Reese Witherspoon, Jim Toth welcome son TennesseeHollywood's baby boy boom continues as Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth welcome their newest family member. The actress, 36, gave birth to a son on Thursday, a rep for Witherspoon tells CNN. "Both mom and baby are healthy, and the entire family is thrilled," the rep said.
Witherspoon and Toth named their son Tennessee James. Tennessee joins older siblings Ava, 13, and Deacon, 8, whom Witherspoon had with her ex-husband, Ryan Phillippe. Toth, an entertainment agent, and Witherspoon met "out of the blue" when Toth's drunk friend, who was going through a breakup, tried to make a pass at Witherspoon, the actress recalled in Elle magazine earlier this year. The couple married in March of 2011, and the actress later said how happy she was to have found a man like her new husband. "You know, somebody close to me once said, 'Oh, no man will ever accept your children.' And I just thought it was the most horrifying thing someone has ever said to me in my entire life," she said. "I was determined to find somebody who would make that not true. And I got lucky. I did. I got very lucky, and he's wonderful. And so wonderful with the children. I'm very blessed."

It always seems so unfair to go out and start a second family without considering how it affects your first kids. It's really hard on a child when step and/or half siblings come into the mix. And it's very difficult growing up ith half-siblings who have both parents while you don't.
I work as a child therapist and see first hand how these second families affect the original kids and I have no respect for anyone who puts their desires ahead of what is best for their children.
These blended families even cause trouble in death...there's always someone who feels jaded when it comes to inheritance. My uncle died leaving behind his second family and guess what my cousins from his first marriage got? Nothing, because it all went to his current young wife and kids.
So what are you suggesting? I suppose it's better for the kids if the mother doesn't date until her current kids are out of the house. I did that. It's true that the kids have less stress in their lives. But it's at the cost of the parent being lonely for the years they are raising their kids. I see it all the time. In those years, you let yourself go because you are focused on raising your kids. Then after they move out, you are a decade older, out of touch with the dating scene and bitter from loosing all that time because you had to raise your kids and choose not to date. There are no easy answers here. If I could do it all over again, I would date. I raised a strong independent daughter and she would have been fine with it.
It also seems unfair to ask a parent to give up happiness to avoid *potential* problems down the road. My mother remarried when I was a child and I have a half-brother. We get along great. Life is about change and adjusting to what comes at you. Isolating children from that fact doesn't do them any favors in the long run.
