Anne Hathaway on getting used to her short 'do

For someone who was so nervous to chop off her long locks, Anne Hathaway is really owning her shorter ‘do.

The actress, who cut her hair to play Fantine in Tom Hooper’s “Les Misérables,” told CNN that she just needed time to adjust.

In fact, she said it took her about 30 minutes before she deemed herself brave enough to look in a mirror after her haircut.

“There was a growing out period, about maybe two weeks ago, that I was like, ‘Oh God, what am I going to do?’ But I think I’ve kind of settled into a style that I like at the moment,” Hathaway said. “There is a little bit of a plan for how it’s going to grow.”

When asked whether or not taking the role, which required her to get her haircut and shed 25 pounds, was a difficult decision, Hathaway said it wasn’t - at first.

“I’ve always respected a certain type of actor who really commits to all aspects of her role, but it was … a hard thing to wrap my head around that I was going to have to do,” she said. “Not so much the weight loss … I’m a girl. Lets face it, we think about losing weight all the time.”

See Anne Hathaway in “Les Misérables” when the musical hits theaters on December 25.

We meet Anne Hathaway at Children's Hospital when my young daughter was going thru chemo and had no hair. She was very genuine and down to earth. I hope she remembers that not all can chose whether they want to their hair to be gone.

Anne is very talented and will take the risk of a far fetched acting script to get what she wants. Even if her reputation is at risk...she will take the risk to get what she needs to complete the role. her hair is adorable.

I find her career to be most perplexing. She is a horrible actress. All energy is sucked out of a movie when she appears. No talent at all.

she also could be sloppy and wore a stupid banana clip in her hair all the time..she's better off with short hair.

I like Anne Hathaway. She's not perfect but I think she is honest and it's not that gratuitous attempt at shocking the public that many celebs do. I may not always agree but I respect that. PS I am liking her short hair now. She is working it!

Dang, I've always liked Anne Hathaway very much. Not a fan anymore. "I’m a girl. Lets face it, we think about losing weight all the time.” Has she ever been a pound overweight? I don't want my teenager daughter thinking like that. My view of Ms Hathaway as a good role model evaporated in that one sentence.

The comment about 'thinking about losing weight all the time." - of course she does. She's an actress in Hollywood - where looks count. Do you really think that all of the famous beauties you see on tv/films are naturally skinny and fit? Just like it is nearly impossible for the average woman to look as good as those famous women, it is also difficult for the famous to be that thin. Sure there are probably some naturally thin beauties that eat nothing but hamburgers and fries, but most of the working actresses in Hollywood either working out to lose weight, or working out to maintain weight loss. So yes, she's a girl in Hollywood, so of course she constantly thinks about her weight.

So the best role models are [thin] actresses who don't think about their weight? Or the best role models are beautiful women without flaws? Wouldn't a better role model for body image be an athlete? Couldn't Ms. Hathaway still be a role model for talent? Or maybe a role model from an industry where looks aren't part of the job - like being an astronaut or a writer?
