Lark Voorhies' mom claims actress has bipolar disorder

Earlier this year, "Saved by the Bell" actress Lark Voorhies took fans by surprise with an appearance on Yahoo!'s "The Yo Show" in May.

At the time, "Yo Show" host Michael Yo was focused on finding out what 38-year-old Voorhies, who starred as Lisa Turtle on cult classic "SBTB" from 1989 to 1993, had been up to.

While Voorhies explained that she's been "quite wonderful [and] very busy" with her own company, her mother is giving another update in People magazine's new issue, saying that her daughter has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

People magazine reports that the Yahoo! interview raised speculation that Voorhies was using drugs, claims both the actress and her mother, Tricia, have denied.

"There are things that have traumatized her," Tricia, who shares a home with Voorhies, told People. "I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life."

Voorhies also spoke with People in a series of interviews, during which the publication says Voorhies would stop mid-sentence and stare vacantly, or mumble to herself or others who weren't there.

When asked about her behavior, the actress explained that she has "a strong spiritual sense ... You caught me in moments of pray [sic]."

Calling her mother "over-loving," Voorhies told the publication that she's not sick and is steadily working with her production company, developing new music and writing.

People! She was on "Good Morning Miss Bliss" with Mark-Paul Gosselaar(sp). They both went on to the spinoff better known as "Saved by the bell". In any case I wish her well. Life isn't easy for anyone on the fringe. Labels & diagnosis are subjective a alot of times. Hopefully she will find her own way.

I do not believe she has Bipolar Disorder. Unfortunately, this very difficult and mood controlling disorder has become a catch-all for all illnesses of the mind. I see a woman who may be struggling with a TBI, Schizo affective/ Schizophrenic or even drug abuse. Something is wong, indeed. But for those of us who struggle to maintain as much of a "normal" life with BP1 or 2, please refrain from constant assumption

Personally I think it was good that she let the public know about being bipolar. Because there are people who are ashame to admit they are or they have family members who are. Bipolar can happen to anyone rich, poor, black, and white.

There's nothing shameful or dirty about any kind of depression.

There are a range of treatments that can help people who are suffering from this medical condition.

Exercise and talk therapy can help with the milder cases and more severe cases can improve with medications.

I think this is private matter for her. She may be taking her meds and getting proper counseling and just trying to keep it our of the public eye. I dont think her mom should have said anything. There are rumors about alot of famous people. Leave her alone and let her work it out. It is a serious disorder people..get a life
