'Bachelorette' breakup: Emily and Jef are over

Perhaps "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" should start airing a disclaimer: What happens on the show stays on the show, since some relationships don't seem to last once it's over.

It's been rumored that "Bachelorette" Emily Maynard and the guy who won her heart on the ABC series, Jef Holm, have ended their engagement, and she's since confirmed that to People magazine.

"I am sorry to tell you that Jef and I have, indeed, parted ways," Maynard says in a lengthy statement. "I have nothing but respect and love for Jef and his family, but ultimately we are just at different points in our lives."

The decision to separate was "very difficult and heartbreaking," Maynard continued. "As you know, at first I wasn't sure that I should even be 'The Bachelorette,' but I am a hopeless romantic and I do believe in the show. I have no regrets because I did find love and shared an incredible journey with a really special person - and you know what, we tried our best because the love between us was so real."

Holm, who to the dismay of some fans beat out both Sean Lowe (the new "Bachelor") and Arie Luyendyk, Jr., told People that he's "never loved someone so much" in his life, and that he and Maynard remain "great friends."

"What we shared was completely genuine and real and it breaks my heart but we have decided to break up," Holm said. "Everyone wants a salacious story to break, but the truth is we are just two people who fell in love and tried our hardest to make it work. I will always love her."

Interestingly enough, iReporter Chris Morrow spoke with Maynard and Holm on September 26 at the San Diego Film Festival, and at the time, the pair brushed off the gossip. Check it out below:

What do you think? Were you at all surprised by the end of Emily and Jef?

At her core, she's a gold digger and quintessential blonde bimbo. He is not rich. Once the attention and fame wore off, she realized that he is not going to be a sugar daddy for her.

I have to agree with some with others no, First off, Emily doesn't need anyones mioney she is well taken care of by Rick Henderick and her job, She has a grandchild with one of Nascar's biggest owners so no need for that. Second at least she is honest unlike some people.
EVERYONE makes mistakes, including myself, no one is perfect...
I do not watch the shows I watched for awhile on and off, some fairy tales do happend but when you have camera's on you 24/7 it is kind of hard to make a go at anything. Which I know they all were aware of when they signed on for the show, but still your life becomes public interest to rip everyone apart no matter what..

Give me a flipping break. Do "hopeless romantics" negotiate for higher wardrobe budgets and salaries, rumored, than has ever been on the show? Do they (allegedly) text other guys that just happen to be part of the NFL while enjoying bliss of true love? Does the guy that thinks about buying her little girl a marionette in Prague deserve and have environmental causes in Africa deserve better than someone that allegedly tried to buy more time with him, literally? Hell yeah. I hope they learn from this little "recycling" stunt, it doesn't work the second time around better than the first on this show. Not for Brad, nor for Emily,

Why do people watch these shows? These relationships never last. We always end up hearing that they've parted ways. This keeps happening. So viewers, hit the 'off' button and let the sponsors know that you won't watch this crap. Hit them where it hurts – in the pocketbook. Quit watching this crap

And yet, if dying to support ABC, how about becoming a "Shark Tank" fan to watch individuals with roughly 3 minutes to persuade individuals to believe in them, without network influence and hope their dreams that go beyond "wanting to have a house full of babies" or whatever paraphrase as their ultimate dream. Hope she's got a good insurance plan with mental health benefits for the prospective harm to the kid she's already got.

Wow! Break-up rumors inevitably leads to just what happened. Where there is smoke there is fire! I really thought they had a chance....guess not! Maybe both will re-evaluate their priorities and eventually get back together. Since we don't know who broke up with who and WHY, there is no telling with these 2. Maybe we're not meant to know the REAL story. Having said that, why not? Why don't people be honest and just say why? Instead we get the usual we "love each other and always will, we have the utmost respect for one another, we are at different places in our lives blah blah". If that is TRULY the case, tough it out and work it out for heaven's sake. I guess with "celebrities" there are no do over's. Too bad.....

Totally agree. I weep for the future of TV.... How did we get here?... The Bachelor, Jersey Shore, Honey Boo Boo..... These shows are a waste of airtime. Sad thing is there are so many people that love CRAP like this. Makes me shake my head and this is 30 secs of my life I won't get back commenting on Crap... but great point though.

I was so hopeful that they were the real deal. I am shocked. Maybe stupid but I'm shocked. I'd like to know what really happened even though its none of my business. I want to believe Emily would never have allowed him to be so inolved. In Ricki's life if she wasn't in love with Jef. I'm just hoping that one of these couples like Emily and Jef try and make things work like we have to in the real world. Get off the TV and out of magazines. Just work at it. Why. Why Why.

It truly boggles my mind that people care, let alone get involved in shows that really amount to nothing. People such as yourselves talk and act like they are people you genuinely know. It's crazy. The show is crazy. The world has truly gone mad. There are real problems in the world and people weep for these insignificant events. I get that it is escapism but it still boggles my mind that anyone really gives a crap about this stuff.

After her first engagement, she showed up on ~After the final rose~ and was distant after watching what had happened, then she seemed to forget that she was part of if and lo and behold, they The Bachelor and ette series engage her/she showed her colours–little Diva, - seems that is just what she is and both men were ok!

call me naive, but i actually thought these two were in it for the long haul and was sad to hear about their split:-( i guess i was being overly optimistic and am just a hopeless romantic at heart. i really thought they seemed genuinely into each other and like they would do whatever it took to make it last. sigh:-(

I don't like breakups, but knew this was inevitable! The show is so exciting with all the Super Fantastic Dates,
ibut it is unureal, no one has dates like this! When the real World hits them, then it's like letting the air out
of a balloon! Jeff really looked liked Emily's younger brother! Emily is very controlling and wants what she wants!
Good Luck to both of them! If u want to find real love, try real life with real situations!

From the very onset of their engagement, I knew that Jef was in it to promote his brand, given I researched his company online and, as a professional fundraiser myself, I can understand why he thought he could successfully "build it and they will come!" On the other hand, Emily knows where her bread is buttered. Ricki's grandparents have been very supportive, loving and have provided Emily and their granddaughter with more than just the bare necessities of life. A beautiful home, like Emily's, would take any other single parent or couple several years of hard work to achieve, not to mention the furnishings, clothes and social life Emily and Ricki have by staying connected to Ricki's grandparents. I hope both Jef and Emily will face the real world someday soon, and that Emily will re-think her choices for the sake of her daughter's mental well-being. I wouldn't want to Emily, the day Ricki turns 16 and watches the re-runs of the Bachelorette.
