Ke$ha responds to radio stations pulling 'Die Young'TV networks and movie studios have postponed episodes and movie premieres out of sensitivity for the Newtown school shooting, and radio stations are also being cautious with the songs they play. According to Billboard magazine, some stations have pulled Ke$ha's popular "Die Young" from the airwaves following last Friday's tragedy that claimed the lives of 20 elementary school students.
In the pop/dance song, which is at No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100, Ke$ha sings about making the most of a night out "like we're gonna die young." The program director and morning host for Danbury, Connecticut's WDAQ told Billboard that the song may be about "seizing the moment" but "all people are going to hear right now is those two words in the title." As a result, the station's elected not to play "Die Young," as well as Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks," which has lyrics that also could be seen as insensitive. The pop star herself has tweeted that she stands behind that decision, adding that she questioned the song's lyrics from the beginning. "[I] understand. I had my very own issue with 'die young' for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO," Ke$ha tweeted Tuesday before deleting the remark. She did leave up the apology that followed: "I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy.and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express." |

Mejor redactado imposible. Muchas gracias. Besos!!
Wait. you mean that Ke$ha doesn't even write her own songs? SHOCKING! Oh, that's right, everything she "sings" is auto-tuned.!
are a total waste..
needs to get her roots done.....yuck
Now if they could just get rid of the rest of the Pop music which has plaugue the airwaves since the 1980s.
Well maybe thats harsh but it would be nice to have one channel that would play progressive rock in all markets.
There was one or two on XM radio but they were pushed to the side later one. Thanks for nothing Clearchannel
NEXT TIME DON'T GET CUTE...WE WIN...
Uhhh... Have you guys seen the video? So much more controversial than the stupid lyrics. If Madonna had pulled that in the 80's someone would have shot her.
i never touched the runt...i flirted with him...i was there 20 min a day....did he tell you i slept with him...
i'm going to keeeellll him.....
When did we become so weak and sensitive as a society??? IT IS A SONG PEOPLE!!!!!!! The school shooting was a tragedy, but it's not the first nor will it be the last. We can't continue to cower to our supposed "sensitive" side just because people feelings might get hurt. We used to be a tough country, a leader of the world. Sadly, we've become a weak and fragile country that is bent on emotion and not hurting feelings. So sad.
And while we're at it, let's dig up the old song written by the Who and condemn it because it contains the statement "I hope I die before I get old".
(In this case it would be like digging up the rotting corpse of Cromwell so we can desecrate it for past crimes against the crown.)
Political correctness has been, and continues to be the downfall of art, and ultimately Society/Civilization itself.
I'm sick of that billy joel song about dying young, maybe we should pull that too? Seems counterintuitive to pull a song off of one media source, radio, but leave it on others like any number of internet radio stations or youtube.
Die Young, Stay Pretty – Whoa-Oh-Oh .. Live Fast, 'Cause It Won't Last
she does a piglet move....
and he follows because there is no choice but to follow
to wish someone death
I can't wait for the day she dies...troll heaven!

She is just a T$$L anyway, what F$$L listens to her, o right there are L$Ts of morons out there!
please ilistened to the music and watched the video its only music dont critisize her for it
cowardly lion
Kesha is cool
"I was forced to" just goes to show the degree to which these pop puppets do not actually make music. Songs (typically insipidly horrible, crappy, lowest-common-denominator songs) are prepared for them by the record company, and they serve as the market brand. Dance, monkey, dance.
My recommendation (though admittedly one asked) is to go out and get a beer, and see a band authentically create music.
kesha is low end night shift
get your roots done you look like a drunken pig-
The purpose of this song, like many others, is to help the music industry sell admission to dance clubs, that sell the booze and liquor to the young folk, so that they can listen and dance to whatever the music industry in cranking out. The song is all about influenceing the young mind to spend more money on the weekend, "like you were going to die young".
The liquor and music industry have worked together to get the drunk mind to like the music, spend more money on booze, and to come back for more dancing. Like pawns in a billion dollar empire.
Try writing your own material and you won't have these problems Ke$ha. Music industry has been talentless since the early 90s.
This person has the worst voice ever. How is this popular? Are people morons?
Yes.
Yep.
i agree.
Maybe be a real musician who makes a living writing their own music where you aren't FORCED to sing anything.
