Big revelations on 'The Walking Dead'

[Editor's Note: This post contains spoilers for the November 25 episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead."]

The long-awaited meeting of Michonne and Rick's group finally took place on Sunday night's episode of "The Walking Dead." Despite the fact that her early exposure to them was somewhat Governor-esque, she spilled the beans about Woodbury.

It could have very well been Michonne's observation of how the group cared for each other - like when Rick reunited with Carol - that convinced her she could trust them enough to tell them about the Governor's town.

Michonne set off with Rick, Daryl and Oscar to Woodbury, running into a herd of walkers along the way. They took shelter in a shack, with an off-his-rocker resident demanding that they leave his property. Michonne showed the group how she handles things by running him through. The man's body was enough distraction for the walkers that they were able to get away.

The four survivors were just outside the walls of Woodbury as the episode came to an end, but even more revelations took place inside the town.

After Merle tortured Glenn with his machete hand and sicced a walker on him, he was still unable to find out where his fellow survivors - as well as his brother - were holed up.

The Governor then interrogated Maggie, offering to drive her to the location of her friends and family. When he refused to let her speak to Glenn, she clammed up.

Then - in probably the most disturbing scene ever, from a series which regularly features violence and gore - the Governor threatened to rape Maggie, pushing her down onto a table. When it became clear she still wouldn't talk, he left.

Merle and the Governor brought the half-naked Maggie to Glenn and threatened them both. Maggie finally gave in and told them about the prison, so they would spare Glenn. The Governor creepily attempted to console Maggie, but as soon as she could, she ran to Glenn.

Later, the Governor questioned Merle as to where his true loyalties would ultimately lie, now that Daryl is with the other camp.

The Governor returned home to console Andrea (which, in light of Maggie, made it even creepier than usual) after she took part in a failed experiment of Milton's to see if walkers retain any memories after they turn. (No surprise: it would appear they don't.)

This was an excellent episode setting the stage for the fall finale, which looks to be a big confrontation between Team Prison and Team Woodbury, with Andrea and Merle caught in the middle.

You have to hand it to the producers: this season the walkers have truly become secondary to the drama between the characters, and that's probably a very good thing for the long term future of this show.

Do you think Andrea and Merle will stick with their sides next week? Now that we're at the halfway point, do you agree that it's been a successful season so far? Share your views on video or post a comment below.

I kept waiting for Michonne to tell them Andrea stayed in Woodbury. She must know whoe these people are. She spent 8 months alone with Andrea. In all that time you'd think Andrea would have talked about the group. As soon as Michonne heard someone address Rick by name she should have said something like, "Andrea told me all about you. I left her in Woodbury." I hope the showrunners, who don't usually make mistakes of logic, don't expect us to believe Michonne knows nothing about Rick's group and the people in it.

I sooo agree! It really agravated me that the producers didn't write in for Michone to tell the prison group about Andrea. I love the show but I was very disappointed on this seemingly lapse of judgement of the writers!!! I also wish that Maggie would have been smarter not to tell about the prison. Really.....she was hearing Glen getting his butt kicked about where are the others and had to know they would come after her next. I'm sorry to say but she should have been better prepared to give a lie like say they where at her old farm instead of give their true location of the prison.

Frustrating how a smart woman like Andrea keeps hooking up with the looney tune psychos. And reading some of the forum comments I now have it spoiled about the baby – *sigh!* – I have not read the graphic novels & that is the thrill of suspense for me. I just hope Daryl doesn't get killed off – particularly by Merle. I know an unpleasant reunion between those 2 (however much a brotherly bond they share) is inevitable and looking forward to it. Daryl is my fav character by far.

Walking Dead is easily my favorite current show on the air; especially since Dexter kind of lost some of it's mojo. I'm also a huge fan of the WD graphic novels; an interesting alternative universe for fans of the TV show (the graphic novels came first, years ago). At any rate, here's hoping the show lasts at least as long as the graphic novels have (and continue to do).

Love the show and I have to agree its not just about the zombies. The decisions they need to make are just crazy... My wife and I often joke about the Actors in the show being some of the worse paid in the business. Could you imagine how the negotiations would go? " I think that my Character is really making a big impact on the show, and I am carrying the scenes. I think it's time to renegotiate my contract." At that point the Director says " We have a script change and next week you will be on the Zombie Menu. It's been great working with you and start cleaning out your trailer." Hahaha.

I don't know what show the writer has been watching but when he writes what a good thing it is that the zombies have become secondary to the drama between the survivors, I call BS. Season three's zombie-rich environment is a huge leap above and beyond seasons one and two, which were full of too much talking dead and not enough walking dead.

I think this season was way better than last years. It seemed faster paced and more interesting. Oh man, I'm really glad they offed Lori the pregnant women, she got old from the get go! I super like Michonne !!!! Very pretty. Yeah, I hope the violence and zombie gore keeps a good pace. It just seemed to me that last year it was the group whining to much amongst themselves , especially that Lori character, and not as much action. Pretty cool show.

