Get a whiff of Brad Pitt's Chanel No. 5 commercialThe one thing "inevitable" about Chanel No. 5's ad campaign starring Brad Pitt was the reaction. The Internet has been enthralled with the 30-second clip starring the actor since the brand rolled out its campaign on Monday, with responses varying from "uncomfortable" to "smoldering" to "nonsensical."
"It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on," Pitt muses in the commercial. "The world turns, and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over. But wherever I go, there you are. My [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGs4CjeJiJQ%5D It's the first time Chanel's opted to use a man to talk about a woman's fragrance, but for the company it was a necessary switch. The president of Chanel Fragrance and Beauty, Andrea d’Avack, told Women's Wear Daily that "to keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view. ... We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume." To that end, the commercial - which was filmed by "Anna Karenina" director Joe Wright - is supposed to make you think Pitt's talking to a woman before you realize he's talking about the 91-year-old scent. (Is anyone else curious if Pitt uses that voice on Angelina, too?) According to WWD, Pitt's thought to have pulled in $7 million for his work. |

I think Brad looks amazing...and he still has that wonderful head of hair!! I think any man would want to buy Chanel after seeing him. And please...He has a family now so his past is so forgotten. Divorce is the popular thing here in the USA anyway, even if you are not a huge star.

This commercial does exactly what it is suppose to do...it get's our attention; even if it's weird...they accomplished what they wanted with using Brad...they got our attn.(well, mine anyway).. 😉
I saw his commercial for Chanel No 5 the other night...it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It certainly doesn't make me want to go buy the perfume, if anything...it turns me off of it. When it comes to men for this commercial someone CLEAN CUT and elegant looking is more suitable...Pitt looks like crap these days.

I wear Chanel, but I think Brad looks dirty and this ad would not convince my husband to buy it for me. I really don't believe the original Ms. Chanel would approve at all, she was such a clean and neat women, No she would not approve of Brad. It really stinks. Roz
This commercial does not represent the perfume....it is a fantasy...and this actor doesn't make it..I love this perfume..but this commercial is an absolute mess..I no longer buy CHanel...you have spoiled the best perfume ever made..

Actors are professional liers..I didnt realize so many people actually know him personally to call him a good man. movie stars show us what they want us to see..and if they are doing something good in the eyes of the public its to cover up the bad we dont see

Chanel 5 is nice – but this ad is PU.
Ad attempts to be deep and insightful. Only achieves silly, though. I've loved and worn Chanel fragrances for 30 years, but this ad would not motivate me to buy it at all.

Brad was great in Moneyball, Jesse James, Bejamin Button, Babel all movies made after his split from the boring one....yes, fatherhood has made him more appealing and congratulations to Angie and the ring he designed for her is indeed gorgeous....

It's odd because he's not convincing at all – we don't know who he's talking to and his long scruffy hair is hardly romantic! Enough said! This is a real mis-step for Brad – everyone on this project could have done much better than this. Because he doesn't come off engaging enough I don't even attach Chanel to this ad....................needs to be re-done.

I could write better copy for Chanel 5 and I'm not working for a high price agency. Sounds like the creator was on LSD, which was the look Brad is sporting when that was a popular drug of choice. I don't know how he said those words without laughing. PLUS – – Chanel products have been classy, classic and elegant. And for their signature fragrance they hire a scuzzy looking Brad Pitt? A cool looking man off the street in a black tux with a martini is more in line with the image of Chanel 5 perfume. Coco must be whirling around and around. Apologies to her.

Handsome man, great actor, original commercial....? Pitt is the most self-promoting, intellectually and socially pretentious being (along side his lifetime partner, Angelina, that is) that has been placed in our media since world wide wrestling.
Commercials with singular persons, a black and white backdrop, brooding and looking away from the camera, mumbling some lofty lines has been done since the 60's.
N.B. Oh, and this is handsome? Maybe he's going for the artsy look but instead got the bumsrush.

It isn't the only commercial that sounds a bit Off...forget 'who' is saying them is the reason there is such a fuss...listen to most ads and they sound similar...nonsensical. Make a bigger fuss over him, god knows why, because he Is Brad Pitt.
Yes, he is a good actor...but is sometimes put down as is wifey...now if it were Pierce Brosnan Doing the Same commercial I doubt we would be seeing such a todo about it...
Brad is most likely laughing during the entire shoot at the ridiculousness of this ad. However, it works because Brad can totally pull off that smirky grin that makes the watcher feel he/she is in on the gag with Brad. The guy could sell anything to anyone because simply put, he is Brad Pitt and there simply is no one cooler on the planet than him.
Brad is such a naught boy to get so many women spun up with just a casual glimpse at a camera that makes us feel he is peering into our very souls. Damn you, Brad. One look at Brad fires my neurotransmitters so rapidly I nearly fall off my bed with the remote dangling over my head. Where are my smelling salts? Where's that damn robe? Where's my lipstick?
I actually love the commercial. it hit the right notes with me, but i agree with whomever said they should have had brad in a tux...like meet joe black!! perhaps there was more meaning in what he said because he was looking like a regular guy!!!

Agree. Never have been a huge Pitt fan, but this commercial ALMOST makes me feel sorry for him . . . so much money changed hands, though, that he clearly chose to think the script was esoteric rather than just plain lame.
Agree also. Though someone of Brad's stature would never agree to say something unless he was OK with it. So not only does he have to take some responsibility for the lousy script but also for his lousy acting. Agee with others that they should have insisted on a more formal attire than that casual outfit he's wearing especially for a iconic brand like Chanel. And based on what I've read over the net and viewed on tv the overwelming response about this commercial has been very negative and he's become a butt of jokes. Wonder how long it will take for Channel to pull this ad? 10, 9, 8, 7, 6...
I think there are men that would have been for this commericial.Brad Pitt always looks in need of a shower and shampoo but then again Chanel might be good in covering up the smell.
