Winona Ryder on 'Beetlejuice,' aging and that 'Heathers' TV showWith "Heathers" getting an update on Bravo, it's fair if you're also hoping something will soon become of those "Beetlejuice" sequel rumors. But for star Winona Ryder, her anticipation rests on whether director Tim Burton is committed to giving it another go.
"We were talking about it, and it's literally a situation of if something's being written and if it's interesting and good," Ryder, who played Lydia in the 1988 film, told CNN. "I mean, I would obviously do anything for Tim. Anything. And Lydia is actually one of my favorite roles." "Dark Shadows" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" scribe Seth Grahame-Smith is tackling the script, and the writer told Collider.com in March that the expectation's on him to produce a worthy screenplay. "I’ve met with Tim about it, I’ve met with Michael Keaton (who played Beetlejuice) about it," he said at the time. "There’s a lot of goodwill to want to do it from both of those guys; Tim from a producing aspect and Michael from returning to the character. Again, it’s on me." If the stars do align and we all get the sequel we've been waiting for, Ryder's betting that her character Lydia hasn't changed. And judging from her recent appearances on red carpets, neither has 40-year-old Ryder. "Yeah, everyone wondered what happened to baby Jane?" "The Iceman" actress joked before pointing to herself. "That's what happened." Ryder also looks nearly the same as she did when she starred as the teen Veronica in 1988's "Heathers," which is being developed by Bravo as a scripted drama. The contemporary "Heathers" would see Veronica move back to Sherwood as an adult with a teen daughter who now has to face a group of girls called the "Ashleys." Ryder's looking forward to checking it out, but she was curious about one thing ... "Can they swear on that channel? Because I saw that on, like, Comedy Central once and it was like every other word was bleeped out. The language, that movie's brilliant," Ryder said. "And Veronica's very close to my heart. There's a territorial thing just because I love it so much and I love the people involved and it was a real, incredibly special experience...but it's also flattering." |

Winona would be even more beautiful if she gained a little weight.
The people telling her to 'eat a sandwich' are probably jealous fatties. She doesn't look scrawny, she looks perfectly normal.
Put the sammich DOWN.
Love her. Love the concept of a sequel as long as they don't screw it up. Looks like Winny hasn't gained her weight back from that ballet movie, doesn't matter. She's still beautiful.
""Dark Shadows" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" scribe Seth Grahame-Smith is tackling the script"
Gag. So much for my excitement and anticipation.
Oh, well. I'll wait for it to come on Netflix, and watch Wynona Rider's scenes with the sound turned off.
I saw Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. I couldn't believe anyone acted in that film with a straight face. It was as far-fetched as any nightmare I ever had as a 3 year old.
And, does Tim Burton ever comb his hair?
Damn, she's still hot.
Yes, indeed.
Would she eat a sandwich? Because she could stand to eat something. Looks unhealthy.
That is the most tired response in the history of the internet. She looks great. She doesn't need "a sandwich".
Good heavens, go back to school you illiterate hick!
as long winonna sees the "green light"–there will be new and bright memories. remember she specializes in driving
people to the bottle...her "training" is from wall street.
boohoo-he thinks i'm weak...he doesn't like me..i need guards...booo hoo– Lord Almighty...even i was going to vomit on that
one.
I am glad Winona got through her strange phase and makes use of her talent again instead of creating strange news. I always liked her, and I can only agree with the ones that said she gets more beautiful the older she gets.

'Beetlejuice' was very unique when it 1st came out and the quirky songs made it even more enjoyable. However, it's not a movie which lends itself to a sequel like a 'Star Wars' or 'Die Hard' type of film. It was ONE OF A KIND, when it was released...perfect for the times when it was released and was successful. I don't think a sequel can or should be attempted. It would immediately be castoff as an attempt to make money, save careers, revive careers, etc...on top of that some of the main characters from the 1st one aren't alive anymore..and replacements, in these type of movies, usually don't live up to the original character. Note to Tim Burton – Don't do it.
Ummm....save careers?!?! Last time i saw, not ONE of the cast of the original "Beetlejuice" was hurting for anything!! Every single one of the main actors in this movie has had a very long and lasting career. I say BRING IT ON!! With that cast, that director, and an even passable screen play its bound to be good, and hopefully great!!
come on now – lets be honest. She has gotten hotter over the years. Maybe it is because she doesn't look 14 anymore – lol.
I love ice cream.
The only Beetlejuice I like is on the Stern show
And that says sooooo much about you.
I would love to see Keaton play Beetlejuice again! Winona is a great actress, and pretty as ever. Sure, she's had issues (she had a horrible childhood – her parents make Lohan's look like angels), but she pulled it together years ago. I sure will miss Otto, as he's dead, and very dissapointingly, the guy with the red hair (the principal from Ferris Bueller), was arrested years ago on child porn charges. He may have recently died, too. I'd have to look that up, not that it makes any difference. Either way, he's out of the picture...for good. Shame that the most talented performers are often very disturbed people in real life. Fame and happiness don't seem to mix well.
I'm not holding my breath. Tim Burton seems to have lost his ability to make good films. His last few were lousy.
doesn't like me.
as the entire office laughs
and still naked–have a nice day...
What they could do is a Beetlejuice/ Arthur, type thing.
go to bed barbie butt.
racist i have ever met.....FALLEN BUTT
your not talking to humans right now...do you speak to humans during the day.
I love her and that movie, but stop making terrible sequels that nobody wants. Remember how we all loved Caddyshack 2? Or Slapshot 2? Or Ghostbusters 2? Or any other classic they ruined with a sequel? How about the way they ruined Indiana friggn' Jones?
Point made.
And to the guy who said Heathers sucks now but mean girls is still great. You are either 13 years old or an ass clown or both. So now shut up and tell me how awesome Hangover 3 is gonna be...cuz even the original wasn't that good.
Slapshot 1 was a classic? 🙂
Looks like someone took a dump on my kitchen table again.
What is there left to tell about those characters?
Winona said the s-x with johnny depp was amazing and he was no 10 minute man thats for sure
I thought ten minutes was good?
i need more then 10–
winnie is preserving well...she looks great for her age.
Beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice?
i like winnie, the clepto thing is over. lets give her a chance -
oh sorry...i just said that out loud.
Watched Heathers very recently-does not hold up-very slow and boring. Mean Girls is still hilarious though.
is the spitting image of her other when she was a child. amazing.
Is he not home yet–darn–my man has his arms around my waste and we're having fun on the computer together.
what are you doing–lets be true girlfriends tonight.
if i wanted him that much....we'd be in a room right now...sweet apple butt Winnie k?
That tired shoplifter psycho? God knows she needs a paycheck to help supplement her foodstamps and welfare.
i am not reacting this way because i am in love with a drunk...i have a hacker here...and we both know who it is.
your so pathetic–
It’s common knowledge that almost every girl and woman acts out opposite to protect the sensitive areas of the heart; that some do it better than others; that nonetheless, most of them have no problem whatsoever living a subdued live to the Devil.
we adore this actress and we hope she does a great job in this role
is one of the greatest actresses of all time. she has had some problems over the years...she's is basically a crook
you would know about that your one.
i believe she has been nominated for oscars but has never won...she is a fine actress and hopefully will get back into
acting world full time
you will never measure up to wynnie-are you alone again while he's out with the 3>?
i can give you a hint on 1 if you like
Wynnie, I love you. Eat. A. Cheeseburger.
