Drew Barrymore welcomes baby girl

It’s a girl for Drew Barrymore and husband Will Kopelman.

“We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, born September 26th, healthy, happy and welcomed by the whole family,” the couple said in a statement. “Thank you for respecting our privacy during this most special time in our lives.”

In a recent interview with Hauteliving.com, Barrymore said, “I can’t wait until I have my children.”

“I love the idea that they don’t have to do something that they have no interest in, that they can do something completely opposite if they want to,” she continued. “I will be so surprised if they don’t want to do something involving food or wine or art, but I’ll be OK with it. I just want to build fun, great things for my family.”

The actress, 37, and Kopelman, an art consultant, wed on June 2 at Barrymore’s Montecito, California home, according to People. She wore a custom Chanel gown by Lagerfeld, who said, “She knew what she wanted … and she got it. For someone who is pregnant she looked perfect.”

What do you think of the name Olive? How does it compare to the other celebrity baby names of 2012?

already planning the career of your baby? Honey, you better learn quick. Children are never what we think they should be–they are their own person. Me and my honey are extensive readers and we love to learn, my daughter thinks reading is akin to pouring hot coals on her eyes. Learning for her is torture. She's also an artist, although neither os us have an artistic bone in our bodies. My son is an engineer in the making. Don't try to push your own interests and personality type on your kids. Just let them be whatever they are born to be.

Could have just gone with "Olivia"...then they could use "Olive" as an optional nickname. Gives the kid a bit more leeway with their name later in life.

What a horrible, hurtful thing to say. There are many women who have children in their late 30s and 40s, and frequently are better able to financially provide for their families. There are many very real pros and cons to having children earlier or later in life; I believe "likely candidate for suicide" is all in your imagination.

    • Jay

How silly. Some of the wisest and most genial people I know were raised by parents who were older than mine. Why would that ever drive anyone to suicide? Kids need *loving* parents, not *young* parents, and I have to say that I'm more loving toward my kids now than I was when I was younger (when they were first born) - I was too impatient and self-centered then.

    • geek_mom

Hate to burst your bubble with actual *facts* but, having children younger (before age 25) tends to result in more difficulties for the children as adults. While the likelihood for miscarriage or Down's syndrome is higher for advanced maternal age, healthy children born to older women do not suffer long-term effects, and frequently benefit because the mothers tend to be more educated (i.e. women who completed college or got advanced degrees and got their career going before focusing on starting their families.) If a mother has a child late in life, and then dies soon after, *that* can have a negative psychological impact, but even having a child in your mid-40s, most women are likely to survive to see the graduations and weddings.

Not impressed with the name – it's just so old! As are most of the celebrities' choice of baby names this year. Except for "Maxwell" perhaps...................but most are just plain old-fashioned. What happened to being current and fresh and new................Poor kids, they'll probably want to change their names when they get older.

Say's "Lolly" hope that is not YOUR real name!! What you call "older names" are lot more classy than Maxwell for a girl...Blue Ivy, Moon Unit, Inspektor Pilot! Need I say more??!!. Get a life...it's a name and not that bad.

I dont care much for the name Olive, shouldve been something prettier. It is however alot better than what Tori Spelling McDermott named her 3rd baby...Hattie, thats just awful, just think how much kids will make fun of her name when she goes to school. Parents should definitely think about that when they name their children.
