mental illnesses in the forms of narcissism and manic depression. She has put herself out there to be picked apart. She should not have sang this song acapella and solidified her legacy as a mediocre singer with a career full of smoke and mirrors. She needs to kick rocks and bite bricks.

The argument wasn't that she -couldn't- sing, the argument was that she -didn't- sing.
I'm happy that she could effortlessly recite the song to a group of reporters. I can do the same thing in the shower.
Doing either in front of the whole country is a much bigger deal, and if she felt she couldn't do it,then she shouldn't have taken the gig. Period.
They didn't ask her to do a friggin' concert at the inauguration, they asked her to do -one- song,a short one at that.
I like and mostly respect her,but on this, she doesn't get a pass from me.

I'd prefer Mrs. Nessbaum's Third Grade class from Podunk, Idaho singing live over any (any) artist doing milli vanilli. I'm just tired of the National Anthem being used as a performance piece to showcase an (any) "artist". Prefer my Anthem being sung by a huge, America-lovin crowd of people all misty-eyed as they sing.

This is so not news worthy. While I personally believe that Beyonce is quite an entertainer, she sings in a limited range. Nonetheless this doesn't mean that she can't sing the Star Spangled Banner. I was driving home the other day, when a breaking news story came over the radio. - "Was there another school shooting?", I thought to myself. How about another national or international crisis? Not exactly. The top story was Beyonce lip syncing to her our pre-recording at the Presidential Inauguration. And then there was more time spent by Beyonce to answer to her critics. Can we please move on? Stop making it more than what it really is TMZ et al. Were not talking Milli Vanill here. The fact is she really can sing, but becauseof several negagtive conditions she chose not to sing live. Peronally, I think its understandable. Who would want to take a chance and mess up the President's inauguration? How do you live something like that down? - The truth is, no one can. You would always be remember as the person who messed it up. So let the woman be and let's talk about things that are more important and news worthy.

Sorry,but...if she is a "professional",how badly could she have possibly "messed up" the Star Spangled Banner?
I'd rather hear her hit a bad note (if I even recognized it at that) and sing live than to hear her press -play- on a boom box and fake it like she did.

Can she sing? Yes. Were we cheated? Yes.

I don't expect live performance to have a studio quality. If she wasn't up for it, she should've passed the opportunity to somebody who was.

    • Cheated?

You were cheated by a pre-recorded national anthem? Are you also cheated by people passing you on the high way? What world do you live in. You must have a sad life if the disappointment of realizing a performance is pre-recorded makes you feel cheated.

An over-exposed singer with an ego the size of New York who is made out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread makes news because she ACTUALLY f-ing sang instead of lip synching??!!
Seriously – if people cared this much and made this big a deal out of things that ACTUALLY MATTER – think about what could be accomplished!!!

Much worse than her lip synching, which Brittney Spears and many others do at their concerts, is she is notorious for not paying her bills to the people that make her video's. She has stiffed a couple of people I know. So if you're up for working with her on a project, know that you will not be paid at the end, or you will be paid a fraction of what you are promised.

Big deal. She already proved that she's a poser and a fake by lip synching in the first place.

She is a fake and a farce and now she is trying to redeem herself by really singing? In another month or two after it all blows over, she'll be back to doing what she does best, faking it to a tape like most so called musicians do now.

What bothers me the most is the fact that she thinks we're questioning her abilities as a singer. I don't give a crap whether she can sing or not. She was pretending to sing the National Anthem. It should be an HONOR to sing the National Anthem, not a performance. You don't need talent to sing the Anthem to our Country. I am so disgusted with her.

@Justin – so you don't need talent to sing the Nat'l Anthem. Then please tell me why Rosanne Barr was practically ambushed when she sang it. Your comment is a bit naive.

What bothers me is too many people ignorantly think that she didn't sing. She did – she sang along to a pre-recording of her singing the song. The people around her could hear her but since you weren't there, you feel the need to say something? Shame on you. As a professional, she choose to do this because she did not want to just show up and sing with a band she hasn't practiced with before. It was her choice. She's not your every day singer – if she wanted to hold a note for an extended period of time and the band continued without holding as well, we'd be commenting on something entirely different.

I'm not even a fan of hers. I'm just getting sick and tired of people "hating" and judging others which spreads negative energy around. As a non-American, I see how this negative energy is spreading.... good luck with the new wars that your people are about to join/start in 3.... 2.... 1....

    I have a 6th reaction for her:

REAL MUSICIANS don't need a pre-recording to.....you know....perform music? REAL MUSICIANS don't need to actually sing a song (which I thought was her occupation) as a reaction to being criticized for not doing the same. REAL MUSICIANS know how to play a MUSICal instrument.
