"All of us harbor dark recesses of violence and horror," says Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock in the new trailer for the eponymous film. "I'm just a man hiding in the corner with a camera - watching."
Released on Wednesday, the clip for Sacha Gervasi's drama about the making of Hitchcock's "Psycho" is edited and scored in a way to create a delicious sense of humorous suspense.
But it's not enough to detract from the powerful on-screen duo that is Anthony Hopkins as the legendary filmmaker and Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma Reville.
The two trade witticisms and a tense exchange as Hitchcock struggles to get his movie made with Janet Leigh as its star. Scarlett Johansson fills the fitted dress of Leigh, who inquires of the director how he intended to shoot the shower scene - since, from the waist up, "I'm not exactly boyish."
That line was dropped in the middle of a scene in which Hitchcock says to his wife, "You are intrigued, aren't you? Killing off your leading lady halfway through the movie?" Alma's response: "You shouldn't wait until halfway through. Kill her off after 30 minutes."
Jessica Biel also stars as "Psycho" actress Vera Miles, Michael Stuhlbarg as Lew Wasserman and James D'Arcy as actor Anthony Perkins. "Hitchcock" is expected to open in limited theaters on November 23.