Being forced to sing a song you don't like would depend on the recording contract. Very few artist have complete control over song selection. It is a lesson that artists try to correct on a renewed contract....if they get one. With multi year/album deals, it will be a while before Ke$ha can taake that control, if she remains a viable money making artisr that long.
No talent hackery.
I could see pulling "pumped up kicks" but, Die Young? Not that i"m particularly a fan of it but I think pulling that one is going a bit over the top.
Die Young?! That's a Black Sabbath song!
And a kick ass song at that. Long live RJD!
Dammit Dave! Now i want to hear "Lonely is the Word.:
you think so huh?
Good, black sabbaths die young is better
hand what we need right to us....texting into conversations that have nothing to do with you, responding to emails that have nothing to do with you are under investigation–bugging...best of luck to you.

please. we'll see you soon..
This is what happens when you don't write your own music.
enjoy the time.
I LOVE her!!! She is such a warrior!! She is literally my life.I don't know what I would do with out her!
Get her album!! It's the BEST!!!!
When I look at her I get this feeling like I have something sticky on me. Like someone poured a soda on me and it dried. She is gross.
But she went off on my girl Rachel Maddow for pronouncing her name wrong. Ain't right 🙂
I still don't know why they keep misspelling this poor girl's name. It's very easy to tell her name is Kedollarsignha but apparently people just can't spell these days.
Yeah, heard it. Should have been pulled before it's release. Garbage tune.
Leave her alone poor Ke$ha has suffered enough and all she has tried to do is bring us pleasure and she has dune it so masterfully! She is Best ever at entertainment and it is not true that she loaded the killers gun for him or that he was listening to her CD when he did the killings or that he sang the lyrics to the song while he was doing this horrorable thing that was dune.
Only the good die Young...Really Billy Joel shame on you! Stop bashing Ke$ha u idiot losers...go back to school and get learned up right.
Thats right gurl u tell um!
Thanks ke$sa Fan #1 for painting an accurate picture of the nimrods that listen to her pointless garbage.
Leave Ke$ha alone? Do you want to make a Youtube video where you pull a blanket over your head and cry about it too?
She had problems with the lyrics because she, like all her ilk do not create anything of their own ... they just say the words others write
Although the beat is catchy, "Pumped Up Kicks" has MUCH more disturbing lyrics that speak DIRECTLY to the tragedy.
First off nobody can "force" you to say what you dont want to say. This girl has a terrible voice and it's annoying as hell. If it wasnt for autotune she wouldnt have much to do. Hang it up already Kesha you suck
no one had any bad intent in writing a song. So pull the song and don't bother her.
OF COURSE there was bad intent in writing this song! Have you seen the video--its Satanic. Wake up.
Ganan, you're dumb.
Ganan, you're a nutcase.
Ke$ha is dumb as a rock
HELLO!
I'd still do her.
me too. its the only thing shes good for.
Replace it with Ferry Corsten's track Live Forever featuring Aruna.
Sherp as bowlin ball! her mama learned her real good!
Forced to? LOL...Next she will say it's just fantasy
Ke$ha is about as attractive as cat puke.
There it is!
At least cat puke serves a purpose.
I've heard the song and I don't see how it could possibly connected to the school shooting tragedy. However, Kesha deserves to have ALL of her songs pulled because her lyrics are insipid and her voice is annoying.
Typical, blame someone else and not those who truly are responsible.. The dead mother and living father who a loud there unstable son to have access to the guns they had. Guns, movies, tv, video games dont killl people STUPID unresponsible people kill..... KESHA its too bad that have to use you as an escape goat and know one has any balls to stand-up for what is right and true.
What's an "escape goat?" Is that a goat that manages to free itself from a straitjacket? It's certainly not a scapegoat...
"a loud"? lol how about "allowed". Get an education. Please.
Kesha fans get a education? Ain't nobody got time for that.
I'm sure that when she wrote the song she was thinking about a terrible school massacre. Its just a song that has been pulled for bad timing. Why blame her for something she could never have predicted.
She is contradicting herself, so she dug her own grave.

And by the way Ke$ha...it's "affect" and not "effect." Come on now...
this what the radio station.
However, Ke$ha's comments contradict what she said in an interview she gave to 95.5 WPLJ in November, in which she took credit for writing the lyrics.
