'Boy Meets World' spinoff finds its 'Girl'

The Disney Channel has found the right "Girl" for the job.

Rowan Blanchard, 11, has been cast as Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga, on the "Boy Meets World" spinoff "Girl Meets World."

As previously reported, Blanchard's character will be the star of the show, much in the same way Cory Matthews was the star of the original beloved '90s sitcom.

Producer Michael Jacobs told Entertainment Weekly that Blanchard, who has appeared in "The Back-Up Plan" and "Spy Kids: All The Time in the World 4D," was a clear pick during the nationwide hunt for talent.

"As soon as Rowan walked into the room, I was reminded of why Ben Savage was loved as Cory Matthews,” he said. “Rowan is real and accessible, and I am hopeful this girl is about to meet a world that will love growing up with her as well.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, a pilot for the spinoff comedy will begin production next month. If it made it to series, it would be part of the Disney Channel's 2013-2014 schedule.

Both Danielle Fishel, who portrayed Topanga on the original series, and Ben Savage, who portrayed Cory, are on board to return. But Rider Strong, who played Cory's best friend, the leather-clad Shawn Hunter, has said that he doesn't have "any official involvement" with the show.

“There might be a chance to see some of the 'BMW' cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years,” Strong said in November. “But ‘Girl Meets World’ will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters.”

Congrats to Rowan. She was great in Spy Kids. I am an old fan of the show and look forward to its arrival. There can be no doubt that this show will take off, even surpassing the original.Too bad Rider is not onboard. I think Rowan's character would benefit from the occasional wisdom of her "Uncle Shawn". Come on, Rider! Come back!

She's a cutie, but she doesn't look to me like she'd be the biological daughter of the actors playing her parents.

I don't know ... she looks like she could be the daughter of a "Topanga". Maybe the woman playing that mom part should look more like the ethnicity they are trying to pull in to the show.

She's trying to hide her true bully self by wearing an anti-bullying logo. I've got this kid figured out.

I hope it goes with the first few seasons formula. When Corey was exploring the world, it was realistic. Towards the end, it became the same formula of how all the men were stupid (Corey became an idiot, and his brother worse) and were the stereotypical men in a sitcom of doing whatever their wives wanted. It was a great show, then turned into mediocrity the last few seasons.
If it goes back to its roots, it could be a decent show.
Just a humble opinion, grew up with the show, so yeah, it was gross towards the end.

Wow, can't believe the comments on here about an 11 year old. Makes me wonder how old you all are making such mean spirited comments about a little girl. Doesn't matter, you've just showed your maturity level. I think she is adorable and the show will be a hit.

I'd be seriously scared of her if she was in my class. Maybe she's nice though.