It would be more interesting if in the coming confrontation between Rick's group and the Woodbury gang, Merle would have a "blood is thicker than water" moment and end up sacrificing himself to save Daryl's life.

Yea, I'd like to see Merle offer Daryl a brotherly hug and then run his Wolverine claw straight up in to his head for choosing the wrong team. Team Governor is the best team to be on. They keep everyone happy with staged fights, their doctor is good at experiements, and Andrea knows that the alpha male who has good whiskey is the best choice. Rick's team is gone after they run in to the Gov's team.

I know what you're saying, DaNang. However, we're from a western culture that fought for its freedom, and while we may not get it right all the time, still seems like the place every 3rd world countryman tries to flee to. So, in that regard, culturally, we'd rather have freedom than bow to a Governor, government, or rich Labor leader and do our thinking for ourselves. That's why Rick's team is the winning team.

I just don't see how Merle will have any gentle tendencies towards his brother Daryl. He never had any as was stated by Daryl and he's a complete sociopath. He's lost his hand due to Rick and his group. He's been trying to find the group and get revenge on Rick ever since he stole their van in Atlanta. He's sicced a walker on Glenn while tied up. Glenn only survived because he's had to become a fighter over the past 4 to 5 months. You know Merle wants death for all of Rick's group, not just Rick alone. Daryl gets in Merle's way, Daryl's going to meet the sharp end of Merle's right hand. What I want to see is how the Gov will deal with Merle for lying to him about Michonne's death.

Alot of things weren't being said. I'm pretty sure that Samurai girl knew that there was a brother/group connection, and failed to mention Andrea or the brother being involved, or the brother wanting to know about the location of their camp and wanting to be brought there (the source of the showdown that resulted in the two being captured by brother). Seems like without TV of their own, there's a whole lot of opportunity for 'talking' and not a lot of talking going on. I watch this show and while I sometimes like the story development, less the emotional chit chat, I find the writing has more holes in it than I find enjoyable. It's about a 4 out of 10 for me, and in a time (since Lost) when more and more of us are tuning out to shows that manipulate audiences in the absence of quality, I'm tuning out to more and more shows. This one's barely hanging on.

That is because Andrea had been separated when Rick revealed what was said at the CDC. So Andrea is still unaware that they are all infected.

So glad that someone finally realized this. Andrea was firmly in the room when they were looking at the brain scans of test subject 19(Dr Jenner's Wife) as she died and then reanimated. the verbatim quote is as follows:

Synapses are alight throughout the brain. "Experience, memories. Somewhere in all that organic wiring is you. The thing that makes you unique and human," Jenner explains. The display shows the virus attacking the brain – the "first event." The brain goes dark; the body dies. "Everything you were or ever will be – gone," Jenner says.

Jenner fast-forwards to the "second event" — TS-19's resurrection. "It restarts the brain?" Lori asks. "Just the brain-stem," Jenner corrects. "The human part – the you part – that doesn't come back."

Rick didn't tell the group(Andrea had been left for dead) about what the scientist told him about everybody being infected until the very end of season 2. However, it appeared through the Governor's science guy's own experiments that they had already figured it out part of the story. I assume that they don't know that they are all infected because this would then raise major concerns about reproduction within Woodbury. God knows what the Governor's twisted ideas would be on that note. Great villian, however not as sadistic as he is portrayed in the comic by any means, at least not yet.

    I think it's pretty obvious...
it's going to end on a cliffhanger and not tell us anything and keep us hanging. Shame on us for supporting writing antics. I often think its better to not watch and pay the advertisers, and get the season's episodes later on DVD or streaming, so you can watch them contiguously instead of rediculous 40 minute bites, and cliff-hangers that make you forget months later what was even going on. Really makes me tune out, and I'm leaving more of these shows behind than ever.

Continue to be amazed at how addicted I am to this program. I eagerly await every new episode on Sunday evening. Love to watch how all the sup-plots come together at some point and how we find ourselves rooting for or hating the characters. This Sunday should be really interesting as Nucky seeks his revenge and goes after all his enemies. Am always rooting for Richard and hope he ultimately takes out Gillian, who is, by all accounts, “one sick puppy”. Was not surprised to see Van Alden finally lose it and go ballastic on his co-worker at the iron company. Margaret is getting a little reckless and wonder what the future holds once her affair is discovered by Nucky. As for me, I intend to stay tuned and watch the fireworks this Sunday.