This girl is such a liar. In an interview with a radio station this is what she said about this song.
"I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world ... I wrote and rewrote and rewrote that song ten times," Ke$ha told the radio station.
Talk about misrepresenting yourself!
She is just a slave following orders, it's a shame little girls look up to that.
This is starting to get a little out of hand. Its a song for gods sake. Do they really think that removing it from the radio is going to stop people from listening to it. ITS ENTERTAINMENT!!!
This is as bad as people blaming the maker of the AR assault rifle the guy used. Like its their fault this guy was a crazed lunatic.
The press really need to find something new to write about
It's not about the song contributing to violence, or that the song may inspire someone to commit violence. It's about empathy. It's about someone who's been deeply upset by the Newtown shooting, as many many people have been (although, obviously not you), turning on the radio to hear something that directly reminds them of the event, and then turning the station. Maybe the pain of all those deaths went right by you, but I for one don't want to turn on the radio and hear a song about gunning down school kids right now. Why is that so difficult to understand?
Oh, and Keisha is crap anyway so who cares.
I can't agree with you more. I think that the media needs to stop naming and showing photos of these gunmen. They do it for the fame and if the media left that out their information then maybe we can help with this craziness.
I also agree that it isn't the makers of games, guns and movies however; it is the person responsible. Guns do not go off by themself. What is happening in our schools is tragic and so Heartbreaking when you think of Newtown. I wish I could help them in their pain but I am also a mother of a bullied Child, a daughter of a mother shot to death and I don't like guns.
"The press need to find something else to write about." You mean, other than 20 kids being gunned down less than a week ago? The makers of automatic weapons aren't responsible for how they're used? Really? So, the makers of crack aren't responsible for the addicts? The makers of cyanide gas aren't responsible for when it's used to slaughter a whole village of women and children? If Iran gets a nuclear bomb, it's only the fault of the guy who actually detonates it? Automatic weapons are more closely related to hand grenades and rocket launchers than to pistols and shotguns, and there is absolutely no reason for civilians to have access to these things. None whatsoever.
Btw EVERY artist wether its christian or secular like kesha have to go through these same processes all record companys are usually ran the same way with the exception of the exact wordings of course of theyre contracts since they all have theyre own diff rules. which is why u have seen in the past artists who have fought to get outta those contracts and switch record companys they didin?t like or agree with the fine print in those contracts obvi kesha went along with it anyways. Unlike others. Her choice shes a free woman. She did THAT willingly. And she can say whatever she wants but SHE knows that.
Did you recently learn to speak English?
Wow you are a fu33ing idiot. Go back to school............start in 3rd grade.
Bree. exhale, put down the crack pipe.....then type.
kesha is in a contract with a record company she signed papers basically saying she would sing what was provided and so fourth she may have had to say she contribuited to the music but who nos if she rlly did or not either way im pretty sure being a early yung artist u usually areint even Allowed to write your own music its too much of a risk and when a record company invests n u they check out the music trends and based off that they have music wrote up by there writers and the artist-kesha- may hav gotten to pick the music the way it sounds but not actually the wordss she maybe was confused with her explaination iddk.

I love Christmas and I love all type Christmas songs but this is Worst for me.
Yeah, while we are at it. Let's pull Tim McGraws Live Like Were Dying or the Beatles Live and Let Die. And Billy Joels Only the Good Die Young and ect... This is stupid.
Don't forget that Blondie song "Die Young,Stay Pretty"!
impressive lil ditty there alvarez.
Seriously after ever major event like this certin songs get blacklisted after 9/11 over 20. did some by the likes Elton John and others its a small orice to pay so the families will be able to listen to the radio and won't have to listen to such offensive songs for what just happened you wouldn't play waterfalls at a funeral of somebody that died of aids
Every time i hear her singing i want to poop in her mouth.
I dont care for her music, but why should "artists" lose out on money and/or airtime because of an unrelated incident? What happened to those children was a horrific tragedy to be sure, but why all of a sudden are some songs disrespectful or insensitive that were fine the day before? These people and their songs, however bad they are to begin with, had nothing to do with the events that unfolded. Its really no different than wanting to take innocent citizen's guns because of the actions of the criminals responsible, and in reality an infringment on those "artist's" rights
illuminati guys. she was forced to sing the lyrics. dont be sheeple the music industry is an attempt to poison your mind
This girl needs a thorough steam cleaning.
