Matt Damon takes over 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

One constant of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" has been the host's ongoing "feud" with Matt Damon.

Every night, Kimmel apologizes for bumping Damon off the show because "we ran out of time."

Damon got some revenge years ago, but until Thursday was never an official guest on his show. Last night, Damon turned the tables on Kimmel by tying him up and taking over as host.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOHeLc7g6iI%5D

Thus began what was essentially a star-studded roast of Kimmel, with Damon as the emcee. It was also a mini-"Good Will Hunting" reunion when Robin Williams showed up to help Damon with his monologue.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtVPbUwtsM0%5D

Cue card guy Ben Affleck, however, just couldn't betray Kimmel.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGeqX-OBo0Q%5D

Meanwhile, Damon replaced sidekick Guillermo and band leader Cleto Escobedo III with Andy Garcia and Sheryl Crow (who debuted a new song on the show).

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAvuQktUq9w%5D

Guests like Nicole Kidman (a first-time Kimmel guest), Gary Oldman, Amy Adams and Demi Moore told Damon how much they despised Kimmel.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaabViByqj4%5D

But it wouldn't have been true revenge unless Kimmel's ex Sarah Silverman showed up.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQukT8JKie8%5D

It was definitely a memorable hour of television, and Kimmel and Damon deserve some kind of award for keeping the "feud" going for a decade.

What did you think of the show? Post a video or comment below. And enjoy this video of Kimmel auditioning for Damon's past roles:

Thanks for your article. Another item is that being photographer will involve not only issues in recording award-winning photographs but also hardships in acquiring the best digital camera suited to your needs and most especially struggles in maintaining the caliber of your camera. This is very correct and clear for those photography fans that are in to capturing this nature's engaging scenes – the mountains, the actual forests, the wild or the seas. Going to these daring places undoubtedly requires a digicam that can surpass the wild's tough natural environment.

Can't stand Damon as he was part of the "assault McCain/Palin" crowd, some of which still exists today. This is in addition to his unpatriotic view of why people join the military. It is no wonder why he ran away as quick as possible from Obama during Obama's second term campaigning, his movie ratings were plunging. No respect for the man as a person or as an actor, both equally horrible.

I have a bad feeling you truly are serious about this. For your own health you should leave the "assault Palin/McCain crowd" thing behind. Take it how you want, but I have a nickel's worth of free advice from my own experience. If you don't like celebrities because of their political views I can understand and respect that, but it isn't worth letting it get to you. Hollywood is 95% liberal by nature and if one can't cope with that then one might as well shut off the TV. While I too have my frustrations with celebrities and their views toward politics I learned in the 90's (right around when the movie "Primary Colors" came out) that it just isn't worth it. Hollywood is a fantasy land. I suggest watching movies and shows for entertainment only and appreciate time away from reality. Once back to reality, then we can face the same ole' same ole' in Washington. I'm a middle of the road person in politics but I can definitely see how it can be frustrating. Hope this helps.

Anyone who can't understand that Palin needs to be ridiculed for idiocy is deserving of their own ridicule. Right Wing crybabies deserve no quarter for the abused they have foisted upon this nation. The leasers of the revolution should have them all against the wall, in another context.

What a great bit. I never watch Kimmel even though I don't mind the guy, but last night's show really stepped up. A great bit. Anyone who thinks it wasn't funny because many of the people on it weren't slap-your-knee funny missed the point completely.

Verrry cleverly done. I was waiting for the bit to be over after a few minutes....couldn't believe they'd pull this off for the entire show. It's interesting how comments here don't much talk about the way the show was done, but about how much everyone seems to HATE someone. Woo-hoo! The more people we can trash, the better. Guess that's our culture, though, and we've come to expect it, sadly.

While I am not a Matt Damon fan or one for late night TV, I did watch. My wife came across th show just as Damon wheeled Jimmy out all tied up with duct tape and a tie in his mouth. That was funny enough alone given the "history" of the two. So we watched and laughed repeatedly. The show was funny, fresh, different and outside the box for a late night tv show. Did I mention it was funny? Particularly Andy Garcia as Damon's sidekick.

David Letterman and Jay Leno could take a lesson or two from that show last night. Not that I would watch, but they could learn something about real comedy. It was on display on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.

If Damon and Williams were to take over the show for real, I'd watch it.

They cut the Robin Williams clip short. It ended on the air with him giving the tied up Kimmel a lap dance.

Love Kimmel's show. I find his show much fresher with more innovative humor segments and monologue than Leno or Letterman's.

Great late night tv by talented group of people. Damon great sense of timing. To another point about kimmel which needs to be aired upfront. He has a lot brass cajones to bad mouth leno constantly. First to address his pathetic sappy pleading few years ago when threat of possible leno move to abc late night show or rumor of letterman shift to abc network. If either happened he would be on backwater late night cable or self produced you tube video at best! He is so second tier late night comic. He will never attain leno letterman status with his childish sophmoric humor. Overuse of constant family and friends routine nice charity work but sad amateur hour at best! Craig ferguson jimmy fallon jon stewart steve colbert blow him away as hot talent for now and future shows! A b c made big mistake moving him to 11;30pm. Should have made nightline 1 hour show in ted koppel version and put kimmel at 12:30pm if at all. Still strong demand for serious news show on network tv of world and national affairs. Just my view!

Really really enjoyed this whole ending to their feud. The use of Kimmel being tied up and his faces to Damon's jibes was wonderful. Looking forward to more shows with Kimmel. I have only watched him occassionally through the years and enjoy the family friendly banter. Thank you for a creative and very different late night show. Disappointed that the Sarah Silverman video does not come up on line.

A growing number of us are convinced that Sarah Palin is the only one who can heal and re-unify our country. But first she must return to her motorhome and resume her cross country tour. She will have to visit cities both large and small, being careful to speak only to real Americans, dispensing her sage advice and folksy, homespun common sense solutions. We can be a great nation again if we all follow the "Palin Path".

I quit watching late night tv because I was sick of leno and letterman and miss my Carson (yes I am old). But I will start watching Kimmel because this is brilliant. Love it.

'NIGHTLINE' was funnier! Seriously. Nightline's opening segment made me laugh. Not the jimmy Kimmel Show. Kimmel show with Matt Damon was simply a procession of celebrities, no one displaying any comic talent. only Robin Williams being funny a few moments doesn't rescue this waste of time.