I think they are doing really good with this season for the most part. I mean yea it was kinda annoying dragging out the whole “sophia is missing” thing, and the 7th episode is by far the best of the season so far. I see alot of people complaining about “not enough zombie action” Its not just about the zombies i mean yea they’re there, but its also about the people in the situation, and it shows how a zombie apocalypse would effect and change people over time. I kinda like the idea of it leaving the zombies in the background but still knowing they are there puts on the edge. Like honestly i wasnt expecting Sophia to turn up in the barn tonight. Shane flipping his wig? We all knew it would happen eventually. And just to point out something some people think that the people on the farm couldnt possibly be living normally not worrying about keeping watch. If you actually think about it, in a real life theres more people out in the cities, and generally less in the middle of no where. If a zombie outbreak were to happen would you want to be around more people or far out on a farm away from people? less people = less zombies. So yea i wouldnt be too worried about keeping watch constantly.

I think that Lori is an idiot. She isn’t stopping to realize that everything Shane did was for her. I didn’t see anyone else run off to get Lori when she went missing. (Which I still don’t know why she went after Rick in the first place.. it isn’t like it was a boys night out or anything.) Daryl went off on Carol because he feels he did something wrong and Carol understands that. Can’t wait to see how that plays out… (who will get off’ed first Daryl or Carol?!!?) Carl ‘mans up’ when he puts his dad’s hat on!! hmmmm. Andrea has totally turned a new leaf and is kicking butt and taking names. She understands Shane–she understands how he feels about Lori.

Thoroughly enjoying the series (that and Spartacus are my only two “must see” shows this time of year, but season 2 of Game of Thrones is right around the corner). I also enjoy watching Talking Dead afterward.

Very much dislike the character of Lori. Seems that so many of the group’s problems stem from her actions.

I’m glad Shane’s gone and Rick went bad-ass for the last few episodes. I miss Dale even though his annoyed the hell out of me with his moral logic and reasoning (lol).

I’d like to see more focus next season on some of the lesser characters. Maybe some background and how they came to be survivors, who they lost, etc. Specifically thinking of Glen and T-Dog (seriously, can we give the guy a real name?).

Looking forward to new characters, but I agree with some others in the hope that Michonne is not done in an over-the-top way (which is typical of comic books and graphic novels). It may be based off a graphic novel, but the AMC show doesn’t have a comic book feel to is and I like that.

I’ve seen people say this too many times. DO you realize that in a zombie apocalypse there is gonna be drama? probably more drama than in real life. People they care about are dying! All the issues I’ve seen displayed in this show are very realistic to the conditions they are in. THere are still people that that don’t provoke more drama like Daryl, he’s not the smartest you must realize; he just has the best survival skills. He couldn’t sort out their controversy and keep the group together but he does put in great input from his perspective, rick on the other hand has to deal with the drama. He has to show them that they need to work as a team and know they can trust each other. The show needs balance and it has that, without drama we might as well play a zombie video game. Drama is emotion! You can’t have a TV show with out drama, some things may sound weird and not something you’d do but that’s because they aren’t you. Their character development will only makes the action more epic.

However, alot of the dialogue is drippy, soapy, drama for drama's sake. It doesn't add to the story, doesn't add character depth... Boring. In the last episode, Samarai girl is around a while, no TV for anyone to watch, so no reason for people not to talk about things that actually matter. Or along in the trip to rescue the couple, more time to talk about things that matter as they climb in the car. How about the fact that Samarai girl must know the connection between Team Rick and Andrea, or between the two brothers, but that doesn't come out anywhere? "Oh, by the way... it's your brother who took the two back to Team Governor. He was asking about you when he took them." Connect the dots much? We spend too much time on blah blah drama-itis that adds nothing, and too little time on things that matter. Then we have 40 minute story bites before they leave the audience hanging (manipulated) for the next episode that in turn will only tell a snippet before leaving a cliffhanger. Seriously, we can do better, can't we?

At this point, I'd like to see the entire season streamed, so I can watch the whole thing contiguously and not be manipulated, and fast forward a whole lot of "filler" that can go just as easily as the commercials on the DVR recording. Now that would be a nice 3 hour season without the filler. Better yet, I'd like a full season of episodes that aren't 5 minutes story progression and 35 minutes filler and cliffhanger staging.

the last two episodes were great but the finale was awesome!
one thing i want to know is why didnt they take better/bigger vehicles on the hiway? if the suburban was breaking down there was a sweet white caddy sitting right there waiting to be driven away! and thank god nobody has to work on the damn RV anymore.
why wouldnt anyone go scouting to search out better guns, ammo, food. when they were at the CDC there were tanks, hummers, and troop transports sitting around.
how long can two arrows last daryl and his cross bow? i agree with Destiny, its stupid daryl is riding that loud motorcycle since loud noise attracts the walkers.

i love this show but more common sense needs to be thrown in cause if i had to kill zombies to stay alive i would be driving around in a heavy armored vehicle and scrounging for automatic weapons and ammo.

It's been a great season so far. I'm torn between this show and Breaking Bad. Combined they are the best shows on television!

Andrea has issues. I think she is the new Lori. I really dont want to see the episode when the baby is killed. I just know that is going to happen.

I don't think they'll kill of judith. She died with Lori in the comics, shortly after she was born. Since Lori is already dead, I think Judith will stay in the show.
