Ahead of the Curve: Weekly pop culture calendar

Sam Mendes' "Skyfall" has already taken over the international box office, thus far having earned $287 million globally and setting high expectations for its U.S. open this Friday.

If early reviews are any indication, James Bond fans and franchise newbies alike are in for a spectacular ride. The Hollywood Reporter calls "Skyfall" a "beautifully made film ... [that] leaves you wanting the next one to turn up sooner than four years from now."

Entertainment Weekly gave the film an "A" grade, praising it as a "freshly oxygenated entry" in the 50-year-old Bond film series, and a "great, long-lasting jolt of pleasure."