I want her to run back and forth on stage while I fling turds at her.
what about the new song trouble? "i knew u were trouble when u walked in.....now im lyin on the cold hard ground" Its a hit but sounds more like an abusive relationship vs keshas anthem to live life to the fullest.
All her damn music sounds the same anyways. Can't we just can her stupid songs and find somebody who can actually sing?
Calm down tif..don't be so stif..that's her gif..don't like her rif?..go pop some jif..catch my drif?..any questions, I claim the fif!!!!!!
All her damn music sounds the same anyways. Can't we just can her stupid songs and find somebody who can actually sing?
I'd like to poop on her head.
Don't forget to shampoo it in deep!
I have never cared for this song. My nephew died at 15 in an accident. While I understand what she's trying to say, I still change the station when it comes on. Perhaps people should give more thought when writing.. it's not like it was a great sentiment even before Friday, so really nothing has changed with the song except that now maybe more people have woken up to how ridiculous it is to chant 'we're gonna die young'.
Ke$ha seems a little confused ... And again CNN can you report on more positive Entertainment news. Something to at least put a smile on people's faces admist all the negativity we face on a daily basis?? I'm just saying....
I hated this song from the very beginning. When the song comes on I switch the channel as fast as I can. Some people are dealing with someone young who is dying such as myself and this is the last thing we want to hear.
What this 'radio' of which they speak?
I did a recent blog post on "Die Young" getting pulled, along with a few other examples of songs getting the axe. It's fine that she apologized, even if it clearly wasn't intentional, but the song is still crashing in a big way. http://popgoesthecharts.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/radios-response-songs-pulled-in-the-wake-of-tragedy/
I be a fairy and I be a fruit…I take it in da rear which makes me poot! I pak dat fudge and shlurp da knobs…I polish it up, from rick, steve and bob! I rock dat dude and play with his tool…and when I’m done I clean up my drool! I’m a chubby dude still livin at home…but nightly I pick up guys and polish their chrome!!!
Now if only ALL her songs were banned from radio.
This song came out way before this horrible massacre took place lets focus on the real issues .This is not going to prevent future massacre shootings .
It's not about "preventing" the next massacre, it's about being sensitive to the fact that a mother or father who just lost their 6 year old child doesn't want to hear a song with "die young" in the lyrics. It's called having compassion for your fellow human being.
shes talking about young adults going and partying "like they are gonna die young"! its and expression! the song is not about murder. and the song is not directed toward elementary school children!!!
I want to agree about Kesha's song, but it's not appropriate right now. They should not be playing the song by Foster the People. I understand those who say that music doesn't cause these horrible things, we just need to be respectful toward those babies and teachers who lost their lives.
If she was FORCED to sing those lyrics. Then why hasn't she FORCED herself to withdraw the money from her bank acct that she made off this song.
How was she forced to sing it?
The label puts it in front of her, and she sings or gets sued for breach of contract.
weeks before she said she was "forced" to sing the lyrics to "Die Young," she BRAGGED about penning the song during a radio interview.
The singer appeared on 95.5 WPLJ in New York back in November - weeks before the Newtown massacre - and took full credit for writing the song, saying:
"I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world ... I wrote and rewrote and rewrote that song ten times."

She's a no talent music industry puppet. When they think she's played out, they'll line up another. Kind of like the porn industry.
i would have to say... That some music like hers isnt real music..its jus noise.. Glad to hear noise of a bad song wont be on radio.. She isnt forced to sing that song.. Its jus money talks n to make her money she has to do it..
I felt the same way when I first heard the song which was way before the tragedy at Sandy hook. Sends a bad message. Nice to see some social responsibility in action.
Ke$ha can't lose her add on this at least...Ke$ha has no ass!
She is credited as one of the writers of it. Forced to do it my a$$.
It's "affected", not "effected"
So did I .
are they going to bang billy joel too?
*ban
Im ready to watch banging of Billy Joel. Hell, I'll venture a guess it would be a quite a hit.
I'd bang her til she died young.
She was "FORCED" to sing it?? No, honey, all you saw was all the $$$ you'd make from it. So if you're that against it, then why don't you take the money you made from this song and DONATE to the victims' families of that horrible shooting in CT? Then I just might believe that you are a "serious" artist.
