NBC grabs modern-day 'Hatfields & McCoys' pilot

We'd heard over the summer that Charlize Theron was in the process of developing a more contemporary take on "Hatfields & McCoys," and it seems like her effort is one step closer to airing on TV.

According to Deadline, NBC has ordered a pilot of the modern-day version of the infamous feud, which was created by "Eagle Eye's" John Glenn and produced by Theron.

Set in Pittsburgh, the drama will follow the working class McCoys as they move to take control over the city, potentially endangering the Hatfields power and wealth along the way. A death will set off the feud once again in the present day.

Word spread that the updated "Hatfields" was in consideration after the History Channel aired its TV miniseries version last spring, which was a massive hit for the network. When the first night of "Hatfields & McCoys" aired in late May, it was watched by 13.9 million.

Unsurprisingly, the History Channel is now eyeing a reality show version of "Hatfields & McCoys," focusing on the descendants.

First of all, Pittsburgh is spelled with an "h" at the end. Try teaching spelling in Kentucky. Perhaps, in an attempt to contemporize the setting, they though they would move it out of the backwoods and into a city. You've heard of cities, right? They are where most Americans live.

Why would you want to film in Pittsburg? The Hatfield-McCoy heratige is in East Kentucky and West Virginia. Why not stick to the same grounds that the original families once owned? This makes no sense. As a resident of East Kentucky, I find it offensive you want to manulipate our heratige into something it wasn't/isn't for the sake of profit!

I totally agree with you. Film it where it happened and bring some needed money to the area. It's beautiful back there.
